    Benicio said in a different interview that sometimes the movie chooses the audience rather than the other way around. That's exactly what a cult classic does.

    Fear and loathing didn't do well??? Funny because just about everyone I know regards it as a cult classic masterpiece.

      Well,it didnt do well AT THE TIME. Poor box office and mediocre results....now Yes,it is a true classic. Interviewer cut things off half way through.

      It is, but it didn’t perform well at the box office and had mixed reviews. But a lot of great movies have that same history and are now regarded as classics.

    It’s sad hearing that people didn’t like the movie, it’s really only for intelligent individuals who love literature because the book really painted the whole movie and they acted it out beautifully! My number 1 favorite movie ever and the book is crazy!

      Yup. Didn't do well. Too unconventional, too blurry in terms of the point it's trying to make (even though Duke literally spells it out in of the scenes before the end of the film), a lot of Dutch angles, very chronologically splintered (A movie with a lot of drug abuse ? Chronologically slintered ? Who coulda though ?).
      Ofcourse it didn't do well. With mister Major Public, who wants the most obvious and easy-to-consume shit ? *Ofcourse it didn't do well !*

    it was a sleeper. failed when it came out, worked up a reputation later on.
