As expressive people, Italians have no problem showing you how they feel using their hands. Having grown up with an Italian mother and family as well as travelled around Italy for a month, I have come to understand the importance of understanding Italian hand gestures and want to pass on my knowledge to you...with help from my Nonna

I don't know why so many italians have got angry after watching this video. I'm italian, and that's so funny! I laughed all video long! Come on, that's not a mockery, it's just a fun video and I can say, as italian, that most of that gestures are actually very used. So slow down, let's all laugh together and be happy.
(New subscriber ;-) )
It is quite humorous. Italy is more than earthquakes and volcanoes.
@@mauriziosirna3626 anche tu ne sei privo, o forse sei solo un poppante permaloso ;)
It misleading and if alot of those gestures don't exist then it is a mockery.
@@mustange550 which ones dont exist?
I'm from naples and yes girl, you got almost everything right😂
Why would God call a city nipples is there mountains there
It’s Naples not nipples....
@@littlechefgacha2446 Its Nepal brother (family guy joke)
But not the covered head. It s an offensive image.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣I am italian and when I read the definitions I started using my hand gestures 🤌🤌🤌🤌BTW well done, you nailed it
I'm Italian and this video is AMAZING! :D I didn't realize we have way more hand gestures than others until now :D
Lol
Interesting video. It's weird because of all the Italian language courses I took there was no mention of Italian gestures. Of course when I got to Italy I had that WTF moment. Honestly I thought people were fighting when I first saw Italians actively communicating because there was so much more energy and contact then I'm use to in mid-western US (are we dead inside?). I think the gestures help a lot because they work like a mini language that (though I've noticed slit variations) most Italians can understand and it will get you buy especially when your language skills don't (my Italian is terrible). This gestures are definitely not used exclusively in Naples, I lived for three years in Lombardia, my husband is Italian and he regularly uses about half of those you showed. Thanks, much love.

This was on the popular page on Instagram so I had to come watch this been half Sicilian and having lived in Sicily many years and been with Sicilian guy !!! OMG it was so funny !!!! And so accurate !! I just love our hand gestures ! I found my self as it was written on the screen is already start doing the hand gesture !!!!
Sophia Anna That's so awesome!!! I'm half Sicilian too. My mom is from Palermo and I did a road trip across Sicily a few years ago and feel in love with it. So beautiful and diverse. So clad you found me through Instagram! Welcome!! I hope you stick around. The family we have here is pretty darn awesome. We are a bunch of travel junkies who love adventure, culture, food and a good laugh. Hope to see more of you on my channel :)
Kristen Sarah im happy to join ! :-) my Dad is from a province of Siracusa ! i go twice a year back to see family and we love it ! i am very blessed to my fluent in italian so although we now live in the uk my 4 year old son speaks both languages !!! :-)
Kristen Sarah And another question did you vlog your road trip in Sicily i looked back on your videos and couldn't find any :-/ ??
I grew up in an Irish-Italian neighborhood in NJ. I forgot about so many of these gestures over the years. Thanks for reminding me of them. Atsa nice!
Crabjuice Which one is your fav?
I loved it Kristen. You captured my grandma perfectly and this was probably 40 years before you were born!
1:39 i always thought this meant "don't do it" or "if i catch you you'll be in trouble"
These gestures are common, especially in Southern Italy. In the present day no Italian woman dress this way anymore ( the last time that I saw a woman with this " outfit " it was in the early 70s ). . Anyway I think that she is very nice and funny and I enjoyed the video.
I had so much fun watching. A great video.
Gezen Adam Thanks so much Gexen. So glad you enjoyed it!
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I am Italian and I love this :) well done.
Lovely. Your facial expressions are great and artistic.
Informative and humorous. Thank you.
Hahaha thank u! Im quite animated ive been told. Glad you enjoyed the video
I noticed so many hand gestures when I was in Italy last year. This video was amazing :)
***** Haha thats awesome! What part of Italy did you explore?
Most of the major points!
Roma, Pisa, Florence, Venice, Milan, etc. :)
***** Usual stereotypes about Italy
Pretty good really enjoyed this.
That was quite amusing. Well Done.
the second one doesn't mean " I'm hungry" but it means that you didn't digested your meal, and it can also mean that you can't tolerate someone.
+Cerise And Fraise sei francese,ti sei risposta da sola :)
oddio anche io all'inizio pensavo si facesse dappertutto
Love it! hahaha! My nonna also does this.
I have learned a lot things. Thank you
Amazing place to visiting broh..
Terrific. Clever and funny.
Solo ora mi rendo conto che questi gesti li facciamo solo noi italiani!!!
you're very nice!!
My grandmother was from Napoli and when I misbehave she would give me some of that Italian Candy. That was the only hand gesture I remember, that was rarely though...
i loved this
Good job !
I am an actor shooting a film as an Italian MaMa this weekend. This helped me a lot.So much fun! Thanks!
Being Italian myself, this is reeeeeeeally accurate! Great video!:)
Brings back a lot of memories and like a lot of countries some parts of Italy a different gesture could mean different things thanks for working on my laugh lines
I'm italian-brazilian and my family and I always "speak with hands" (too)...and the meanings still the same! Culture is something really strong... amazing! The State I live (SP: Sao Paulo) has a HUGE influence of the italian immigrants
Good one!
ahahah, I will send this guide to my Belgian friends, so they will learn more about our way of speaking :)))))))))
I'm going to try most of this when I get to italy.
You have my characters... I will try my best to follow your instructions... I love it.
This was a super cute video. Grazie mille.
very good!
I had a laugh with this. I'm from Argentina, and I have italian grandparents. They never taught me these gestures, but I do them almost everyday!
Very cute!
This is really interesting, i'm from Algeria and i noticed that we share a lot of those same gestures !!
From us, 100% 2nd Gen Italians....We Love it!!
Forever Customs and Performing Arts
Im Italian and my parents come from Sicily and this is not stereotyping. Italians do talk with their hands, my nonna used to do it all the time. My mom still does, and I don't always use these gestures but I do talk with my hands. She isn't saying that all we do is talk with our hands like we don't know how to speak. She is just saying its apart of Italian culture. Its supposed to be funny. I make fun of it all the time. These gestures were developed in small towns in Italy, mostly in the South. Now its just a habit that has been passed down, nothing to do with education. I honestly didn't recognize all of them because different regions have their own gestures. But really funny video, I know that you didn't mean anything mean by it.
I'm Italian, and I can say this video is very accurate.
Giacomanzium Excellent! That's what I like to hear. I'm also Italian :)
Kristen Sarah I meant Italian living in Italy, but that's okay :D good job!
+Giacomanzium
tu non stai bene...
Sekko Veieno Okay.
+Giacomanzium let's say it's nice and quite good..but not that "very accurate"..
Really enjoyed thanks from fella Italian
Thanks for share
Awesome. Loved it. I notice watching this and others vids, that even Italian gestures have slight differences/ dialects in different parts of Italy. Very good to learn.
This was fun, but some of them are basically just from the south of Italy. Others are from all over Italy but the way you show them is the south way, in the north we are less dramatic. Ciao from Milano
hahaha, awesome and I like that Iranian hand painted table cloth hanging behind your back
What about gestures for specific items, especially food. Prosciutto, wine, ham, pizza, spaghetti etc..
This video cleared my thoughts.
perfect and enjoyable...i really admire what u did..we ve seen those gestures many time in movies but never really knew the exact meaning.u deserve more views ..ten times more..ill share it hopefully more people see ur brilliant act
Lol i'm Italian and..you know what? We understand hand gestures but we don't really use them anymore. My grandma uses them sometimes, my parents don't really use them and i never use them. There's a lot of "new hand gestures" that i learned watching your video.
So funny. The scarf adds a lot to the Sicilian painting. 😆
Missed the most typical gesture which goes with a "Ma che cosa fai?"
That sing the pay attention one is not (pay attention) it means you slick or sneaky in doing somethings
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
It's always funny see how foreigners (in your case a canadian-italian girl) manage our handgestures language. ;)
Your version is close enough to the original, well done! it seems like a particular dialect of the original version, sooo funny.
Family version maybe?
(If I may ask) Where are your parents from exactly? Which part of Italy i mean
I'm italian, this made me laugh a lot :') cause it's kinda true XD
I'm Italian... this video is so funny! some of this are not so used anymore... But is true I also use a lot my hands when I talk and I didn't realize it yet! ahah good job! this video is super funny!
nice expressions.... :D good job....!!!
Oh my god, you're confusing, those are Neapolitan gestures not Italian.
+massimo piazza not according to my family and how I grew up. I saw these all the time
+massimo piazza Sinceramente, questi gesti li ho visti fare anche in Lombardia e in altri posti. :)

Helloooo... nice video, yes hand gestures is universal language.
I found so meny similaritys between Italy and India. not only the falgs, even rules braking and same hand gestures also.....yes it's universal language. this is Ram from India, Hyderabad.
Hahaha... I need to show this to my Italian colleagues at the office :P
Monsieur Hallmann - życie we Francji Haha yes please share:) I'm glad you approve :)
I have a lot of Italian friends and this is very accurate...
Imsouchivy Suos hahah great! Now you will be able to impress them with your hand gestures.
Maybe some gestures mean different things in different parts of Italy, but here in Naples some of those gestures don't mean what you said! Great video though, and I'm glad you people try to spread gestures through the world, also because... how do you live without them?
When sei italiano and non condividi tris video
Great video! I just got back from 17 days travelling through Italy, and it would've really helped to of had this video before I went. Would've saved me some confusion! Glad to finally understand some of them.
Briggs Marshall hahah! Where in Italy did you go? Did you hit up Sicily?
No! I wanted to go to Sicily though! Next time! We visited Rome, Naples, Amalfi Coast (stunning), all over Tuscany, and Venice.
That was way more hand gestures than I thought you would come up with haha.
Italian gestures are similar to the ones we use in Argentina.
hahha I loved it! I'm from Spain and we also have many common gestures! But I didn't realize that those gestures aren't international!
1:10 if combined with a disappointed expression, it also means "hey, i have no time to listen, close the speech", usually "stringi".
Yes! I liked you video much.
ciao, ciao!
Sorry per il mio Italiano arrugginito....
Saluti dalla Germania

I don't mean to sound mean, but more than you teaching, it shows how well you have learned. Yet, you're not quite there still. Some are a bit artificial. I realize it takes as little as having the hand too high or too low, or at a wrong angle to mess it up, but I wouldn't take this content 100% as worth learning from. Also, the face expressions are just as crucial and if you do everything in a clownish way it takes a lot away from the gesture. My two bits.
This is some informative kind of video but I am laughing like crazyy...you are so funny with all kind of facial expressions there haha..😂😂
Superb 👌👌👌
Loved this!
I come from North East Italy and we behave differently. It is like coming to USA on holiday and thinking that people from New York and people from Texas are the same.
What is the song?
Delightful!
in iran((persia)) we have a lot hand gestures in common with italian to.
This was hysterical! Love it!
Bella e brava ! Where did you stay in Italy for one month?
Nice ! Very similar to turkish gestures :)
So true!
Brilliant. But I just saw a an italian actresss wave goodbye with an opening closing hand gesture. It was so un- english I was just wondering. Is it an Italian gesture?
Oh some of this gestures is also used in Morroco
the funny part is that I already do a lot of those gestures, even though I'm not italian (but I have a lot of italian heritage anyway)
Omg, this is too funny!
Greetings from Costa Rica!
love the video very very funny please make another one with the Italian hand gestures with nona and other ones with nona it's very funny
+Doug Ferrera I'll definitely be making more videos like this one :) so glad you enjoyed it
great let me know when you do it
And thanks to 4chan people have given the okay gesture a whole new meaning... thanks internet
This is awesome-- brava!
Well done!
Geez! I could have used this bit of knowledge while in Milan. Now I know what was said when I asked where to find Starbucks in the cafe district. :)
Che bella 🤗🤗🤗 Grazie
Its like the same (or very similar) to aegean and south regions of Turkey. Cheers Italian friends!
No bro it is not. I'm pretty Turkish, lol. I have seen those gestures for the first time in my life ever
Well.. We don't use the "hungry", "afraid", "wonderful" gestures. Sometimes they are used by very old people, but if you talk with someone young, you look weird. :) The "see you later" gesture means "go on". "Good idea" is just a thumb up or the OK gesture.
I've NEVER seen anyone doing that hungry gesture
Your loss! :-P
Forse è un po' "vintage" ma si fa
Really? Maybe because you're cooking is bad.
