Lee Perry bringing his innovation into reggae music with the use of the drum machine, first used on his riddim, *"Chim Cheri"* better known as *"Billie Jean."* This is Bob at his very, very best. The Wailers and Scratch in harmony before their big falling out.
This song was actually recorded in 1975 at the Black Ark with Bob and Scratch collaborating on the lyrics and Perry producing. Lee and Bob surprisingly patched things up after the big blow up in the early seventies. Scratch also produced Punky Reggae Party.
@John-Paul Brennan no they were brothers who grew up together & loved each other deeply, but the business soured things. Peter surprised Bob on stage in 1978 during Get Up Stand Up, and in the documentary Caribbean Nights you can hear Peter say that Bob’s passing was still too painful to talk about. Rest up to The Wailers.
It's beyond possible what sound and vibe Lee Scratch Perry had in his mind. Each and every time when I find something that blows my mind it's his production ❤
I remember hearing this blasting out of Daddy Kool's shop in Berwick Street in the West End of London in 1984 aged 17 years old, I LOVED what I heard, went in & bought the 12 inch Vinyl which I STILL have to this very day.
does this song start like Roots rock reggae ? "hey mister music choice's good to me i can't refuse it etc..." one more time his early years remained a huge influence in his big well known hit, isn't it ?
It's from 1975, in the runup to Rastaman Vibration, and was overdubbed by Scratch at a later date. Often gets mixed up with the early stuff because of poor copyrighting.
@@JuniorRodigan Greetings Junior Rodigan. Thanks for the message. Yes, still heartbreaking to this day....you can see a photo album of the fire after math on my 'Danny Lemon' Facebook page. Album is called 'Storage Fire'. Some sad images of burnt records there- all Black Music, reggae, deep house, jazz...still collecting though. Respect.
One of my favourite bob marley song ‘so jah seh’ from the natty dread album appears to have the same drum machine in use. I wonder if there’s an early version of the song out there?

questo pezzo di marley da vibrazioni di pace
The original tune to Roots rock reegae, I wish this version made it through to the modern Bob era.Gives me chills.
