All of us that went to K-mart should be proud because we knew what it was like to go to to K-mart. It was special. Like the Malls were.

K Mart in Austin on Hway 183 was where my son’s first Lego set was purchased! That was 1990 or 1991. The shopping center was mostly vacant stores. It was during a depressed economic time when there were many foreclosed properties and mostly empty shopping strips. K Mart then established its new location in a new store at Hway 183 and Lake Creek Parkway. It was a gorgeous store but it didn’t have the “feel” of the old K Marts. It cannot be replaced. If it existed today, I would be a shopper there.

Shopping at Kmart was considered 'uncool' where I was at in the 80s. Yet everyone low key shopped there.

The Deli’s were so good! And I loved the restaurants too. The Big K’s were a cheaper downgraded version of the original Kmarts. I miss the stores of the 70’s and 80’s!

My memory of our local Kmart was the overwhelming smell of plastic. It was a somewhat sweet but toxic smell. I don’t know what it was, but to this day I’ve never smelled anything like it.

The K Mart in Eastland mall in Harper Woods MI. had two levels, downstairs was toys and hobbies, I loved that store. Both store and mall are gone now.

After years away from my hometown K-Mart was able to shop there one more time before they went out of business in 2022.

The only K-mart I know of now is online. However in my option, Sears was not a good match for K-mart. Sears was a more pricey stores that sold tools washer and dryers ETC. That's fine if you need one, but you don't need one all the time. K-mart was far better as a stand alone store. I liked their automotive center. The ones that sold groceries I really didn't go to.

I don’t understand why the board of directors did not fire Eddie : For his selfish actions ( didn’t cared about the company at all , updated the stores and closing the stores for can profit for him self - real estate )

Before Kmart's decline it was one of our favorite places to shop. It was sad to see them go. The last time we went to Kmart was in south St Louis, Mo county and it was just pitiful.

It was probably infinitely better than ones in North STL County, trust me.

@@D-Fens_1632 I'll take your word for that but the one in So County was more like a second hand store than a Kmart. It was shameful. Actually it was sad.

Kmart was never the best store ever. At least not in my town. If you ever shopped there you had to memorize prices on the shelves because at least half of the items would ring up at higher prices at the register, then had to demand price checks. The management running the store were blatantly scamming us.

Wait! Why aren’t things locked up and behind plexiglass, where you have to call a store attendant to access the shampoo, detergent, and diapers….
    Those can’t be real pictures!
