Have you all been seeing this wire twister/stripper all over the place? What are your thoughts on it?
This technic is mostly used in third world countries where they use electrical tape instead of wire nuts
Would this work for wire that is used for paper bales? At my job we bale scrap paper and use wire with a hoop on one end. My issue is tight hand space and looking for something like this to get tighter bales. Think this would work? 🤔

Some of those problems might be fixed putting the drill on the slower speed setting.
I tried it slower but it was actually worse.
A stripped middle wire would make this moot.

Kudos to addressing these issues there’s a ton of the stuff just like it in a 1940’s house built without ground wiring.

I just use Wago lever nuts. It's quick, easy, secure, and has a much higher continuous operating temperature rating than would ever be necessary, so it's really safe, too.
That's what I use. Well worth the investment. Especially when you want to pull your hair out trying to wrap 4+ ground wires into a nut and 1 keeps pulling out. Wago eliminates all that.
Heard. In addition, they don't ruin the wire, so rewiring or doing later work is so much easier.
@@wombleofwimbledon5442 Yeah, I've been using them in my home. You're right, since they just clamp down on the wire and it doesn't require the twisting and bending of the wire while working with it, the wire maintains its integrity.
wagos for the win, fo sho. If you're a novice, trying to get 3 separate 14 or 12 AWG wires wrapped around each other and THEN get a wire nut SECURELY on there... tear out your hair is right
Big mistake I did, but fixed using this. Strip the wire that goes into the Center hole.
Hold the pliers holding the wires directly in contact with the face of the bit. Then drill.
Yes, my thoughts too. In fact, why not strip all the wires? A great twisting tool is always helpful, especially with 3, 4 or 5 wires.

I didn’t. That actually happened on its own. It completely took me off guard. But good try.
The reason why you bend the center while you're over is so that it has bare wire touching the other two stripped wire because the machine does not strip the center wire
Their product page on Amazon shows a clockwise wrap, not counterclockwise. But, great video, thanks as I just saw this in a short and thought it may work, but clearly it's not a great solution.

The center wire coukd be used for grounding using a ground wire nut. The hand tool wing type works perfect, there are two types
It would be in testing to see how it would behave with no center wire, so that the wires just twist around each other, kind of like with pliers. 😊
Right sometimes you have to be smarter than the “tool” 😂

i purchased a similar one of these and the first two times it worked perfectly. From then on it stopped stripping the center conductor which totally ruined the connection. I used a drill and tested slow, fast, left, right, with up to 5 wires all with the same result...failed. Great idea though
put drill in reverse and it works fine if you have the same one I have. Mine looks like this
The only other test I would have tired was strip center wire first then try clockwise. If I was going to get one it would be for 5 wire 12 awg and 5 wire 10 awg. If it is less then that I use my channellock lyman pliers. Because of how it's been tightening wires blue or red wire nuts might not fit.

what if you had some counter clockwise threaded wire nuts?
I don’t believe there is such a thing as a reverse or left handed wire nut. If there is then that would at least help it not untwist the wires.
Besides the obvious inconsistencies in the connection, this seems like it would be very cumbersome doing this to wires inside a box or boxes with short wires. I'll stick with the old tried and true strip and pre-twist then wire nut.
works just fine in tight quarters. Is much easier.
I think the instructions says to use an under 16V drill that’s why you are cutting the wire or insulation not removed properly
The instructions with mine did not specify a specific drill.
With the cost of wire these days, I don’t see myself experimenting with something that might possibly tear the bundle of wires completely apart - even if it’s just part of the learning curve. 😂
I think I’ll stick with the tried and true…

These types of twists are used in other countries where wire nuts are not needed. Which is interesting because their voltage systems are double that of the US.
240VAC still comes to the home, it's why electric dryers/heaters can be used.
Voltage doesn’t matter, it’s the amperage that kills you.
I don't need to strip wires. But i need some things to twist and pigtail. Im a little messy
Doing it the old-fashioned way:
1) Strip your wires, 2 or 3 steps
2) Twist them with pliers
3) Screw on wire nut
With the tool:
1) Line up wires and feed them into tool
2) Run tool
3) Pull insulation from center wire
4) Cut center wire
5) Install wire nut
WTF?!! How does that save time?! Since I use a fancy automatic wire stripper (like the Irwin tool), I can strip all the wires at once as long as I line them up in the jaws. In addition, twisting the wires by hand allows you to twist some of the insulated portion below the nut making a stronger connection that won't pull apart. This is one gimmick I am going to pass on.

I think it is faster but I don't think that the little bit that it is faster is worth what you get.
I tried four wires by hand and it took forever and was a pain. Just a DIY job, and it worked, but would definitely do this over that. Or use Wagos next time.

if its any help i just checked their advertising, it shows them using it clockwise, and at a slower speed
So what I found at a slower speed was it did not strip the wires as well and caused the beginning part to be strained but not stripped. Also, sometimes the middle wire would not get stripped.

Safety wire pliers, Maybe.
A electrician would be able to counter all the flaws you found. In a short period of time he would be able to splice wires together that would pass anyone's (other than you) inspection. An 11 minute video can't produce a Master Level "Drill Powered Wire twister". Think of all the time you could save once you get the hang of the tool.
Then why aren’t any electricians using it? If it was something that could speed up work and still pass inspection or be remotely good, I tend to believe that they would be using it. But they aren’t.
I can’t believe that this would be allowed by code.
The electricians I've watched don't twist the wires before they put the wire nuts on. I was kind of surprised the first time I saw it. This has been over many years and different companies.

Incorrect. It depends on the nut. The winged nuts specify you don’t need to pretwist but when you twist the nut the jacketed portion directly below the nut also needs to twisted too. The old round nut with no wings need to be pretwisted because you can’t get enough torque on it to twist it together.

If you can’t pull it apart before the wire cap then after putting the cap on your good. But I’ll not use it.
Everybody bitching about the way the wires were twisted and I'm over here dying to know what wire stripping attachment that is and where I can buy one
Thanks for the review I agree not very useful. Not a very good mechanical connection. Also don't think it is a very good time saver.

Why did you always put a wire in the center? Did you try it with using only the sides?
I use Wago connectors anyway, so I was just wondering. Wago connectors are faster.
I did it because the instructions always said one went in the center. Didn't like it.

I bought this item and before using it, I noticed in the photos and videos that the center wire wasn't getting much twist, although Adam did a good job testing it by pulling on the center wire in the video. I sent it back without even opening the package. I thought of re-buying it and trying it with only the outside holes. I would be tempted to strip all the wires first because I'm mostly concerned with the wear and tear on my wrists of twisting. Hey Adam, wanna give it another shot??? 😁

this is another chinese product that floods the advertising zone with fake water. However, I used it to wire rebar together so it can be of some use.

There times when you have to twist more than 4 conductors together thing is useless
No matter what you are sayng this tools is really helpful, if you do it by hand it will not be that much better, you tray to find issue that are not really issue, I bet you that you are using it!!
I’m a master electrician. I bought one a few years ago. It’s completely useless. I would never use one on actual electrical work.
Maybe if you were not using the drill full throttle in second speed it would have a chance to works better.

looks like by spinning it backwards it created a right hand thread for the wire nut to tighten on. Not saying it's a good idea or tool but the thought in having the drill run in reverse is probable to make the wires into a righthand thread... Only thing I could see as a reason for having the drill in reverse

Or the twister is not used for the right wire, or the twister only has 2 holes, and even seen 5 holes in online shop.

I'm supposed (planned) to replace all my cables in my old house, and this twister tool is my hope to speed up the process. (Me, not electrician, diy). I'm not buying this tool, yet. And, because of you, I'm considering to use wago, or Krustin terminal, or manual. Wago has a lot of fake product in my country, Krustin I can't decide which size, and manual twist is tiring.
It did come off but I do not recommend using this tool. It’s not consistent and does not do a good job.

Look, you just take that springy thing out of the wire nut and FLIP IT. Then when you run the drill counterclockwise you can put the nut on counterclockwise.... problem solved! How easy is that?
Well except for the 2 hours needed to reverse all those springy things. A'ight back to video surfing.

It also looks like, besides not doing a good job, it always takes longer than just manually twisting wires, which guarantee a solid connection to all wires.
I think that those people who complain that manually twisting takes too long, just don't know how to do it properly. And THAT could explain why so many problems in wiring are found later on.

No. It’s garbage. I’ve tried every technique one can. Faster, slower, reverse. It’s just not reliable for repeatable results and can actually damage the wires.

Too much effort . Waist of time…strip each wire and connect wire nut..faster. X25-30 on new service install…..which is faster…

Two things, the pliers you are using are not heavy duty enough to make a twisted joint. Second always cut the wires at a bit of an angle before installing the wire nut. Your mechanics are somewhat awkward. The tool you displayed is just a joke. Most electricians will tell you the same.
