Never believe a fish is dead until you've made absolutely sure. My first goldfish jumped out of his 60 gallon tank and I found him laying on the ground "dead". I had a cry and buried him in the garden in a tupperware cause I felt weird about things eating his body. Then I looked up how long fish survive out of water to find out how long he suffered. I was shocked! In a cool room on a hard surface, goldfish can seal their gills up overnight! We rushed out to dig him up and put him back in the tank where he started moving! And here I am 4 years later, he just celebrated his 9th birthday. He did turn completely white after the incident...

if you have hermit crabs and duckweed they’re a great combination!! they love eating it so whenever you trim your weed you can feed it to them or give them to people who do have hermits

His name is Squeaky and he was the most spoiled Mexican Redhead Parrot. He only went in his cage to sleep. Otherwise he always followed me everywhere (and he was newspaper trained so I didn't have to worry about accidents - he went on command). So clever and endlessly curious. I was sad that I got too sick to keep him (I had GBS about a year after I got him and spent about 3 months paralyzed).

All are cory catfish except 3 bettas someone brought to me because they were really sick. Now they are healthy and happy. Anyway, my tanks now have carib sea super natural sand and only live plants. You would probably give me a 4 until all of the plants grow out. It's a miracle that the plants lived. I am one of those people that can kill a plant just by looking at it.

For about 3 months I had a betta live in that crap. When things went awry, only then did I realize the mistake I had made in getting that thing.
I now have a filtered and heated 5-gallon with dense vegetation and plenty of decoration. Betta loves it.

The video with the betta totally happens. I have had it happen two separate times in my life. The first time was my pea puffer when I was 10. It was completely dead looking in the tank but once it hit the toilet water it started swimming. I brought it back to its tank and it stopped moving again. It did not come back when my mom put it back in the toilet again. More recently I started my first fish tank as an adult. I got a "shrimp-proof" filter to protect my chili rasboras but it still sucked one up. I ran the filter in the sink and it swam but it did not swim in the tank. It sadly passed after like 10 minutes in the sink. I replaced the filter with a sponge filter and all of my fish are happy and healthy now. It felt terrible knowing that the filter killed them.

One of my old mates had a fish bowl (at most 1 gallon) with 2 baby lion head and a Male beta fish. No heater, one fake plant and just enough gravel to cover the bottom. I told them it was a bad idea and tried to educate them that betas are tropical and can’t be housed with goldfish and that bowl was far too small. They didn’t believe me and said they were going to listen to the pet shop smh. About a month later the beta took out one of the lion heads eyes and she returned it to the pet shop, hopefully he found a better home. And as far as I know to this day those goldfish are still in the same gallon bowl (this was about a year ago). Also to make matters worse she was texting me the same day asking about water conditioner. I told her she needed to set up the tank and it’ll be a long while before she can add fish. Same day she’s down the pet shop and goes home with a bowl and the 2 lion heads. Some people just don’t want to learn

I found it isn't so much bettas don't like big tanks, more they don't like wide open spaces found in big tanks. Large tanks that overgrown with plants that also have floating plants will have a happy Betta.
If you want to keep your betta in a large tank and don't want to do live plants, pop plastic plants off their base and they will float

Green algae in a tank is not always bad. As long as your water parameters is ok. It just means that there is too much light.
If the water parameters is showing high nitrates/nitrites/ammonia, then that is bad.
Algae is a plant, it eats up extra nutrients. Slimy and not aesthetically pleasing but not always bad.

Those little tiny tanks would be perfect to attach inside a big tank with current to give the smaller fish a place to rest. Could make it really cool looking. I use glass vases in my 200 gallon goldfish take to give the 1 fancy a place to get away from the current. He uses them all the time.

I'm pretty late but here are my experiences.
Sooo I went to a mall and decided to go to a pet shop there.
I was looking at fish supplies and I noticed a pet shop employee dangling his hand on top of the frickin tank of flowerhorn fishes
    and guess what,
a fish jumped out of the tank and onto the floor. 😒 He wasn't feeding them whatsoever, he just put his hand on top of the tank, sorta teased the fishes, and got shocked when one jumped out. sigh.
Also, some bettas are kept in a really really small containers, they can barely move and the others on a small tank are pretty much dying, dead, or slightly healthy.
Though I think that like 80 percent of the fish on the small tanks are healthy, (from what I saw) I don't think they even bother to remove or treat the dying/sick/dead ones.
This other experience was in a pet shop near our house. My brother brought home three betta fishes. He got them from a close friend of his and were kept in cut glass bottles and from what I have seen in a facebook betta group, a tank for a betta should be at least 2.5 gallons. I went to that pet store and me and my siblings debated on which tank we should get, a 15 gallon tank that we will divide in three, or three 2.5 gallon tanks. The pet store guy said cups are okay and are all they need and offered one of those small, plastic tank divided in three. I declined and decided to get the three 2.5 gallon tanks. They keep bettas in plastic cups, a pet frog in dirty water with leftover food all over, didn't clean cats' litter boxes, Don't worry, the cats were sold already. Y'all may say that we shouldn't have purchased from there, but it was the closest and cheapest store here. Also, I didn't have much of a choice cause we drove there already and the bettas were in those cups for a long amount of time.

I agree with the comment at the beginning of the video even though I keep a betta in a tank without rocks. In my defense, the tank and the betta being housed in it are intended for breeding and I don't have rocks because I had bred goldust mollies in the past and some of the babies got stuck in the tank's rocks and I'd prefer not having that kind of situation again. Before anyone thinks to ask, I have a sponge filter, a heater, a cave for him to hide in and a snail to help keep the tank clean, and the tank itself is above 2.5 gallons.

One thing about bettas - they don't really have a 'minimum'. Maybe a 100 gal is a little too much for them? HOWEVER - they need hides! They want a heavily planted tank, i.e. a tank that you can't see from one side to the other because of the plants. They do also need a slow flow, but you will certainly have that if you have enough plants that you can't see through the tank.
5-10 is a good starting point because it's easy to get enough plants to completely fill it, but you could get a HUGE aquarium for one. In the wild a betta might have a territory a quarter of a square acre. That's a lot of water.
I might be a betta nerd.

    • @gammelfleischparty9066
      @gammelfleischparty9066 4 года назад

Thats true, but most bettas nowadays have nothing in common with the wild betta anymore, they've been bred for decades. You could get them a 100 gollon tank, but it would be a lot to plant tbh and for most other fish, too much plants and most bettas don't go well with a community. It stresses them and shortens the life. I keep mine in 20 gallons each, not small, a godd territory to keep and still able to swim trough with huge fins.
Wild bettas ,giant bettas and plakat bettas can keep bigger territory without getting exhausted too fast.

It's definitely possible to teach certain fish to recognize thier names, but it shouldn't ever be used to scold them with. Never punish a fish, just give them positive reinforcement when they behave properly. The poor babies don't know better, and they only learn to be afraid from punishment...
