Psychological/emotional abuse survivor here. Actually, I'm currently living with the abuser (it's a family member, it's not by my choice but I'm searching means to get out) which put me under A LOT of stress. But I got my own strength, my faith and these songs to get by. ❤
Hope you can get out sooner rather than later. For now, just keep your head up and remember that no one can control you but yourself.
@ligiabremer every day you remain in that environment is dangerous. Start not only looking for a means to get out, but an escape plan if things get really bad.
Plan A is always good, but having backup plans (B, C, D) are always recommended in case Plan A falls through.

I'm bipolar with ADHD, PTSD, severe anxiety and I'm on the spectrum. The last two years have been absolute hell and while some days are better than others, you guys have helped pull me through quite a journey of self discovery and recovery. I couldn't thank you enough. Words fall short. All I can say, is thank you. Today, I don't want to die and that's a huge victory for me.

The terms "victim" and "survivor" are so loosely associated with each other. As a survivor of bullying during grade school and middle school, during that time, I was a victim but I survived through it.
The same goes with Domestic violence. Remember everyone, there is one universal truth in these situations: It is okay to walk away, it is okay to seek help and having children is not an excuse to stay. Get out now because it only gets worse!

I was abused at a young age and no one cared because i was a male and it was probably something i wanted. People looked down on me and called me weak. The solitude, fear and sadness left me to make that choice no one should have to.
When it didn’t work, my eyes opened and i was able to become the survivor and share my stories and thoughts with other men who have had the trauma that i have been through.
I hope one day, the stigma will end.
No one should ever be dismissed over something so stupid and arbitrary I'm so sorry you've had to go through so much, you've survived so many things I hope you know you're an incredibly strong, brave person. I went through a lifetime of DV, from my birth family through to my adopted family. Took me 30 years to finally realise that what I thought was 'love' and a 'happy home' was a cage. I spent 30 years in the cage and the only thing they never took from me was my will to survive. This song is like my anthem, I have never liked being referred to as a victim, because to me that sounds like they won and I lost. I'm bruised, bent and not in the best condition but I survived them. I survived a living hell, I refuse to be known for what happened to me, I want to be known for what I do. I'm finally on the path that I wanted to be on for so long, I can't cry anymore due to GL, but I'm climbing and if any rocks get dislodged in my climb, I hope they don't injure the ones that are the reason for my climb. Though I have hate for them, I do not hate them nor do I pity them. i am numb, indifferent but I am still here and I have survived.

A few years ago I was at an extremely low point of my life and told one of my friends I was planning on ending it, she tried to talk me out of it and I told her "please just stop trying, no one else will even notice or care, and I'm sorry that this is gonna hurt you, but you'll move on and forget about me eventually" and she sent me a song and said "if you aren't going to listen to me can you at least listen to this song for me first", I told her fine, after that video I sent her a message thanking her. The song was Would Anyone Care.
I recently became homeless, got fired from my job because I was forced to mask my autism for too long and kept having meltdowns, which the owner of the place referred to as "temper tantrums" and "throwing fits", because I couldn't unmask, I don't have any form of identification and just under 1000 bucks to my name right now. I have no idea how I'm going to build myself back up, I'm not making this comment for pity or to try and get help but to tell y'all the songs you guys continue to put out give me hope. Hope that one day discussion around mental health, disorders, and disabilities will become less stigmatized, hope that I will overcome this point of my life, hope that one day people will become willing to understand.
Thank you for making songs aimed at destigmatizing depression, anxiety, autism, PTSD for the people like me who have to live with them, while I personally don't struggle with this one thank you for making songs for every person who has to struggle with things like eating disorders, and lastly thank you for making songs for all of us who have to fight ourselves to remind us we our strong enough to survive.

A victim is a person who was wrongfully harmed. A survivor is someone who lived where others have perished. You can be both. You cannot be a survivor with being a victim first. To deny being victimized is to deny legitimacy in your survival. Denying you have been victimized is legitimizing the victimizer and therefore, no wrong was committed. This is the most oxymoronic song ever made.
I agree with your point. I do think it is hurtful to a victim to act like they are not a victim. I also believe it can be empowering to say "You will not hurt me again. I am not your victim.". I think it is good to push through the pain of being a victim to become a survivor. Being a victim may be part of our past, but our future is about being a survivor. We can never change our past. We can change what we do with today, and possibly tomorrow.
Neither place we are in is a negative reflection on us. The victim is not weak, nor a bad person. The survivor is the part of us that carries the victim through it all. Just my thoughts. We all have our own journey.
I do wish that the counselors would stop pushing the idea that being a victim is shameful. It is the same kind of treatment I recieved from the people who have abused me. It might be great psychology for an overly sensitive person who cries victim over every little slight against them. But for a person who has been traumatized by a real life monster, and then have someone else snearing at their ability to claim they were abused or trying to silence them when they finally allow themselves to recognize they were victimized.... seems like another way to abuse a vulnerable traumatized person.

I’m 20 years old and I am living in a very emotionally and mentally abusive house. I am very depressed and thought about ending it all a few times. This song gives me strength and hope for the future. I may feel like giving up right now but I am young and I WILL survive. I’ll become a SURVIVOR not a VICTIM. I may not want to be here some days but my will to survive is stronger.

Im a survivor of incest and sexual abuse that started at age 3 n lasted to age 14 by an older male cousin. Thank you for this song. Ive struggled from m age 11 to current woth self harm also. Im finally back in therapy so thats a plus so i can work on my issues.
