  • Hi everyone! I just finished my PEDS rotation last week so I just wanted to drop in and share some tips I've picked up along the way. You are constantly learning in the field of medicine. Its very interesting to see how my two PEDS rotations differed in just a few short months. I hope you all enjoy the video!

    I want to be a pediatrician when I’m older but not a pediatric surgeon, when I go to medical school or during the residency program will I still need to preform and learn surgeries?

    Hey, I've been really conflicted lately on whether or not to go to med school after undergrad, mainly because I really want to be the "soccer mom" type of mother that makes the kids lunches, cooks dinner, attends all the games and dance recitals, etc etc and I don't know if that's realistic or feasible with medicine and if it's worth the sacrifice. Can you maybe give me some advice or make a videa about it seeing as you're in residency and have a little one. Thank you so much! And I LOVE your channel!

    • @drjennale
      @drjennale  7 лет назад +5

      +Zain Albastaki There will be little sacrifices. You may not be able to make it every soccer game or dance recital but you will have time to make some. It will be tougher when you're in med school but once you're out in practice you can work as much or as little as you please. I think being a good mom and doctor is possible 💪🏼👩🏻‍⚕️

      +KEZA I think you're totally right. Nursing is also great if you like shift work. 3 - 12 hour shift a week leaves plenty of time for family. I think you just want to decide what it is you want out of your career.

    • @drjennale
      @drjennale  7 лет назад +4

      +Stephen ODea I love family medicine. I made a video explaining everything call "choosing a speciality" I think. Long story short, I went into medicine for continuity of care and there wasn't enough of that in surgery. Also I only really enjoyed doing things like suturing or things that had more finesse.

    Just out of curiosity, as an osteopathic physician the focus is more on healing the body naturally and in a more holistic fashion as opposed to relying on pharmaceutical products and whatnot, if i'm not mistaken. When actually seeing a patient, what would the differentiation be in conversation, procedure and approaches when compared to an MD seeing a patient? I'm pre med and want to eventually go to DO school and people have asked me this and it's difficult for me to form a concrete response. Hope you can help :) thank you!!

    • @drjennale
      @drjennale  7 лет назад +1

      +kaitlyn hanz Osteopathic philosophy is that the body is a healing unit. We still follow nation guidelines when it comes to medications. Simplified example, patient has a rash, MD will prescribe medication or tell patient not to be concerned because most likely rash will go away on its own. A DO may be the same or they may look further to see if there are nutritional factors, emotional, environmental factors, etc that may be causing the rash. Both physicians are correct in their care for the patient. I made a video on the difference between the different between MDs and DOs. It should answer more of your question

    I am going to start med school very soon and I am really scared that I am not going to be strong enough to handle seeing people especially children miserable or in pain. It honestly breaks my heart. It also breaks my heart to see their families feeling so helpless in front of them. Any advice on how to overcome this or handle it better?

    • @drjennale
      @drjennale  7 лет назад +2

    • @drjennale

      +ashley lopez No, I didn't have any trouble getting interviews or obtaining a residency position as a DO. Many of my other classmates matched into surgery, radiology, PMR, anesthesia, EM, etc with no issues. I think it is very old school misconception.
