  • In this video I upgrade the Alternator, Wiring and Serpentine Belt on my Ford Excursion. After a week of breaking down almost every day due to batteries being drained, I tracked down the culprit and with the help of ficmrepair.com got the Excursion back and running better than ever. A really easy project and will allow for more upgrades in the future. Thanks for watching.

    Just ordered a this kit, the 230V Leece Neville alternator, two 950 CC AGM batteries, and a 6-phase 48-volt FICM from Bullet Proof Diesel. A lot of money but it is what it is; I don't like to buy twice. Still cheaper than a new truck.

    Another important thing to discuss over these anemic alternators on these trucks sooner or later it will kill your ficm I'm replacing mine now and upgraded to a 240 amp mechman good video

    Leave the stator off. Had two 05 f250s and both pulled trailers with no issues.

    Yeah the stock 110A unit sucks so bad. My excursion was struggling with lights on and the front/rear blowers on. Hitting 12.6-12.8V. I did a pulley upgrade to help it at idle. Ford screwed the pooch on this excursion. 140A Bosch unit helps. 180 even better. Feel your pain.

    This is really good to find out about...I wonder if they same cap alternator is on the V10 excursions like I have

    • @EpicCars

      Not sure, but I would bet both alternators are the same. I love the new one, it is working flawlessly and look forward to adding more lights and such to test out its capability. Thanks for watching.

    I'm pretty sure you don't have to remove the shroud( etc)to put the belt on. All you have to do is lock the tensioner. Cut the belt. And reroute the new belt. It literally takes 2 minutes .

    came across this while doing my own wiring upgrade i do believe u have the drivers negatives wrong the longer wire should go from the head down to the frame to tie into the ground cable from the battery to the frame the short one probably goes on one of the alternator mounting bolts to the frame u should never bolt 2 cables together like that

    • @EpicCars

      Honestly that is what I had heard on some of the 6.0 forums and even my local Napa guy said the same thing. Although I ordered a larger alternator from ficmrepair.com. and I could not confirm this accusation. Thanks for watching and commenting.

      @@EpicCars 6.0L needs 2 things , and they are good to go
      1.upgraded cables and really good batteries , and a big alt ..power is stupid important to these trucks because of the ficm ( dam huei systems)
      2. Super good oil , I use amsoil and run 10w30..thats fine for alaska , and cold starts are great (20 and below for 9 months )

    you put the ground above the air filter?

    • @EpicCars
      @EpicCars  3 года назад

      Yes. I had put everything back together and the ground wire to the block was just a little too short to go to where I wanted it under the air box. Told myself that I was going to go back and correct that. But don’t think I did before it sold. Thanks for watching and commenting.

      @@EpicCars And where is it that goes from the negative of the battery to the engine block?

    • @EpicCars
      @EpicCars  3 года назад

      @@luismviera7982 On the Drivers side. If I remember correctly, on this kit they had me upgrade the ground wires on both batteries on each side. So there is one coming off the drivers side battery going to the block also. Hope that helps.

    I appreciate the effort which you put into your video, however, when you stated the batteries are "in sequence" you lost me. In electrical systems circuits can be in SERIES, or in PARALLEL (which is what your system is). You may want to look into electrical theory, especially when you start adding circuits; wire size, ampacity, fuse locations, etc. And with that 6.0L, you have many more issues to deal with. I have a 2001 7.3L, my son has a 6.0 which he uses commercially, after we spent 3 months rehabbing it with a lot of "BulletProofing". It is now a sweet dependable engine. You may also want to look into a coolant filter otherwise the "casting sand will eventually destroy your coolant pump. I could go on... Much experience with diesels Ret. Fire Service Lt., and some with aircraft engines/systems Private Pilot; in both electrical knowledge is required. One last thing, if you put regular coolant into that system you engine will not last - due to cavitation, you might want to look into it. Best wishes, and good luck!
