    Great episode!
This show uncovers what we all should know by now. There is NOT a set or given way to train our dogs. Your personality, the dogs personality, what you want to accomplish, how you hunt, family environment... All come into play. What was apparent was that there was a ton of knowledge being thrown around and if I wanted to get smarter I needed to rewind and listen carefully and take notes. Thanks again for the informative and helpful podcasts as well as showing us all the pretty faces.

No sir. It is still up. It was recorded prior to video podcasts so only available on audio streaming platforms. It’s episode 182 on the Gun Dog It Yourself feed on Spotify or Apple

    Not true!

How fun is it to train a bird dog if you have to think about ALL this non sense? Really easy to train bird dogs of any breed that doesn't have to be this complicated. It is good to understand all this stuff, but more confusion to those that don't understand it. Simplification is your friend.....Black and White world.

I had a bit of a tough time too,to comprehend what they are talking about. But it's because I didnt know what the technical dog training terms meant. But once I did a little research I found what they meant. So that helped. They're discussion is quite philosophical ,but for me it can be very beneficial to learn the philosophical side of it.

Thanks for watching! I can see and relate to what you're saying. However, to answer your question, I personally don't have fun training dogs if Im NOT thinking about the bigger picture and context of it all. I don't agree dog training is a black and white world as that would be a disservice to anyone thats dedicated their careers and livelihoods by developing it as a true skillset or profession.
I believe there should be substantially more thought given to how most people approach training their dogs. If it was as simple as you imply and its just doing the same thing over and over again regardless of the particular dog, breed, individual handler, environment, and their unique end goals then I would find it really boring and unfulfilling myself.
But each their own! As long as you and your dog are having fun then continue doing it your way! In my opinion, that doesn't make other people's thought process nonsense though.

@@gundogityourself agree....you should always be thinking and learning while training dogs. NOBODY knows it all. The Black and White statement was mainly for the dogs benefit....they learn best with clear objectives. We do too for that matter....simple is better and less is more.
It is good to understand the training quadrants and also different techniques to apply to the many different temperaments of dogs and trainers. No cookie cutter method fits all dogs/all people.
Food for thought....bird dog training is really teaching the dog a series of cues to get it to do its instinctual job for the hunter. If you don't train the dog you will most likely have a self hunter that could care less who is with it. Many way to teach these few cues. And the better they are taught and generalized the better the dog will perform for you. Nothing replaces time and effort. Once the dog knows the cues well he can start his education on wild birds....wild birds are the real teachers. Wild birds will show you where the holes are in your training and will expose faults in the dogs breeding.
      Keep up the good work!
