I now live in Australia but have fond memories of Blackpool........I would have been there as a seven year old when this film was taken....... Thanks for posting......
Nice memories.......Fresh air and fun! Charlie Cairoli at the Tower Circus.......Live music at the Ice show,,,, Fresh Cockles.....Endless Rock stalls and those "naughty" postcards, The Rumble of the trams and the wonderful tableaux on the North Shore. Irish Sea crashing over the sea walls during the autumn gales....... Miss you Blackpool!
My family and I left Blackpool in 1954 when I was 6 to come here to Australia. I haven't been back so these movies are fantastic for me. It's a shame that my mum and dad passed years ago as they would have loved to see them...
If I ever wished I lived somewhere in the old days. Then I would choose Blackpool every time. Watching all the great comedians and singers who have sadly now gone. I bet that was an experience.
I was stationed near Blackpool when I started my national service in the RAF. I did a six week driving course in 1960 and would battle it out with the trams on the front. We often passed George Formby's house but never saw him out and about. Happy says!
Blackpool is still worth a visit, even if its just a day out, Have to say though , I have some wonderful memories of coming here with my Late father and siblings back in the 60's, It seemed a magical oasis,
I was born in North London in 57, But this feature film of Blackpool , at around the time of my birth, makes me so proud to be part of this great British land.
Nice work....good to see Blackpool as it should be, and not as it is now! The art deco cafe in the last shot of Stanley Park has recently been renovated, they have stripped it back to it's original look. The food is great, they have a bar now and a baby grad piano!
Wow, this is fab! I was born in Blackpool in 1974, and raised there...I live just up the prom now in Cleveleys. Thanks for sharing this lovely film with us. xxx
There is one question does any out there know whether or not there archive footage of inside Blackpool tower of the 1900's and onwards it would be intresting so see what is was like back in those days
Those were the days, when the Woolworth Building was really Woolworths and the illuminations worked on relays (not computer programs) and it was one year before Corrie.
i live in blackpool its weird watching it im only 16 lol prob y =] n the bit with the fountin n flowers is called stanley park =] i live down the road from it
The fountain area is called the Italian gardens. I lived very close to the park for many years. Near the lake was a working floral clock and it was kept in superb condition...a credit to the gardeners. I also remember when they had an old lifeboat on the lake. I spent many days playing tennis next to the now derelict Pavillion.
@thestevo46 May 1958 Cliff changed his name from Harry Webb, and Played the Regal Ballroom Ripley Derbyshire. As Cliff Richard and the Drifters. Couldn't have been to great as they never came back?

Its good to see these kinds of clips , local councils (and the general public) certainly had more civic pride in those days.
Your comment very old
