@Gravivector It made sense. All life would eventually go extinct due to running out of resources, so every once in a while, half the population would need to be wiped. He didn't give any special treatment to any particular group. Kinda fucked up, but it does make sense.

I never thought about that. The scene played out just like it did in the comic but instead of surfer (because disney didn't have the rights to his character yet) it was banner. Now that they have the rights to alot more characters I wish they would've waited on doing infinity war till now.

Honestly, hearing this story makes me absolutely in awe of what they did with the cinematic universe. Taking a story like this and making it so impactful and palatable in that format is a triumph. I’m not sure if they’ll ever be able to top it.

I love the art style from this era of comics. It's so nice to look at. And everything feels so vast and real. Like a panel that shows a city, you can feel like you're looking into a window towards that city.

It's amazing that you see it that way. For me as a new reader, I wish I can enjoy the artstyle of the bronze, silver age but it's just impossible for me. I can only read the modern age artstyle which makes me miss out a lot of good stories.

@Darth Pancake Studios It's also outdated. Thanos came about in the 70s. That period of time had a love affair with death in general in some ways. It was a time when both rebellion and revolution had failed and while the world might not have been on the brink of physical destruction like during the Cuban Missile Crisis, there was this pervasive kind of fascination with death and dying. It's why the 70s had a big uptick in more graphic exploitative films. Obviously people went about and lived their lives and it wasn't all bad, but in no small part an apparent awareness of death was on everyone's minds (probably due to Vietnam).
Look at other comics of the time like Judge Dredd. Thanos has a very Judge Death mentality to him.
In this day in age the focus has shifted. It's not the end of the world, but you can see it from here.
MCU Thanos embodies this. He's just as arrogant, maybe even more so. But if not where he'd put his goal he's almost (key word being almost) got a very good point. In fact he doesn't have a good point, his way of going about it is where the problem arises. His flaw is actually a flaw shared by Superman when he's written competently. Thanos is so sure that he is right. That his plan is ideal that he won't let anyone stop him.
Love Struck Death Thanos doesn't work for a modern audience, and I think they've done an admirable job updating Thanos to fit with the zeitgeist.

Really? A story where Iron man is killed off in a corner of a panel? I know that in comics he is like a B-tier character but still. This does not fit movies that well. 1:26:35 or so, he basically defeats everybody, turns Thor into glass, Cyclops suffocates, others are sent to dinosaur age, he destroys other heroes like flies. It is just a blood bath that just does not fit movie stories.

Rob, I gotta say it, cliched as it is, we _need_ you and everyone who makes and publishes this type of video, the Comics Explanation (no knock on your channel / brand). This is what comes to my mind when I think of highest-quality content.
One of the best videos on the channel.
Didn't watch everything from it but did at least watch a good portion of it and it was right before Infinity War came out and helped me gain more context to that film plus hearing Rob's incredible narration here never ceases to amaze me.
All in all I give this video 6/6 six Infinity gems.
This video was excellent! It has been years since I read the comics, and someone stole my whole comic book collection that I had amassed since I was a kid. Many of the issues were signed by Stan Lee and the total value was around $20,000. It breaks my heart, but this narration of the Infinity Gauntlet has made me happy. Thank you.

this is because you werent paying attention. it is explained that, deep in thanos' heart, he did not actually desire infinite power for he knew he was not worthy of it. He also did not truely love death, for, though he worshiped her, he desired her love the way a person desires an object. he wanted to be her equal as a form of flattery. "look what i do for you, love me", but cared not for what she thought, only that she be made through his actions to desire him. vanity. obsequious even.

In my opinion, the most epic moment during MARVEL's: The Infinity Gauntlet was issue #5, "Astral Conflagration". In 'AC', Uatu observed Thanos wielding the Infinity Gauntlet, bested the Massive Cosmic Entities. Among the MCEs ranks were Eternity, Death, Galactus, Stranger, Kronos, Epoch, Mephisto, Order, Chaos, Love, Hate, Ziran & One Above All.
I kept asking for Adam Warlock and I found your old videos covering it all. Thank you for all you hard work and your contribution to bringing Marvel to those that wouldn't know what is what (me) with out your Marvelous content!

Wish you would have shown more of Wolverines attack, he dug his claws into the chest of thanos, a killing blow… for a moment, as Wolverine was perched up on the body of thanos w claws still inside his chest they are eye to eye and then thanos with a smile and simple thought sends Wolverine toppling over in a helpless clump, bones turned to spongy rubber… also earlier on Wolvie n Hulk were sitting down on that structure Thanos had build, they were talking to eachother about how they were both Monsters, a rare sight to see them getting along 😂

Hey there! I appreciate you taking the time to narrate the entire gauntlet story. I came to this because I had heard that the narrative we were given from Hollywood in the marvel movies was not the entire story and the movies left out a vital piece as to why Thanos was doing everything to begin with. After understanding the why I completely came under bafflement as to why they chose to remove such an integral piece of the story. Again, thanks so much for narrating this. I am only 40 minutes into the story that you are presenting and I am enjoying it immensely!

This video is what got me back into comics. I read 20 issues of the Ultimate Spider-Man 20 years ago but that's it. At 31:30 , you mentioned that Odin actually hadn't lost an eye, he was wearing an eye patch for ceremonial reasons. I thought he gave the eye to the Well of Mirmir (might have spelled that wrong) for insight/wisdom) and Thor visited it to learn about his past incarnations

Thank you so much for these full stories. I always collected comics growing up, but never really read them. It's so nice being able to learn and know so much about each event in Marvel's and DC's history.
I usually drive about 500 miles to and from my family every other weekend and listening to these on my trips really helps pass the time too.
