  • THE TRUTH ABOUT SALTA ARGENTINA: Why everyone is talking about it
In this video we show our time exploring the city of Salta in Argentina. We spent two weeks in total living in this city but in that time we hired two cars and explored the surrounding nature. This video is all about the actual city itself. It’s a big city with a lot to do. We did a lot but as always still wished we could do more!
This is the city to visit if you want to experience a Piña and we highly recommend the one we visited, it was a great experience!

You missed one last big church in Salta, the Iglesia de la Viña, which is similar to the red and yellow one but blue and bigger.
And also, what you have noticed about all towns having a main square in the center is not exclusive to Argentina, it is the typical Spansh colonial layout. The Spanish built all their towns in the American continent with a central square that would be surrounded by the main church and all the important government buildings, and then the town would grow around that.

Foreign credit cards now provide the Dollar Blue rate. Last month we had a two-week holiday in Argentina: BA, Ushuaia, El Calafate, and back to BA. We were informed by our tour guide for the Recoleta Cemetary that Visa pays the blue dollar rate. We had to pay by card to enter the Recoleta Cemetary as they don't accept cash. I used my Visa card and discovered that I was only charged GBP 4.74 entrance fee to the Recoleta Cemetery. I then started to use my Visa card and discovered that I was getting an exchange rate of AR$340 to 1 US$. Which is not too different from the current blue rate of AR$380 to 1 US$. We found lots of vegan restaurants and most other restaurants have at least a vegetarian option. We did not starve during our Argentine holiday! I'm planning a second visit to Argentina in October to check out Cordoba, Mendoza, and Salta as I'm looking for a place to retire in 2026.

We are taking 4-5 years traveling between Mexico and Argentina, in search of our favorite retirement city. We have lived in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Guatemala. Argentina is fun to research but it is hard to narrow down all of the choices. We prefer cool/cold weather but Mendoza and Salta, even with it’s hot summer, is still very high on our list. • @TideKnotTravellers

Great question! If you want to include Patagonia in the tour then around now to March would be the best time as the weather is best and after March some of the hiking trails in Patagonia are closed for safety. It’s hard to say how long in each place without knowing what you like doing but we would say however long you think you need always add on an extra day or two to allow for the South American way out here. Distances are vast leaving you more exhausted than you realise and things just all take a little longer so extra time and patience is needed to plan each part.

You always have to wonder if life was actually the way they are portraying it in modern times or is it a work of fiction. I always steer clear of reenactments no matter what country or what state. But thats just me. I like hanging out with street performers, much more natural and unforced. If you are expected to applaud, it's not for me. But apart from that, Salta looks nice. The problem to visit it is that the lower you have to get is 4.500 meters above see level. Let's say the plateau from where it raises. Must go by 4x4 and experienced drivers cause volcanic rocks can slice a pneumatic like a hot knife through butter.
