  • The Ibanez GRX20 amzn.to/2xWSQET in my opinion is the absolute best guitar you can get for under $200. I currently own two of them. A black one I play in my Surf Rock band, and a white one I use for my home recording projects. I share a little bit of info, history, and show some examples of using the guitar.

I bought the black GRX 20L about 20 years ago (lefty) and still have it. Not a guitar player, I play keys. Every once in a while I will pick it up and play it, and it never went out of tune over long periods. Found your review due to my interest in getting to play a little more and use in recording real guitars instead of samples on the keys. I am running it through a Boss 1600 digital recorder for the nice Roland effects. Thanks for a nice review of the Ibanez GRX 20.

I appreciate this view. I've played and owned $3K guitars and sold them due to "life" and a desire to just get a better quality acoustic (Martin). Now, I slap myself for trading in my old 1990 Ibanez RG 560. That guitar played like butter and had an amazing sound. I need to get another electric soon, and your review has me thinking I need to go out and pick one of these up. Thanks!

I don't have much time now, so I will come back later and follow up on this. Briefly, I have been enduring some extreme hardships recently and through this misfortune I lost all of my electric guitars to pawn shops including my Ibanez S series with the Z tremelo thing. I'll come back later to follow up but I would never buy an Ibanez that did not include one of their awesome lockdown systems and also mine featured a single coil in the middle position which was nice when I wanted to juice it up and add a little extra bite to the tone. I will come back in a few days with more on this . . . .

But you sound better than the majority of those wealthy lawyers and doctors with their Suhr guitars, Friedman amps and Strymon pedals. I may need to get this guitar. I love affordable guitars that play great. And in 2020, it’s so easy to find a guitar that doesn’t cost a lot of money and can be gigged with.

You are right, it is an awesome guitar. Ive been playing almost 5 decades, i picked it up and was sold.
Only difference is mine has a five way switch.
Also yes, compared to say a squire, i think the trem stays tuned better due to both the size of the tuning pegs, and the angle of the headstock.
For example low e pitch angle on a squire is way sharper.
Also this cheap guitar has some sustain to it. More than a squire, even unplugged.
    It is my number one.

Hi everyone! I'm about to learn playing e-guitar and right now I'm looking for a good one to start with. As it'll be my first electric guitar, I have no experience with what I should buy. I want a good guitar which I even can play later on when I'll (hopefully) be better :) Now I've got three favorites: Ibanez GRG121DX-WNF, Ibanez GRX20 and Ibanez GRGM21. Which one would you prefer? The GRX20 is the cheapest and I don't have that much money to buy a guitar that's more than 200 Euro. Also, I'd say that I have rather small hands if that's important to know.
Thank you for your answers! :)

Why? GRG170DX has no pickguard, so electronics are installed in rear cavity. Also has 3 pickups - additional middle single coil. 5-way selection for additional tones. Depending on age, it may have different body wood & pickups and could be made in Indonesia (rather than China). Sharktooth fret markers look cool. IMO a better guitar. Both guitars are based on the RG Series, hence the similar look.

I’m wondering what your opinion would be on switching over to one of these guitars if my intention is to play Rock. And when I think of rock I think of bands like Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, and AC/DC

Struggling between grx20,grx40 and grg170dx....I love Jpop and metals, but sometimes I enjoy some clear sound too, it’s sooo hard to make the decision

I think any of them is a fine choice. Just get whichever one calls out to you the most.

Too bad it doesn't ship to my country, i really need a "cheap" Guitar

Where are you located? Surprising Ibanez doesn't ship there. Maybe not though amazon, but seems like somewhere would have them. If not Ibanez, did you look into Epiphone?

@@demonicsweaters I sadly live in Morocco it's in the north of Africa so it's not surprising that it won't ship there. I also checked fender and they don't ship too, but I've never thought about an Epiphone

Brother I'm confused between Jackson js12 & ibanez GRX20 . Which one will be good ?

    • @demonicsweaters
      @demonicsweaters  5 лет назад +1

Both Jackson and Ibanez make fine entry level guitars. I think the Jacksons have higher output pickups though. So if you're mainly looking for a metal/distorted sound, the Jackson may be better, but if you want a more rounded guitar that can play all styles I'd go with the Ibanez.

I actually have a Jackson now too, but it's the RR Minion. I love it, but like I said, the pickups are very high output so not so great for clean tones, but distorted it sounds killer.
