  • Vilnius Lithuania and Warsaw Poland are cities in Europe that should not be missed. The history, food, art, architecture, and culture pull you in from the cold snowy streets to the cafes and restaurants. The Balkan states hold a special place in history and in this moment hold the line against Russia while others waver and capitulate.

    It's so strange, it looks like you only explored a few streets around the main train station area, which is planned for regeneration in a few years, so is currently a bit run down looking. It seems you missed the most beautiful parts of the Vilnius old down like the castle, cathedral, town hall, and gediminas street which are on the other side of the old town.

    • @FallofftheMap
      @FallofftheMap  Год назад +5

      I was staying right next to the train station so yeah, there’s a fair bit of video from that area. I walked around a lot and got pretty far into the old town. I tend to just wander rather than seek out tourist sites, thus the “fall off the map” channel name. I like walking around without any plan or itinerary and just seeing a place without expectations. I guess you could say I’m an anti-tourist.

    24:39 After the Warsaw Uprising in 1944, German forces destroyed 80-90% of Warsaw's buildings, including museums, art galleries, theaters, churches, parks, and historical buildings such as castles and palaces. They deliberately demolished, burned, or stole an immense part of Warsaw's cultural heritage. After the war, extensive work was put into rebuilding the city according to pre-war plans and historical documents.
