Half right. They’re scary before they pull out the sword, because of H2 bs legendary damage scaling. Pulling out the sword means they can’t kill you with like 5 shots anymore, and they will simply run at the exact same leisurely pace as you which you can exploit by running backwards and shooting. Reach Elites are pretty good with Plasma Rifle rifles, but they absolutely shred everything when they pull out a sword. They run much faster than their Halo 2 counterparts, and have the fastest Melee attacks of the Bungie era Halo games.
Everyone complained about that the HR elites are super deadly, kick you down unfairly fast. Yeah, if you dumb enough to stand still at them after you punched them. Atleas they were killable and did not two shot you unlike those hellspawn monsters worse than any jakal sniper.
This fight needs redone and this time destabilize the halo 2 elites ability to switch to their swords so that way we get actual results on who is better. Cause literally any halo 2 elite with a sword could beat a reach ultra who isn’t equipped with one.

How does it proc? I just finished a playthrougj of Halo 2 legendary but I never once saw them switch weapons like that before

The Ai of the Halo Reach elites seemed very stupid and lazy to me compared to that of Halo 2
