    If this is your first laser it looks like your ready to roll. I received mine a week ago but just haven't had any luck finding time to get it out of the box, hopefully after new Year's. Thanks for the video.

    Great video James! I just got one of these and am wondering how you’re indexing your art on screen and translating that to positioning your work piece in the frame of the laser etcher. I’m new to lightBurn - I’ve only used EZCAD2 with a 50W fiber laser that projects the outline of the artwork down on the piece for easy positioning/layout. Thx in advance! :)

      @JamesBiggar  Год назад +1

      Hi! Sorry for the late reply. Some engravers, like my infrared Laserpecker, will project an entire outline of the work area for positioning. Others, like the Falcon 2 diode laser, will trace an outline of the work area for positioning after pressing the 'frame' button on the engraver or in the Lightburn software, like at 4:36 in the video. How the outline is shown really depends on the type of engraver that you're using. The Laserpecker can project the entire outline at once because the laser is designed to use a 130mm gap between the module and the workpiece for the focal point, but the Falcon 2 can only project and move a small dot around to outline the work area because the module is placed really close to the workpiece for the focal point.

    Excellent video. Question, what software does it use to perform those jobs?

    Nice one thanks James. I will wait for the additional axis for angled cuts but great to see whats out there. I think this would be relatively easy to upscale so that it could handle 1200 x 2400 sheets.
    Cheers

    Do you have a video about focus? I have this same laser and can not get it to cut 1/4 inch birch more less 1/2 inch anything.

    • @JamesBiggar
      @JamesBiggar  Год назад

      Setting the focal point is explained in the video, using the multi-level focus block provided with the laser. It's a feeler gauge that you set between your workpiece and the bottom of the laser module, with multiple levels that are marked to indicate which level should be used to set the appropriate gap for the work that you want to do and the thickness of your material. As shown in the video, mine cut through 15mm birch ply in one pass using the lowest level on the focus block. Whether or not you're using birch plywood or solid natural birch will absolutely make a difference, though. Birch plywood isn't completely made of birch - the outer veneers are birch, but the inner ply's are usually a softwood which is easier to cut than solid hardwood. Especially particularly dense hardwoods like birch and maple. To my knowledge, only Baltic birch plywood uses solid birch for each ply. Hope that clears things up.

      @@JamesBiggar Thank you, could you please show cleaning the lens. My lens light came on and I have cleaned it 4 times and even changed it out with the new one that came with the laser and the light will not go off. Maybe that is part of my problem with getting it to cut.

    I'm just getting my feet wet with this laser cutter. And I love every bit about it. But creality a single computer fan? I put a 6-in inline duck fan there's no smell, no odors, or anything.

    • @JamesBiggar
      @JamesBiggar  8 месяцев назад

      You mean duct fan, and that would be extreme overkill for one little desktop engraver. I think you might be misunderstanding a few things. A 6" inline duct fan is for boosting airflow in a central home heating system (I'm a carpenter/building contractor and solar thermal technician). Airflow and pressure rating is what matters, which is achieved through motor and blade design (chord, pitch, airfoil, etc), not necessarily just blade size (I also design and build residential and commercial wind turbines, specifically turbine blades using fluid dynamics and blade element momentum theory). I have 3" CPU fans for 200 sq.ft solar furnaces with higher cfm and inH2O (Pa) ratings than a standard 6" inline duct fan. As long as the airflow generated matches what's required to exhaust the smoke, then that's all that's required. The total volume of the Creality enclosure is barely 2 ft^3. The provided fan is sized more than large enough to completely exchange the air inside within seconds. But you could use the biggest fan in the world, it won't stop smoke from smelling like smoke. You still need to exhaust the smoke outside to keep the toxins and smells from penetrating your indoor space, or use a smoke purifier. Again, overkill for a small desktop machine like this, but I use one with my P2.

    Will this cut thicker wood than 15mm if you do more than one pass. Like 3/4 inch maple or oak?

    • @JamesBiggar
      @JamesBiggar  6 месяцев назад +1

      Yes. But at a certain point you'll risk having a fire. Increasing speed and #of passes can help prevent that, but I wouldn't go much thicker than 3/4.

      No, only black. You would need a CO2 laser for clear.
