Abu Al-Faraj Ibn Al-Jauzi rahimahu Allah was an Imam in different aspects of the religion. However, as Imam Ibn Taimiyyah and others stated, he defied the creed of the salaf in various ways. So students of knowledge should avoid his creed, especially about Allah's Names and Attributes, but take from his knowledge in other areas of the religion, while respecting the status of this Imam and acknowledging that everyone who is not a Prophet makes mistakes.

They take the fact there were no dots and no vowels to differentiate between different consonants and vowels in the most old Arabic script (which is what the qur'aan was first recorded in), then they make out we are using the wrong dots on some letters or the wrong vowels on some letters and thereby they alter the words and meanings of words and whole verses by this method and purport that we are reciting wrongly and have the wrong meanings and therefore the wrong understanding of the qur'aan. They are the chiefs of the hypocrites and their followers are hypocrites and "They know nothing of this religion of ours" (that is a quote from the prophet himself about two hypocrites, and it is known from this narration and verses of the qur'aan and other narrations aplenty that the reason they were hypocrites is because they called themselves muslims but knew nothing of islaam and were not striving to learn). Everybody knows this very famous narration and we all know there is no disputing its authenticity - it is very clear and cannot be played with and it directs us to read and understand ALL of the verses of the qur'aan regarding where the jews and the christians earned the anger of Allah and went astray from the straight path that earns the pleasure of Allah and to avoid falling into the same evils and weaknesses as them, and the scholars are not infallible and are not sinless and are also subject to all of this as the qur'aan is as much and equally a warning, if not more of a warning, to those who have knowledge, more so to those who have understanding, and yet more to those who have insight and wisdom, and yet even more so to those who have been granted foresight by Allah in this deen: The prophet (sollaa Allahu `alayhi wa-sallam) said (what means) "This ummah will FOLLOW the previous two nations IN EVERYTHING even if they were to crawl into the hole of a lizard. The companions asked "O messenger of Allah, is that the jews and the christians (ie. "the previous two nations")?" and he replied "Who else?" And from this narration we understand it is a very clear warning and an implicit command from Allah to ALL muslims, the scholars and the laymen, to learn from the qur'aan where in the religion and how the jews and the christians erred and even became hypocrites and unbelievers (and remain unbelievers to this day) and to avoid falling into the same traps laid by shaytaan, our primary enemy, and to remain steadfast with our faith intact as with evil deeds and with the avoidance of good our faith will diminish (and can be entirely removed never to return, so fear Allah and fear His plan for you, in shaa' Allah, fear Him as He should be feared or your potential paradise is at risk of being permanently taken from you by Allah) and with good deeds and the avoidance of evil our faith will increase. It is obligatory upon every muslim to know these things, for how do you avoid falling into so many traps if you are not even aware they exist, how do you walk through a minefield for your whole life without ever stepping on a single landmine - what people do is worse than that when we are talking about avoidance of the traps of the shaytaan and the evils and weaknesses of our selves as well as others and when people are navigating through life blindly without knowledge of where they could destroy themselves and/or others.
So, this matter is most serious because the jews and the christians are unbelievers and so essentially we are warned by Allah and were warned by His messenger that this ummah WILL follow the jews and the christians EVEN IF IT MEANS THIS UMMAH WILL EVENTUALLY BE UNBELIEVERS JUST LIKE THEM (refer to the very famous and authentic narration where the prophet said he had a dream and Allah showed him some of his companions - meaning people who claim to be from his ummah on the day of judgment - going to the fire and he asked why and Allah told him "O Muhammad, you do not know what they did after you; they altered the religion" - and this refers to those through the history of this ummah who alter the religion of islaam and those who leave islaam and become a follower of another religion and so it definitely means they are unbelievers who are thrown into hell forever. Therefore, whoever says muslims can never become unbelievers and can never end up in hell and whoever distrots narrations and uses fabricated and weak narrations to try to suggest this, then they are a hypocrite and an unbeliever in Allah as Allah is very clear about the fact the all the unbelievers will be in hell forever and He is very clear that includes the jews and the christians too. So it is important to know the last hour will be the most difficult of trials for the true believers because the true believers will be massively outnumbered by the hypocrites who will use their large numbers to justify their heretical satanism dressed up as islaam and to attack the true believers in every possible way they can. There will be many difficult bitter truths to accept that many of those we thought to be good people really are evil and are hypocrites when it comes to it, and such is the nature of the last hour. It is no wonder there is a massive increase in evil people throwing around made up terms such as "takfeeri" unjustly at true believers who are speaking the truth, but then with sleight of tongue those same victimhood claimants will throw takfeer more than anybody by using it as a means of trying to bully vulnerable muslims into accepting their heretical lies and misguidance and so they will package their kufr with the implications that whoever does not accept their kufr is a kaafir. I will give an example of this from first hand experience with a rebellious naashizah whom I had no choice but to divorce lest I would have been misled to jahannam as a dayooth: I heard it screamed at me, "Allah says ALL men and women can be close intimate friends (she means unbelievers too, she ignores 5:51 and all the other verses like it) in the qur'aan verse 9:71 (and here is the loaded takfeer designed to bully and manipulate using ignorance and fear) and whoever says otherwise is in denial of the qur'aan" - and there you go.. one of the most extreme and sweeping statements of takfeer anybody could ever utter, so extreme that it actually includes every single true believer ever to exist in this ummah including all the righteous scholars and the companions and even the prophet himself is included in that takfeer because of course the prophet would have denied this insane malinterpretation and we all know this based on what the evidences are against this insane takfeer...
The shi`ah also ardantly follow and employ the sunnah of Masalamah ibn Habeeb at-Tameemi al-Hanafiyyah in altering the mus-haf in their evil fabricated narrations and implicitly in their claims "The qur'aan has been changed" or "has problematic verses" or "problematic words" etc. Most of those people are connected to and/or studied at a place called "The Bayan Islamic Graduate School" in the USA and also from random secualr universities and do not have the scholarly background of traditional learning the correct way with ijaazah from highly reputed muslim scholars at their tail end of the last generation for us; but they are what is called "mustashrik" and it means they are qualified under mushrikoon from mushrik institutes and this means it is haraam to learn from them and one should not keep their company and should not so much as even listen to their recitation of the qur'aan lest they arrance the verses strangely or recite them strangely in order to alter the meanings and their poison will reach your ears, enter your blood and reach your heart and this is no good for us. In fact, that is descration of the qur'aan, not recitation of it, and it is a mockery and a distortion, so of course it may poison one's heart listening to such a thing being done - it falls into sorcery, and the worst of sorcery involves abuse of the qur'aan. (No Arabic keyboard at the moment, sorry) "'Inna min al-bayaani sihran 'aw ba`dh al-bayaani sihr", "Indeed in rhetoric there is magic, indeed some rhetoric is magic". It is important to know who we are taking our knowledge from, to know they are not evil and Allah has no left us blind so we do not get any kind of signs or warnings as to who they are, but it means we must know islaam to at least an acceptable basic level of understanding or we will miss these things (refer to 5:44 and 47:29-30).

The son of Nuh alayhi salam was a kafir. The uncle of our Prophet صلي الله عليه وسلم was also a kafir. So what?
