I feel the same way. I've been set on buying the GM lens, but someone on marketplace is selling the Zeiss in my area for a great price. Made me want to get on here and look at comparisons again because yea, the GM is sharper for sure, but there's just something about the imperfections in the zeiss that makes me want it.
Respect for the great work and effort put into making this video. I personally like the way you let people just watch for a bit then you added your thoughts.
Great to see both lenses in a single shoot. The GM is indeed much sharper and has better flare control but the Zeiss has better bokeh and character. Great Photographer and Model as always
Thank you for the comparison! I had the Zeiss and was really content with it. But then the GM was released and I thought I would achieve an improvement in AF, size and weight. So I sold the Zeiss to get the GM. With the GM I'm content too. But watching my former pictures, that I took with the Zeiss, I guess I regret having switched. And for me your comparison shows that too. I mostly shoot models, and the Zeiss has this 3D pop, that always left me speechless. I prefer the more dreamy look and the flares are welcome for that. For the GM I use a mist filter 1/8 grade (NiSi not Tiffen, the Tiffen seems a bit strong for my taste) and that helps a bit. I do not like to switch back again at the moment. But I would always prefer the Zeiss.
Very nice work you did. Really appreciated the comparison between the two lines for letting us know how the differences they are so that we know which one to choose to have. It would be great if you can show us some sample pictures and videos taken by Sony 35mm f1.8 for how its focusing and colours it can provide for portrait use. Thanks
This is a really solid improvement from the already great Zeiss 35mm F1.4, in almost every area. Zeiss lenses were always famous for color output, but new GM is even better.
Yes, the Zeiss has unique bokeh. And G master is like a perfect all around lens. For the bokeh transition, I prefer the Zeiss. For sharpness, I like gmaster.
I am so glad I bought this lens, which stood on the shelf in the store for a long time as a sample. And in the end I bought it new for half the price. Great and very sharp lens, starting from f/1.4, I have been using it for several months and have not received a single blurry photo yet. And no chromatic aberrations or flare. Just test it in the store for as long as it takes to fully check the lens and buy when you are completely sure that this is what you need. And in general, worry less about all the little things, enjoy the process of shooting!
I love how GM colors look with the model's dress which looks sharp and clean. While ZA doing magic with bokeh, bluing shadows, and blends flare gradient with the background, filling it nicely.
I'd buy Ziess cause I mainly shoot people, it is just sharp enough with good boke and pop, and it is a lot cheaper on the used market. The shaper the lens is the more imperfection on the face people can see, girls won't like it:). And during the editing, we might need to kill the sharpness to give that dreamy skin look anyway...
Hi! Which of the three lenses would you buy yourself now: new sigma 35 1.4 dg dn, sony zeiss 35 1.4 with discount, zeiss batis 2/40?? Or maybe sony fe 35 1.8?? 😬
Do you still think the zeiss is worth buying? I mean, it has weird behaviour not being so sharp in the corners but now the price is a bit less than it was before.. the gm is super expensive where I live.
Yes, still pretty good. Usually portraits, corner sharpness won’t matter much because it will get blur in the corner. Most of the time it will be bokeh.
Excelente comparación.Si bien claramente el gm es mucho mejor, creo que se puede comprar el zeiss por la mitad del valor de lo que cuesta el gm y con eso me parece mejor alternativa.
I am also using a Zeiss 35 lens. I feel that when shooting at apertures 1.4-2.5 it will be soft focus and everything is perfect at an aperture of 2.8-16. Can you tell me if my lens is faulty?
I have the samyang 35mm 1.4 AF I'm not a professional photographer and photography is my strong passion /hobby. Do you think the GM version would be worth the purchase for me?
Thank you very much, for such a detailed comparison. The new lenses is becoming sharper and sharper wide open... Did the manufacturers miss the point? Did we miss the point? I love both. I love what Sony is doing to their new lenses... But i also love the Zeiss sortnes and uncontroled lens flare.
Hi Xing, suppose you were buying your first camera what would you prefer ? Full Frame Panasonic s5 or Aps-c Fujifilm XT-4 And what would you prefer as your first portrait lens for either of those cameras ? Upcoming Panasonic 50mm F1.8 or Fuji 56mm f1.2 I am looking for a hybrid camera system. Would love to hear your input before I get into either of those camera & lens system. And Amazing work as always! :)
@@caliallstaring Hey Xing, Thanks for your quick response. :) Btw Xing, I too love the Fuji colors and profiles, but the S5 is almost the same price as a Fuji X-T4 now so the real question is are Fuji colors really worth passing over the advantages offered by the Full Frame S5?
@@ParikshitBhujbal oh yeah, xt4 was my first choice. but if you want full frame benefits and like the S5 color, i would say go for the full frame S5 then :) and it is better for low light for full frame.
I'm from sacramento ca. The gm is slightly warmer just slightly ,gm controls lens flairs better ,I'm almost certain auto focus works better with gm especially with updates ,the bokeh not super noticeable though Zeiss gets the slight edge when it comes to bokeh but not enough to sway me to the Zeiss over the gm . Both look great but I would get the new gm 24-70 2.8 ii over a prime 24 ,35 ,and 50mm gmaster(50mm would be the prime I'd buy of the 3 if I want the bokeh ) 24-70 gm is one of the best zoom lenses and clients will like the images even though it's only 2.8. if you want the bokeh and that compression get the 85gm 1.4 or the 70-200gm ii(the second version is way better because smaller and lighter ) . I've asked many people their opinions on pictures taken with the first version of the 24-70 2.8 gm to come to this conclusion but Always spend the extra $$$$ and get the second version of these gmaster lenses because of the new motors inside to future proof yourself
Thanks for the video it’s a beautiful comparison By the way I am selling my Sony Zeiss 35mm 1.4 FE, incase anyone will be interested do let me know. Lens is in mint condition
While the GM is sharper and look flawless, there is something magical about the Zeiss.
😊👌🏼✨

thanks for the comparison, not many videos doing these 2 specific lenses side by side
No problem 😊🙏 thanks for watching
You can find a nice refurbished or even used ziess 35mm for $800. Although Gmaster is newer. What did you prefer?
Yes, the Zeiss has unique bokeh. And G master is like a perfect all around lens. For the bokeh transition, I prefer the Zeiss. For sharpness, I like gmaster.
In the scene against the sun I liked the zeiss, the softness and lightness of it

Do you have any video about sony a7iii settings for portraits?

What mode do you have in auto focus?
It should have eye AF for this lens. Make sure eye tracking is on.

really considering selling my zeiss 35mm and getting the G master 35mm….watching this video idk if it’s worth it.
the Zeiss still has unique bokeh and smooth transitions. G master is like a perfect digital modern lens.
哥们这个如果不裁切的话,锐度差距能有20%-30%吗?GM 太贵了,想入个二手的za试试...

why the third part zeiss f1.6?
Oh it might have been accidentally moved, the aperture ring doesn’t have a lock and can be easily moved
