I think they take it a little too far with this show. Like the scene is already messed up enough with him forcing her to commit suicide that there was absolutely no need to show all the gore and blood when she hit the ground. People that make scenes like this that are already super intense and then show the gore anyways when there was absolutely no need are just sick people that get some enjoyment out of shit like this. The scene conveyed how evil he was perfectly before It ever even got to that part.

While Antony Starr deserves the usual praise for playing such a psychotic metahuman to the hilt, honourable mention to Nia Roam for her performance as well, especially the way she expressed true terror when she realized Homelander was going to make her do what she originally planned to do yet didn't want to at the end.
fun fact: the "only man in the sky is me" line is taken directly from the comics, and in a similar-ish fashion to how it was used in the show, minus the suicide part in the comics, homelander carried up a car with a family into the sky, and then began to spiel off how much of a scam religion was, due to the family being christians, and finishes his monologue with "the only man in the sky is me" before dropping the car and the family to their deaths.

But NOT ONCE have we ever seen anyone offer him a shred of sympathy, or compassion. Chelsea had the perfect opportunity to ask him if he wanted a hug as he poured his heart out. But she just stood there silently! I've done a lot of studying into gods of ancient mythology, and there are a number of source material scriptures that suggest that SOME of them were so chaotic because they had a child-like state of mind, often acting erratic and irrational due to no sense of emotional self control! Homelander is literally the perfect representation of that! He embodies a child throwing massive temper tantrums because his childhood was robbed from him. He seeks the attention in his adult life that he never got as a kid. How many lives could've been saved, just by properly caring for his?
I haven't properly watched this series but this scene has a fan base of it's own, and I'm part of it. Homelander is both disturbing and relatable. Truth be told, what he did here doesn't take a villain or hero w superpowers. Pushing ppl to their worst is smth we all do everyday. But not everyone has the balls to rock it proudly like Homelander does here, stellar performance from Starr!
It's not about having balls. I'd say it takes "balls" (or just courage in general, since half of all people don't have balls, but it seems everyone forgets that) to actually be good. To be truly good. Not "nice"; but good. To actually go out of your way to do the right thing, even when it's easier to be awful or impartial, and let the corruption and abuse continue. Although, I guess what Homelander is doing is a little different; he's murdering someone. Most people wouldn't have the stomach to do something like that, especially to an innocent person who's simply suffering from depression or mental illness. But Homelander being able to and wanting to do that, is not commendable, nor should it be relatable. Or maybe I'm just not edgy enough to understand.
Homelander is quite honestly THE MOST complex character I’ve ever seen but they wrote and directed him perfectly and Antony portrayed him masterfully. I say he’s complex because when he finally snaps, it’s when he starts going on a tangent about how he came to be. You sort of empathize and even sympathize with him. After hearing his deepest and darkest parts of his life you kinda have this feeling like he’s making a turnaround but then he switches gears and forces her to jump even when she doesn’t want to. He turns from being someone you empathize for to someone you see as psychotic and sinister so quickly that your left speechless of how low he can really get even though you’ve seen him do it countless times.
Since she wasn't screaming while falling i suppose she was already dead. He probably shot her right after scene was switched to what's going on with reporters down there. So it got "say something cool to person and kill them right after" vibe.

Love the absolute 180 Homelander is from Superman. Superman talked someone back from a ledge in a comic, so seeing this comparison and how different they are in an identical situation is wild.
Yet even after Chelsea dies Homelander isn’t satisfied or gained anything out of it. It was completely unnecessary and he knew it, he just did it because he’d rather someone else die or suffer instead of acknowledging all the bad that’s happened is because of him.

Edit: Come to think of it, that's why Homelander said all the things he said. He sees the Stormfront video, snaps/breaks, and writes Chelsea off as dead, one way or another. He figured he could say "too much" knowing that it won't matter because Chelsea won't live to speak of it.

I've done a lot of studying into gods of ancient mythology, and there are a number of source material scriptures that suggest that SOME of them were so chaotic because they had a child-like state of mind, often acting erratic and irrational due to no sense of emotional self control! Homelander is literally the perfect representation of that! He embodies a child throwing massive temper tantrums because his childhood was robbed from him. He seeks the attention in his adult life that he never got as a kid. How many lives could've been saved, just by properly caring for his?

I haven't properly watched this series but this scene has a fan base of it's own, and I'm part of it. Homelander is both disturbing and relatable. Truth be told, what he did here doesn't take a villain or hero w superpowers. Pushing ppl to their worst is smth we all do everyday. But not everyone has the balls to rock it proudly like Homelander does here, stellar performance from Starr!

It's not about having balls. I'd say it takes "balls" (or just courage in general, since half of all people don't have balls, but it seems everyone forgets that) to actually be good. To be truly good. Not "nice"; but good. To actually go out of your way to do the right thing, even when it's easier to be awful or impartial, and let the corruption and abuse continue. Although, I guess what Homelander is doing is a little different; he's murdering someone. Most people wouldn't have the stomach to do something like that, especially to an innocent person who's simply suffering from depression or mental illness. But Homelander being able to and wanting to do that, is not commendable, nor should it be relatable. Or maybe I'm just not edgy enough to understand.
Homelander is quite honestly THE MOST complex character I’ve ever seen but they wrote and directed him perfectly and Antony portrayed him masterfully.
I say he’s complex because when he finally snaps, it’s when he starts going on a tangent about how he came to be. You sort of empathize and even sympathize with him. After hearing his deepest and darkest parts of his life you kinda have this feeling like he’s making a turnaround but then he switches gears and forces her to jump even when she doesn’t want to. He turns from being someone you empathize for to someone you see as psychotic and sinister so quickly that your left speechless of how low he can really get even though you’ve seen him do it countless times.
