The Manchelopi is amazing. The sheep are used for the milk to make manchego cheese, and now they are using the wool to make yarn! I made the Soft Focus and it’s a beautiful shawl. It took just a little more than one skein. The Mota I just bought, and it’s almost the same meterage as Corrie Worsted.

So , I use Kroy for socks as well. It is the workhorse of sock yarn. I use my hand dyed fingering weight for shawls etc.
The thing I do that is so cheap but works is that I go on-line and order one ball of the yarn everyday for store pick-up using the daily 30% off coupon. Once I have the 3-4 balls I need, I go pick it up. So I basically get one ball for free!

Love your discussion of Menopause. We do need to have more research and support around care for menopause. I found the book about Adrenal Fatigue that really helped me deal with sleep issues. Used HRT even before I went into menopause, find someone else who specializes in HRT. Soma lingerie and sleep wear is great for cool nights fabric line to help with night sweats.

It is so important that we talk about and support each other through peri and menopause! I started menopause at “60”. Yes, it is amazing but I didn’t start my period until I was almost 17. My GP was amazing and very supportive about trying natural things to help the symptoms. They worked for a bit then stopped. I eventually went on Prempro for a couple years which helped. My OB/GYN took me off it and said don’t take anything 🥺. It is slowly getting better. I get bitchy but not as bad as I did and the hot flashes aren’t as severe. I wake up dripping in sweat once in a while but even that is better than it was. I feel for all the other women who don’t have someone to talk to. It would be great to start a group to support each other. Thanks for bringing up the subject. PS love Michelle Obama and Oprah 🥰.

Jodi- that Spincycle is gorgeous- have you considered holding a strand of mohair with it to bulk it up? It’s my latest obsession - it mutes the Spincycle a touch but it creates such a beautiful fabric- especially if the mohair is lighter - it still lets the Spincycle shine.

Great conversation about Menopause. I love my PCP and trust her but when it came to mp, she put me on a a low dose antidepressant that is used as an alternative to HRT. It was great for the hot flashes but did not help all the other symptoms. It was very addicting and it took me months to get off of it when I realized it was not helping me. I decided to go to my Gynecologist and it was a wake up call. She started listing all my symptoms without me even telling her! She started me on HRT and monitored me for the first three months to make sure it worked for me. It was the first time in three years I felt remotely myself. Go to the specialist! Have the conversation! We need to start expecting more from our Health Care providers. ❤

Wow-I have so much to say related to this episode! First of all, if you’re not happy with the way your primary care doctor handles your care and PARTNERS with you for YOUR health care decisions, time to get a new primary care physician or ask for a referral/consult to a specialist. In the case of menopause, an ob/gyn or womens health physician. I’m almost 60 and went through menopause in my mid 40s to early 50’s. I was done but then started to have abnormal bleeding June 2020, three months after a knee replacement and 3 months into COVID when pretty much all of healthcare was shut down. My primary care consulted with an ob/gyn and they worked as a team to figure out a plan for me to get the tests I needed and the procedures I needed to determine if I had cancer (I didn’t) despite the near shutdown. The bleeding is and has been controlled by me taking progesterone daily which you guessed it, gives me hot flashes at around 5 am. But that’s ok given no bleeding. But it does feel like this “stuff” we have to deal with never ends. Be an advocate for yourselves!
Next-You have to try the yarn from Wool Dreamers. If you’re in the US, Bae at wooldreamersus.com will hook you up. I’m met Bae at Wisconsin Sheep and Wool this past September. I fell in love everything she had in her booth. I really encourage you to look at the Wool Dreamers website and read about the sustainable agriculture practices that are used on their sheep farms and in obtaining fiber from the waste in the dairy industry (these yarns are from Spain and just think about all the sheep cheese consumed in Spain). I ended up purchasing a sweaters quantity of Mota in black and am making the Dustland sweater (almost to the sleeve split!). Mota comes in a ton of colors, is worsted weight, and has what I feel is a good price point for the yardage.

Tracie, of COURSE you can do whatever you want! However, traditionally, The first day of Christmas is Dec 25th. It represents the day that the 3 Kings saw the Star of Bethlehem. It took them 12 days to follow the star to Jesus' location. This is why Jan 6th is known as Kings' Day and, in some countries, that's when kids open their Christmas gifts. And, of course, there's the special Kings Day cake. Jan 6th is also called Twelfth Night.

Womens health as a whole does not have the attention that mens do. I was in healthcare for 45 years. Cardiac care is based on men's responses to aspiran. We do not demonstrate chest pain like men.
As far as hormone replacement, something else should be made to work than estrogen. I had breast cancer because of hormone replacement. I took the lowest dose and still got it. The medical field needs to help us more. Bottom line more research in women's healrh.
