I saw Kevin Eldon do this live yesterday, in full Tony Rudd costume, and instead of a guitar he had Franz Ferdinand as a backing band. It will live with me till the day I die.
Genuinely one of the funniest things I've ever seen. The build up. The initial "Machadaynu". The brief pause and turn to the camera before the scream. The fact the most futuristic music they could envisage involves an acoustic guitar. Brilliant.
Completely agree, it is the build up, and the notion that what is about to follow is the result of some sort of deeply considered solution to the problem, that sells it. Look Around You should have won every award going, but it got drowned out somehow by more conventional things. Some of the conceits were brilliant. I remember, a "computer for women" (with a space to put your lipstick), enthusiastically promoted by the female presenters as a big step forward for women's lib which told you everything you needed to know about how enlightened the 70s and early 80s really were in practice. It was very clever satire.

Only now, with the benefit of hindsight, can we see what a visionary this man really was. Clearly, he considered the oncoming advances in computer hardware, musicians' increasing reliance on digital sequencers and mixing software, and extrapolated this cutting edge sound. Truly, this man saw the future.
It's a masterpiece, the relaxed smile at the start, the pained concentration while he's singing, the hellish chord changes, the haunting interdimensional high note, truly terrifying

Everything about this is perfect, but my favourite ridiculous detail they’ve put in is that he’s a teacher at St. Cerberus Comprehensive - Cerberus of course being in no way a Saint, but the hound of Hades 😂😂
He was obviously drawing inspiration from the Norwegian supergroup, Black Flying Thunder Arteries, who have been known to mix acoustics with the Celtic language and insane mellotron solos.
