    Its ability to push dirt with the worn street pads will be limited pushing dirt, uphill will be really bad. I'd be changing to true off road one ridge pads and the chains if theres much side to side slop. The tensioner on the looser side may have a leaking issue.
    Its transmission was way ahead of its time. A regular clutch on the back of the engine, then a automatic transmission thats 1 to 1 rato in bolth directions BUT THERE IS NO TORQUE CONVERTER.
    noise in reverse is common. and then the manual gearbox 4sp or 5sp or somtimes a 4sp with an extra reverse. In short it has the efficiency of a classic gear drive, but the ability to change direction of travel like a hydrostatic transmission.
    The only real drawback is its not possible to pop start it dragging it with a larger machine.
    There Good dozers just dont expect it to equal say a D4 as its far smaller.

      Awesome! Thank you for all that! Seriously saving this comment for its info! I actually welded on 1"x1/2" grousers onto these pads.. and it did amazing in the mud and snow.. Good eye on the tensioner.. I noticed the same thing and will be looking into that as well...Thx for watching and LOVE the constructive input!

    It's a 350 B, needs hoses and track pads, those are for a loader, not gonna push much esp. uphill. Undercarriage looks pretty good, that is one of the most expensive parts to replace. I have one just like it, works great around my Tree Farm...

    Any used piece of equipment is most likely going to need hoses, figure that into your price. In Missouri they get 1000.00 a day to hire someone with the equipment. Kris and I did the same thing you are doing, weighed our options on how many days we would need to hire someone then decided it wuld be better to buy our own. Just remember, when you are done with it you can always sell it to recoop some of your money.
    just dont expect to jump on it and be as fast as someone you would hire, they get paid for their experience.

    I read all the comments they all seem like they're very well-thought-out. I think it's a excellent by. And any used equipment is always going to have a repair. Knowing your resources that you do we'll make this an easy purchase for you. If you have to have somebody else work on it that's when it becomes costly. I know your ability and I know your resourcefulness this will be an excellent purchase for you plus it's a great toy

    There seems to be a lot of heavy equipment on the market right now for cheap. I don't know much about dozers to tell how much work it will need in the future. Hoses aren't to expensive where I live, about $50 a hose. A backhoe is a really nice all around thing to have around a homestead but a dozer will be nice to plow snow in the winter. :)

  • @rogerbettencourt9654
    @rogerbettencourt9654 3 года назад +3

    I know nothing about heavy equipment, except it’s heavy. Lol. Depending on the price it could be a great deal and since you already know where you can get hoses and other parts, locally in Idaho, it could stand to pay for itself in no time at all.

    My Grandpa had one just like that, I remember using it, moving sand and debris from a spring flood. The Five way blade was so nice. The track shoe was more aggressive than this one. I know nothing on what to look for other than how stretched is the current track how much adjustment on the front wheel you have. OH Add up all the things you need to do to make this dozer reliably functional and for each item add 750 to 1000 bucks and you have your total cost for the machine. A working 350 is a treat to use. Wouldn't a backhoe /loader be more versatile for your needs?

    • @HiddenValleyHomestead
      @HiddenValleyHomestead  3 года назад

      Well actually this one has a functioning PTO and I will be looking for a backhoe for it! But in the meantime I will rent a mini excavator for any trenching I need... It is so easy to operate!

    I have 3 350 loaders and 2 350 dozers, they are great machines if you don't try to do more than they can handle, didn't see on the video you actually operating it but if you did and it pulls good in all gears and steers good buy it. There is one other thing to check is under the seat where the reverser transmission bolts to the main transmission, make sure those bolts aren't stripped out, and I noticed on the crossover rear a bolt was out, good luck.

    • @HiddenValleyHomestead
      @HiddenValleyHomestead  3 года назад

      Thank you for all that! I had actually read that bit about the reverser on a forum before I bought it and those bolts were tight! So I bought it. Just tried it out and it works great but the reverser has a significant leak underneath somewhere so that I have to fill every day before I run it.. I also can't find any lever to shut off the PTO... That is the wrong style grouser for a dozer. There's nothing for those tracks to bite on to push, that style track goes on a loader. You will find that you spin quite a bit. It looks like it has had a hard life. I own a dirt company. I have a few dozers.

    • @HiddenValleyHomestead
      @HiddenValleyHomestead  3 года назад

    • @Joe.M
      @Joe.M 3 года назад +1

      @@HiddenValleyHomestead The Track chain pins look like they've been turned twice. In the video they appear to have flat spots. The pin that engages the Sprocket should be round. Over time they develop flat spots from engaging the sprocket. That's when the pins are turned ,so to get more life out of the tracks. If the pad tread is above the bolts, you're still good. I have a 855c Case track loader. The previous owner instead of replacing the track pads, he welded 1" square steel bar to the pads. It worked, and is still holding up. A lot cheaper, just time consuming to do it.

I already tried it out and it did awesome! Way cheaper than the $1600 set of new pads and bolts i found online... Also I believe I have more extension on those tensioner so hopefully I can get a bit more life out of the chain! Great comments my friend! Truly appreciated!

      I had to rebuild the track tensioners on my 855. Online the cost per side was over a thousand with shipping and tax. I used the original springs and made my own spring housings. Cost me $500.00 and my time.
