This was awesome. Pure keto/ketovore is very inexpensive. "Keto friendly foods and snacks" are the money drainers. I'm happy with the simplicity of whole foods! Awwwww...🧈🍳🤭
Actually, for me keto is cheaper than SAD. I don't buy keto-friendly foods. Since COVID-19 I don't trust any prepared foods that came outside. I do the cooking myself. Also, cooking allows me to control what goes into my food.
I absolutely agree with you Manny. The only way is to buy ingredients (and not pre-packaged things that are anyway full of preservatives) and prepare delicious healthy meals
Chicken thighs (skin on bone in) are great to use for chicken veggie soup - good and filling and comforting as the weather gets cooler. Just skip noodles or dumplings and any starchy veggies. The frozen chopped veggies you used work well for this broth too. 😋. I also pick up pork rinds at Aldi's. A small amount crushed makes a great binder for tuna patties or salmon patties. I can make a giant tuna patty with $1.00 can of tuna from Aldi's. Add one teaspoon mayo, one egg, one thin slice of onion chopped, any other seasoning you wish. Fry in butter and tiny amount of coconut oil to prevent butter burning. Or use bacon grease. After crisping both sides top with shredded cheese and cover off heat till cheese melts. YUM great with a small salad.
I make an avocado dresssing: a whole avocado, squirt of lime juice (or lemon juice,) salt, pepper, maybe a little olive oil. Put it in a blender and add water til its the consistency of a dressing. The other dressing I make is Walnut Oil, Balsamic vinegar, salt, pepper, 1/2 clove crushed garlic, dijon mustard, and pepper. I don't have measurements, I do everything to taste and make it in single batches as I need it when I eat salad. (which should be more often but right now I've eaten so much salad I have choke it down I'm so tired of them.)
Best dressing: start this in your bowl before you put anything else in the bowl. Dijon mustard, balsamic vinegar, EVOO, oregano, salt and pepper. Whisk it up then add in your greens and toss before adding the toppings. It’s good tasting, saves dishes and you always have fresh dressing every time. I’ve shared this procedure with friends and family and they all love it..
This is very similar to my own diet, also configured to be around $5. a day. There are a few differences, very much influenced by me being OMAD as well as Keto. Over the course of a week, I will tend to eat approximately 32 eggs, 6 pounds of chicken, 1 pound of cheese, half a pound of butter, a similar measure of olive oil, roughly two pounds of frozen leafy greens (partial to spinach), and half a pound of sauerkraut. Carbs will come mostly from three or four onions, half a pound of mushrooms, and a pound of sausage. Oh, and a pint of 35% cream for my coffee. I eat substantially more than the ~1400 calories of what the video presented, in excess of 2000 calories, but I spend very little. Part of my trick is that I have a small chest freezer, without which I would have to spend a lot more money. This due to a simple shopping trick. I keep a close watch on my local supermarket specials, checking all of their fliers early every week. When I see something I regularly consume (including non-food items) on a good special, I buy more than I am likely to consume of it before the next time it goes on special. I avail myself of that freezer to store it in bulk. The end result is that virtually everything I buy, I buy at as much as half price! It is perfectly normal to see me come home with 40 pounds of chicken for which I spent a measly $40., or 120 eggs I got for $20..
Thank you so much for the help. I am so scared as I’m just starting out and seems I have to take this almost minute by minute. You both are so encouraging. Thank you.
This is basically the diet I asked you about a few weeks ago, as a single, full-time RVer, who doesn't want to cook! (Didn't hear back from you on my question about my daily food ... maybe because you were thinking this video was coming up soon?) This is a good benchmark for me, as I didn't know if I should skip breakfast. Additionally in my diet, I've been adding Qwest bars for snacks, also nuts, blueberries AND occasionally a couple McDs double cheeseburgers without bread. But I'm thinking this will be cheaper, and maybe healthier ... if I can stay away from the nuts, protein bars ... Oh and peanut butter and an occasional WASA crispbread serving. Thanks!
As for dressing... a friend of mine just posted a recipe using yogurt fresh basil and salt and pepper blended. I make my own kefir and grow my own basil so m going to try it.
Your videos have helped me immensely, Thankyou! Sustainable weight loss, off Metformin x 6 months, HgbA1c down to 6.0 from 7.3(on medication!) Feeling good and never hungry😊
Thank you for sharing all this information! That best part? It’s free! I have learned a lot the last few days watching your videos. You two are awesome. I really enjoy watching. Very pleasant and friendly. I was concerned about the Cholesterol and Keto, but watching and learning. I know what the good fats are and the difference between HDL and LDL. Now getting ready to start is scary. I will miss my “C” words. Cookies, Crackers, Cereal and other things. Exchanging them for Cabbage Cauliflower and Cocaine! OOPS! Kidding...thanks again for sharing.
Chicken thighs have heavy bones in there. Technically, the cost of the meat kind of needs to be adjusted according to waste. If you get organic, you can make homemade bone broth, and that would add value back to your purchase.
I've always said the same thing. It's hard to find boneless chicken thighs with the skin still on, and personally, I don't care if what I get has it or not since there's enough fat in thigh meat to keep someone satiated, but I would never ever buy bone in poultry or pork. I also do not make bone broth, I cannot be bothered, but if someone does, then yeah I can see buying bone in
Thanks so much. It's like you read my mind this morning! I am making my weekly grocery list and I want to keep it affordable but simple too. I am KETO/ fasting 16:8 . I eat between 1200-1300 ca/day and lost 10 lbs in 4 weeks .Feeling good and not hungry. Thanks for your videos, they are very informative.
I think when initially starting Keto, people watch videos and a lot of these highlight exotic foods, sweeteners, etc. Over time, I've realized most/all of that is not necessary. Eat whole foods and pay attention to macros/ingredients. It doesn't have to be expensive, or difficult to shop.
Thanks! I usually buy chicken breast, next shopping trip will be thighs. I mixed Sir Keningston avocado mayo & a whole avocado to use as a dip for meats.:)
My fav salad dressing is a generous squeeze of lemon and a lot of linseed oil, avocado also helps this dressing be creamy. I usually add some tumeric powder as well
Great video! I am a big fan of homemade salad dressings. I have recipes for almost all of them- creamy ones & vinaigrettes. My faves are the ones I can shake in a jar! So easy & once you start, you realize how much better they taste than bottled. (& most of them use the crappy soybean oil) Thank you, 2 Fit Docs!
I use white Balsamic vinegar if I make "Mediterranean" style salad otherwise I mix a little mustard, Lemon,Avocado oil and Erythritol/stevia Or red wine vinegar with Avocado oil again little sweetener Erythritol/stevia I add a few sunflower seeds, a little cheese cubes, a little chicken, bacon pieces or ham whatever the fridge offers and a few strawberries to make it all fancy!
I feed an adult family of 5 for $250 a month. Yes, I'm in the USA. Yes, the whole family is keto/lowcarb. There is no reason why, with menu planning and intelligent buying, that you cannot do this and stay within your budget. I've been doing this for 2 yrs now. My salad dressing is easy...I don't use salads. I don't feel good with salads so I don't eat them. What I do is to cook my broccoli or cauliflower and use a bit of dressing on that. I use lemon juice and olive oil. Save the zest for my fat bomb Lemon cookies.
Would like to hear how you do this, what do your meals look like? I have a family of 5 too I usually spend around $600 monthly and would love to cut it down.
@@MispelledOnPurpose I have it down to a fine science. The big one, is meal planning, not cooking more than will be eaten at one meal, or if I have a lot, planning a second meal using leftovers. I don't use bread I don't buy snacks or soda. We have a generous portion of meat, and a generous portion of veggies. I make one dessert a week. I make a pizza twice a month. There is no grazing allowed (ie no snacking). I eat a small lunch if I'm hungry (my family does too, but usually its only one or two of us who are hungry). Breakfast is coffee & butter. Its frugal, but its not meager. We've all voted that this is how we want to eat. We're all adults so if somebody just has to, they can dig deep in their pocket, and get something else or something more. But, these things do not come out of my food budget. Another thought as well...I cook from scratch, just about nearly everything. If you are not already, I strongly recommend that you begin. There are plenty of RUclips videos that are wonderful to learn Keto/LowCarb cooking.
Thank you both, this is super helpful. I also shared it with my parents in Ireland who have recently started their keto journey. After watching your video my mother tells me that she has reviewed her shopping list ☺️👍
Hey - two fit docs. Your channel is brilliant and extremely helpful. You should design your own 'Two fit Docs' logo/design/brand and promote them on your videos - instead of advertising underarmour clothing. I only say this because your channel is helping so many people and you deserve as much 'credit' as possible - even in the form of marketing. I hope that I haven't caused any offence.
Could you also address vegan keto as well during your discussions? It would be so helpful. At times you mention this but would be extremely useful for a group of us. Thank you!.
I'm a lean 66 year old that has been resistive training for over 42 years. I've been trying to get below 160 lbs. at 5'6". I have about 17% body fat as close as I can tell. I usually fluctuate between 162 and 165 and have been for over 6 months now. I have been eating a lot more fat and a lot less carbs for over 5 days now and I'm actually eating more calories. I am now at 157 lbs. My goal has been 155 for over several years and I'm finally getting closer.
The seed oil content of most commercial salad dressings make them very unhealthy. Please encourage people to make their own healthy dressings. Thanks for your great channels!
Just had a big ole' salad for lunch! Favorite dressing (I make a big jar to have for several days): one part vinegar (I use ACV), 3 parts oil (I use a combo of olive & MCT), chopped green onion, salt/pepper and a bit of mustard to help it emulsify.
If I’m to do low carb with 125 grams of carbs or less should I still eat high Fat and how much? I’m not able to find out the answer to this one question. Maybe you could point me to a video I’ve missed or help elaborate for us low carb not keto folks. Thank you for all you do. Hands down my favorite Doctor’s!
I have a question about calories. The amount of calories in your meals is more or less my daily consumption. I'm active and workout (LISS) almost daily. However, I keep seeing (online) that women need 2000 daily, and I don't quite think that's true. May I know what 1320 cal is good for? E.g. non-active lifestyle, sustenance. (I know that different people/bodies need different amount of energy, but thought to ask anyway.)
As I watched this, I realised that the West has fallen This lovely couple, upholding values of commonsense and prudence, gently sharing a fading wisdom and bravery to the ensuing population who have had it good and now it's gone Without a community cohesion based on a solid foundation of a hope in Jesus, scraping and making do has to be wretched So to counter that... Jesus is, how can I tell you... Oxygen, a hope of a future life beyond this madness, a champion who will defeat evil, a judge of wrongdoers, a Saviour from the inevitable hell we face without Him .
Great video showing how to eat for less. But it is just not enough calories. At 10 calories a pound for a sedentary person, that is enough food for a 130 pound person. Many people need more.
Another great dressing: in your Ninja add fresh basil, lime juice, mayonnaise (I use homemade EVOO) sour cream and sweetener to taste or a splash of O.j. Blend it up adjusting taste as you go with either lime or sweetener. Even though it’s fresh basil it will keep for several days. Storing in the Ninja cup with lid containing the pour spot is a great time and mess saver too. This is a great dressing for Cobb or seafood type salads.
Hello! Can anyone please help me I'm on a cheap keto diet so I cook ground beef and just adding a bar of butter and planning to eat avocado and eggs and drink lots of water also a little bit of broccoli and mushroom am I on the right track? Or am I having too much protein instead of fat? Please help me
Totally different topic but I figure you look at comments on your latest videos first. I know you do test to see what different foods, etc., spike insulin or blood sugars. Have you ever done one on cinnamon? I've searched your videos and I haven't found one. If I could have cinnamon in my coffee without spiking my blood sugar it would be such a world of difference.
So, 1320 calories is supposed to be a full day of eating? seriously? Did you simply decide on the budget first, and then buy as much food as you could afford for that day?
Veggie carbs are healthy carbs!!! Especially if you stick to non starchy veggies. They are packed with fiber and nutrients and provide satiety. Praise God for veggies!
@@moiserodica7965 I absolutely don't count those carbs. Dr. Becky has a list you can download of 100 foods, including veggies that are low carb and beneficial for health and for weight loss. I found it very helpful.
That's not very many calories for a whole day??? That is less than half the calories I eat in a day. I didn't realize KETO was all about starving yourself.
I haven't seen you guys in a few years, and I'm still subscribed. I wanted to know if you believe in keto after 40? Shaun hadsall has the RUclips channel for that and says that ass people over 40 need to have a little bit of carbs like sweet potato or rice and I was just wondering if you believe that it says that are hormones as women are pretty broken up by that age and send get worse as we get older so it balances out our poor moans better and also keeps us from getting thyroid issues. I would like your opinion. If I may.
Unfortunately LynnAnn, a lot of organic is sold for a lot more money, so you lose the cost savings. Like Beckie mentioned, right now in summertime a lot of these things are available at Farmers Markets and grow your own. Since this video was about saving money, that would a way to cut costs. You can grow salad in pots that can sit on a balcony in a apartment building or a sunny window.
rikwen96 I have a garden center in northern WI. We grow all of our veggies organically, many in containers. Wish I could attach photos! Lettuce in hanging baskets. If you buy lettuce packaged, wash and dry thoroughly. Love you videos.
that extra ingredient you're speaking of "the cellulose/starch" is there is such negligible amounts that it normally does not present a problem, and in certain recipes where the cheese is needed for structure, that addition is needed....freshly grated off the block will not work. Some brands also use vegetable cellulose which is 100% fine. I am not saying I disagree because I also do not use pre-shredded, but it's not that it's "not good for you..." it's just that there are better options
Would should not allow the perfect to become the enemy of the good. One of my pet peeves is listening to some who advocate the keto diet lifestyle and then tell you that you should only consume grass fed beef and pasture raised chickens and eggs, making those of us who can never afford that feel like we can only do second class keto. I am retired and am under the 100% federal poverty level, depending on food stamps and food pantries for my food. I do the best I can but even $5/day would be pushing it and in the time of this pandemic there are people having trouble just getting enough food to survive much less being keto.
Really? Have you looked at the price of Romaine lately? $2.50 per head Spring Mix is $4 per container...... I figure with dressing my monster salads cost me AT LEAST $5 ! And your dinner is at least $5 too. You must be buying the cheapest quality. Pastured eggs and chicken are way high. Packaged shredded cheese is not healthy. Sorry - if you're dirt poor this is the way to go but I hope you're not encouraging people to buy inferior products.
Always buy block cheese-Make America Grate Again!

Chicken thighs (skin on bone in) are great to use for chicken veggie soup - good and filling and comforting as the weather gets cooler. Just skip noodles or dumplings and any starchy veggies. (I know that different people/bodies need different amount of energy, but thought to ask anyway.)
Perfect! It doesn't have to be expensive or hard to do keto!
I've read that those who eat organic when blood tested had less chemicals when they switch to organic. Do you have any thoughts on organic foods?
Hi. Curious. There have been a lot of recalls on lettuce, salad greens etc due to salmonella outbreaks. What safe steps, are you taking?
We simply rinse it. Never had any problems.
As I watched this, I realised that the West has fallen
This lovely couple, upholding values of commonsense and prudence, gently sharing a fading wisdom and bravery to the ensuing population who have had it good and now it's gone
Without a community cohesion based on a solid foundation of a hope in Jesus, scraping and making do has to be wretched
So to counter that...
Jesus is, how can I tell you...
Oxygen, a hope of a future life beyond this madness, a champion who will defeat evil, a judge of wrongdoers, a Saviour from the inevitable hell we face without Him .
"Hell" is not taught in the Bible. Christ is the saviour of all.
The place of utter darkness and flame where Jesus said there would be weeping and gnashing of teeth… is where????
Can you do a test on Bochasweet and Purecane sweeteners and its impact on glucose level and ketones?
i love you docs.shalom from tel aviv.
What if you can't drink coffee or tea? Any suggestions on other early drinks with the butter and mct?
@2 fit docs @becky gillaspy
Great video! The calories and protein seem kind of low. Who would that meal plan be ideal for?
They are focused on weight loss. Adjust accordingly for your needs. HTH
Some People say fasting is not good as it puts the body in survival mode and it stocks up all the food as fat until the next meal. What do you think ?
There's certainly nothing wrong with intermittent fasting. I'm not a big proponent of extended fasting.
So actually $2.50. As this was for 2. Right ? 😊
Hello! Can anyone please help me I'm on a cheap keto diet so I cook ground beef and just adding a bar of butter and planning to eat avocado and eggs and drink lots of water also a little bit of broccoli and mushroom am I on the right track? Or am I having too much protein instead of fat? Please help me
Early stages of CKD and Keto
Totally different topic but I figure you look at comments on your latest videos first. I know you do test to see what different foods, etc., spike insulin or blood sugars. Have you ever done one on cinnamon? I've searched your videos and I haven't found one. If I could have cinnamon in my coffee without spiking my blood sugar it would be such a world of difference.
I've read that cinnamon naturally lowers blood sugar.
Eat. Breakfast and late lunch that's it and my scale is finally moving
The lettuce alone is 2.99 2.50 if you get it on it's way out as a manager's special.
We stand by our video and we didn't use the entire container
When you count carbs, do you count full carbs or net carbs?
We have always advocated for the counting of total carbs.
Unfortunately, I am probably most hungry in the morning, and in spite of having plenty of fat, it’s rare that I feel as if I can go without a meal.
Are they really as happy with each other as they appear? I didn't think that was possible lol
Intermittent fasting is the best money saver
Problem i don't drink coffee or tea....
So, 1320 calories is supposed to be a full day of eating? seriously? Did you simply decide on the budget first, and then buy as much food as you could afford for that day?
What about the carbs in the veggies?
Veggie carbs are healthy carbs!!! Especially if you stick to non starchy veggies. They are packed with fiber and nutrients and provide satiety. Praise God for veggies!
@@outofmyelement932 So you don't count the veggie carbs in the 5%?
@@moiserodica7965 - You still count them but them.
@@moiserodica7965 I absolutely don't count those carbs. Dr. Becky has a list you can download of 100 foods, including veggies that are low carb and beneficial for health and for weight loss. I found it very helpful.
Beware - you have to watch Shredded Cheese. Most shredded cheese has corn-derived additives in it, which will take you out of Ketosis.
I've never had a problem with it through 3 1/2 years of keto
Heavy cream in coffee for breakfast.? Surely thats not heathy. Also, I dont drink coffee and plenty of people. dont...
If I may.
The hormones will be balanced after a while and it will be fine. I am 50 years old woman and full on keto. Feeling great.
Wish that lettuce mix had been organic, ie: Earthbound and not Dole. Don't eat Dole! IMHO
Pre-Shredded cheese has an extra ingredient that is not good for you.
shredding your own cheese tastes so much better
that extra ingredient you're speaking of "the cellulose/starch" is there is such negligible amounts that it normally does not present a problem, and in certain recipes where the cheese is needed for structure, that addition is needed....freshly grated off the block will not work.
That budget is for 2, right?
Didn't say all organic or not in prices, what kind of pan are you cooking that in,...
The daily cost worked out to $4.99 per person.
Oh good! I was gonna ask.
How about vegan like me.
Fasting is free !
Fasting is not eating and eating is a requirement for a keto diet.
