The interview hasn't even started yet and I have to say one thing I get from each one of these episodes is the level of wisdom that you have brother Ali. Your insight and thoughtfulness is well beyond most individuals that i hear speak. Thank you for teaching me something every time i listen. Thank you.

This is awesome... First of all, Brother Ali, the way you frame things is second to none. What a gift to have this sent to you and I think this younger eager expression you've got is beautiful for this time capsule, for us listeners I think we all just love you and get happy for your chance to talk to Slick Rick... He always did have one of the coolest voices in hip hop and that goes for speaking as well as rapping I come to find out today :'D Great veteran perspective and I'm loving his colorful vocabulary about things too... "Detrimental to your future", and "the underground has always been where you see new flowers pop up" are just examples... Anyway, a Slick Rick and Brother Ali conversation from 2005 was an unexpected but appreciated thing to hear right now. Thank you!

I love brother ali, but very much not for the suggestion that therapy is necessary for anything. Its a single, industrial method for managing populations and whatever soul you try and built, the process will dehumanize most of what goes on. Self awareness is key, but psychotherapy has done nothing to advance the real state of consciousness.
The art, the community, the kids... all better sources of inspiration. If you are at the end of your rope and need to buy a decent friend. if they are that rare... go rent one for a while.
but you need to be building a real nest for yourself. therapy will never show up for you as an engaged, compassionate community would. run out of money and then give them a call...

You’re entitled to your opinion and I respect you for sharing it. I’m gonna offer sone counterpoints for folks who may be reading this an on the fence about therapy.
You mention community, culture and family and those are all necessary parts of healthy life. But they’re not mutually exclusive to talking to a therapist and so many people live in isolation that they could use support in stepping out of.
The idea of r”renting a fiend” belies the additional role of speaking with an objective professional who’s there to provide service.
You’re giving the impression that “psychotherapy” controls the masses. There are many approaches to therapy and the Freud version that was called psychotherapy is rare. In the experiences I’ve had as a client and someone with a large net work of therapist friends, I haven’t seen therapists try to affect political views, or lifestyles.
We partner with BetterHelp because it’s been extremely beneficial for me and I know that a lot of people are having a hard time . If you listen to the podcast, you’ll know that we encourage community culture, spirituality, exercise, eating, right. Therapy is a piece of the puzzle that people deserve access to.
      Much love

      @@BrotherAli_Travelers cheers!
I don't think it controls the masses. I think there's a widespread oversight, shared this, and had to clarify my own position as I listened through it. I believe bicameralism (Julian Jaynes) is more true to life, that's a whole discussion in itself.
Agreed some people need to get out of abusive spaces; more options for people to get space to breathe is generally a good thing. What if deep in the human spirit, the sort of feelings we get from relating to people, are actually manifesting a purpose. Like, to have that moment of trust, you should have a result of a person you can call for a "favor". That's my preference, anyways. I know a lot of people who appreciate their time with therapy, they just always gave that more credit for their root stability than the things that made up far more of their life.
It's not about them affecting people's politics. I think positions should evolve, "whatever comes up comes out" is solid advice. There's a lot of mystery remaining in the human experience! Cheers!
