Alejandra Marisa Rodríguez, a 60-year-old Argentine, broke stereotypes as she was crowned Miss Universe for the province of Buenos Aires on Wednesday.
"I also have or had the prejudice of age,' said Rodríguez. "I thought 'how at this age am I going to start doing this?'"
Rodríguez's participation in the pageant this year is a testament to the Miss Universe beauty pageant's commitment to inclusion.
By eliminating the age limit, which had been in place since 1958, the pageant has opened doors for individuals of all ages to showcase their beauty and talent.
Soon, she will compete nationally in Miss Universe Argentina 2024 on May 25.
Alejandra Rodríguez, a lawyer and journalist, said that with her triumph, she is encouraging others "to do projects that they did not dare to complete because they felt old."
