It could be if you're not commuting far as the seat becomes uncomfortable after a while and the gears are pretty short so you'll be shifting constantly also the gas tank is small I get about 80 miles to a full tank but could probably get more if I'm not trail riding if you wanted to get one of these for that I would go for the klx250
I'm 6'3" and once I get past 60 the wind blast is a bit much for my lanky frame. But 50-55 on this bike is a breeze. It does get hot in stop and go traffic since it's air cooled. I stay out of that kind of traffic as much as possible. Most I've lasted on the stock seat in 1 trip is about 45 min. Definitely could upgrade there. If you're trying to stay in the 250cc range and commute, I'd really look at the CRF 250 Rally. Better range and wind protection, heavier too which is actually a good thing in traffic situations so you don't get blown around. But if you only need to go 20-30 min on a 2 lane road to get to off road riding areas, this KLX 230 is hard to beat at its price point. It will do 70 if you need to, and fairly stable with very little head shake.
