It's not a general term encompassing ALL mental health conditions according to te DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition). Hence, if you have other conditions than ASD, for instance Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), you aren't on the spectrum. I'm on the spectrum myself. Moreover, the DSM is an official medical document that professionally refers to mental health conditions as 'mental disorders' too. 'Mental disorders' is an official term used in professional contexts and isn't meant to sound derogatory. In fact, a lot of neurodivergent conditions are officially named a 'disorder', e.g. General Anxiety Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) etc. Hardly any professional renames them to sound 'more respectful'. I love how she didn’t do a voiceover for her story! So far it looks like the other candidates have done voiceovers on cinematic videoclips, which I thought was safe and easier to do. Michelle simply told her story like she was being interviewed on the spot. That shows real confidence and authenticity ✨
