I hope you're not basing the price of the e-golf on the MSRP? Mostly due to the fact that you can find a lot of used e golf's at 10K. That's my selling point as to why this is possibly the best first ev to get as your first electric car but also have another car for long distance. On a side note I still want that Jaguar I pace 👌
Sorry this car wasn't electrifying enough for you, but why does every so called EV critic think the e-Golf was designed to set speed records? It is as you stated at 6:50 a basic commuter car, although a nice one. Your range anxiety sets in because you fail to recognized that most people average 30 miles round trip on their work commute. Starting out with a full charge that leaves 95 miles of range, therefore eliminating the need for 220 volt charger, since most people just park their car until the next day. Just plug it into an ordinary outlet and you'll still have plenty of range. I learned this fact from a Bolt user who only used her 110 outlet to charge. Think about it if your car sits in the garage for 12 hours a day, that is 84 hours of charging time every week. Since owning a new 2017 e-Golf I have only charged at free public stage 2 ports. I started in southern California where the AC ran all the time and eventually moved to North Carolina where the winter will knock some miles off the range, but never enough to stop me from enjoying the heater and seat warmer. The Eco modes you mentioned are not like the Sport and Eco setting on ICE, instead it is more of a training tool for beginners and not really needed for day to day driving. Should you decide to drive it to empty, the car will automatically go through these modes in order to extend its range until you can charge. This is not only a great urban car, but fully capable of highway driving without the drone of a four banger. We frequently take it on day drives, but if we need something with more range, we'll take the wife's Prius. If I was single I would just rent an ICE. The point is EVs like the e-Golf are really designed for the majority of drivers. Critics like yourself do a disfavor when you primarily focus on speed performance. Does it have enough torque and speed to get you onto the highway safely yes. The Chevy Bolt is a rocket, but has cheap interior with uncomfortable seats and is more expensive. The e-Golf has a well appointed interior that any ICE Golf driver would feel comfortable with. I think you missed the opportunity to focus on what this car really is.
@Dignan Cacaw It's a shame VW stopped making e-Golfs, as it a well appointed and engineered vehicle. Delighted to see you get what the vehicle was designed for, and are able to show that most of us only need 120v outlet to get by with this type of EV. Thank you.
As a 30k car it's way overpriced. However after the rebates from state and federal you can get it for 12-15k depending on state rebates so then it's worth it as a daily to save money and spend it on the sports car or offroader.
@@star-lucks3641 if you buy it in California you get the 7.5k government credit. Then the 12k state credit so its 19.5k off the actual price. They also have 5k rebates but I am not sure if that's still going.

I've seen one of these in person. The engine bay has enough space for a whole other motor and battery capacity. A lot of wasted space up there. With the right programming it could probably make 180-200HP in short "sport" mode bursts.
LOL it's knee capped on purpose to not outshine GTI. That bay could easily fit a single 200kw (268hp) Motor and close to 300lb/ft torque. But the problem would be FWD Torque Steer.
My e-golf has a top speed of 100mph, a range of 144 miles claimed by VW but have a max range of 170 miles in summer with it dropped to 100 miles in really cold weather. Would say it's a great car for commuters but it is going to be replaced with the ID3 purpose built EV with the golf 8 coming out as purely an internal combustion engine. It's a shame they didn't have a place for the cables in the motor bay as it would have been more convenient when out and about to access the charging cables.
Wow. This is pretty terrible. Who did they think would buy this? People in countries where there’s no Nissan Leaf or model 3? These companies aren’t serious about EVs yet. Embarrassing.
I’ll have to take the official 1/4 mile record from you with a 16.00@83.69, dragy verified. I’m certain the car could crack 15s if it wasn’t for the 85 mph limiter.
