- Sometimes the latest and greatest devices are a little out of reach and you’re left in a position to either buy a used phone off of a marketplace that you don’t know the history of, or you can take a deep sigh, and use your aging device a little longer before you trade it in for a new device. But there is a great option in-between all that and it’s buying a Certified Renewed device. Like the one provided by today’s sponsor Samsung and their certified renewed program. Let’s talk about it a bit!
Check out their Certified Renewed Program here:

I've been a big fan of buying renewed/refurbished for a few years now. My current Pixel is one, for example. The QA is also better than new, since they're required to check every phone, rather than just a representative sample size like they do for new phones. Buying stuff like brand new phones and cars is just throwing money away.
Had a situation with my last Samsung renewed purchase. My Note 20 (also bought renewed) got dropped and smashed the screen so I decided to pick up a renewed S22 Ultra in March for $666 after taxes (they didn't have any S23 Ultras at the the time). I used it for about a month when the SIM reader died. Sent it in under warranty, same issue popped back up within days, sent it back a second time. They ended up deeming the phone unrepairable and said I was entitled to a replacement device. But then they told me they were out of replacement S22 Ultras and that I would be compensated the price of a new S22 Ultra. It took like a week and a half to actually get my money, they sent $1200. So I bought an S24 Ultra at Best Buy for less than that.
Essentially ended up with a free upgrade because they sold me a lemon.
I am sure the renewed program is great, but I bought the S23+ for $750 on Amazon new during prime day. Unless you want a special color that only Samsung has, I wouldn't call this a deal
128 gb?
@@yelyaleticia 256 gb. I am at 165 currently
Hope this comes to Canada but we'll see.
I looked at an S21 and it’s $200 on Samsung renewed than other refurbished sites
Quick question does anyone know where I can personally be certified renewed thanks!? 😂
My last 5 phones were all used. I've only been slightly bamboozled once.
But it's soooo much cheaper than even refurbished/renewed! (most often 50% cheaper after one year of usage)
This allows me to run nearly new flagships instead of budget phones for basically the same budget.
Same with buying cars, bicycles, other tech....
Used is so underrated!
Sadly the S23 was not on their list last time I wanted to get a phone, but I managed to find one in mint condition for cheaper, so that's fine. Do a waterproof test next time too! I wondered if they take care to make it waterproof again after changing parts of the housing.
My renewed Note 20 remained waterproof for all 4 years I used it, but they may not have replaced the screen.
Makes sense. Good option to have nonetheless.
I am not a big fan of refurbished phones. In theory it could be great, but you usually pay the same or sometimes even more than buying new, if you can wait a few weeks for a good sale. So it's pointless to me, but in other countries it might be different.
I'm sad to see you get kickbacks from Samsung and talk about their products like this.
I've been using Samsung phones for the last 14 years, but the moment you're monetarily incentivized, any credit given from the review is gone.
Also keep in mind, these "genuine component" comments are Samsung's sneaky way of slowly erroding the users want to use local repair shops, and other places that use components that are just as good.
I'm glad they offer these services, but please remember they're not doing it for your benefit
1st!!
A used device has 100% been in the shitter with someone. Why even consider a contaminated phone (cleaning a phone isn’t 100% germ free)?
Just save more and get a new phone
Don’t think anything can be “100%” germ free, phone or otherwise. As for the toilet part. I mean, you’re not wrong, but to be fair, whose phone hasn’t been in the bathroom?
Scammer
How exactly is a certified renewed/refurbished option a scam? It’s a viable option for many with many different manufacturers offering similar offerings.
