I've been using it this way for a couple months now and have been pretty happy with it. I've considered going back to Premium Connectivity for the satellite maps view, remote Sentry, and reduced stress on my phone. But so far I haven't been bothered enough to do so. One benefit of the Hotspot method is TIDAL streams are all Hi-Fi where they weren't in Premium connectivity.
How has this impacted your phone's battery life? Since it's constantly checking for bluetooth, your phone wouldn't be able to sleep. This may not really matter though, considering the Tesla phone key works kinda like that too.
I haven't noticed an impact when it's running in the background. It definitely kills the battery when the hotspot is on though, so much that the wireless charger in the Tesla doesn't supply enough power to keep the battery charged when the hotspot is on. But that'd be an issue regardless if Automate was running or not.
True, if I had a separate line for this it wouldn't make sense. But hotspot comes with my cell phone plan, so it's no additional cost to use this feature with my regular phone.
@@alexkno11 well coz that app is for android, and to replace tesla connectivity 100% would mean you should have a standalone cellphone unit inside the car, so you can use the tesla app to controll vents ac and other features in tesla app
I appreciate this video. Thank you so much! It actually worked perfectly. Saves me that subscription
This is great, thanks for saving me $10 bucks a month.
great video! great detail at the end also. I would guess a watcher wanted to know would you use it this way or subscribe to premium? I chose premium

It's not 2010 anymore. Most phones have BT always turned on and with at least one connected device, the impact is neglectable.
Doh. Looking forward to an Apple version.
Sorry about that! I should have been more explicit in the video title.
We need a iOS version
iOS is even easier my guy. You have shortcuts app
Hmm, extra line and hotspot on a phone is probably more expensive than the 9.99$ per month or 99$ tesla connectivity
