1934 Enric Madriguera - You And The Night And The Music (Tony Sacco, vocal)

From the Rick Colom Collection: Posting the two-sided Madriguera disc of hit tunes from the 1934 Howard Dietz-Arthur Schwartz stage musical “Revenge With Music” (see also “If There Is Someone Lovelier Than You”). The production starred Charles Winninger, Libby Holman and Georges Metaxa, with Libby and Georges performing this song onstage. Torch-singer Holman recorded her own version of “You And The Night And The Music,” also for the Victor label, accompanied by the Richard Himber orchestra.
Interesting note: this was not an entirely new song at the time. Arthur Schwartz had initially married this tune to a set of lyrics by Desmond Carter in late 1933. The song had been called “Tonight” and was heard in the Anna Neagle (UK) film “The Queen’s Affair” (aka “Runaway Queen”).

@@MikeyParks Madriguera's band was unique due to the varied use of accordion as a rhythm and fill-in voice, and a 5-way saxophone section with an organ-like sonority.
The band was not overloaded with strings either - for years Madriguera himself was the only violinist.
