    Why wouldn't you just get plugs for the towers instead of cutting the gaskets ?

    If you have the dod turned off via tune or the range device in the obd2 port could you not just plug the oil towers like you would when you do a full delete?

  • @catbird1759

    As for the high pressure lift pump getting enough oil from below, it has only an opening in the casting of the block. Which is why GM added the oiling port from the VLOM. It has a lifter made in the adapter for lift to the high pressure fuel pump. It needs oil. And why cut the gaskets around the oiling towers if you have them plugged. Unnecessary and added insurance if oil pressure gets by the fabricated plug near the oil pressure gauge?

    • @RadoV8Swap
      @RadoV8Swap 10 месяцев назад

      What is interesting is the L84 does not have that hole for oiling the fuel pump on the valley cover because it is DFM. I do not see on the L84 how it oils that area like the LT1, L86, L83, etc. So I am wondering if it is even needed because why would GM delete it on the newer gen?

    Great video, got a 2009 Silverado 5.3 53,000 miles but the vlom bolts were all lose in the front as well. On the DOD which place you recommend for the reflash?

    So im having an issue where I did de delete kit from Texas speed and now I’m having an issue that I’m getting a lot of oil in the intake manifold and intake valves I have check compression and valve seal and all good I think thinks an issue with my VLOM leaking so much oil trough the AFM SYSTEM that the PCV valve it’s sending all that in to the intake and before you ask it has a brand new PCV I wish you had this plugs on Amazon so I can get them sooner

    • @CrazedPerformanceRepair
      @CrazedPerformanceRepair  5 месяцев назад

      First of all my shipping is two-day shipping from my website so it's no slower than Amazon. Secondly you don't need the product anyway. If you did a full mechanical delete you should have the VLOM replaced with a non AFM valley cover or blocked off with the plugs in the oil towers. The bad news with your situation however, is that most likely you have a bad lifter in the cylinder seven area. Take the valve cover off and check how much oil is squirting out of the rockers when the engine is running. You should have hardly a trickle coming off of those rockers if the lifters are good. If the lifters have a hydraulic failure however it will be squirting oil a long ways possibly over the fender well. If you have that much oil squirting out, it doesn't matter how good the PCV is It can't evacuate at all correctly.

    if you using afm lifters and the vlom plug do you need to do the software update? 14 and up?

    I have a 18 Tahoe, been fine, I disable DOD around 50k miles with my tuner. The other day I jumped in the truck, everything was fine, stopped for an hour, jumped back in, started it and everything was fine, accelerated at like half throttle into traffic, heard what sounded like a slight rod knock, by the time I rolled down the windows to get a better listen, the noise stopped. No issues driving, no misses, highway, stop and go, all fine… five days later (today) same thing. Took a ride to a few stores, came home, truck sat for a few hours, jumped back in to go out, heard the noise again but not as bad. Got to where I was going. Truck say for 1.5 hours, got in to go home, no sound! Def coming from the passenger side. I know it has to be DOD related because of the common issues… what direction should I go?! I don’t want to start throwing parts at this or taking it apart if I don’t have to. Is it the direct injection pump? Is it a sticky lifter? Should I pull the intake and do whatever gasket mod you described in this video? Should I eliminate the VOM entirely?! I’ve watched three of your videos already and I see you’ve have tons of experience with different variations of this system and the issues with them. Please help with some guidance.

      That one should have DFM rather than AFM. That means it can control all 8 cylinders and no longer has a VLOM. The pushrods are an issue still so you could start there for good measure. It also would be wise to disable DFM in the tune if possible. Ask LT1swap.com about that one. As for whats causing the noise. My guess, maybe a lifter is about to blow its guts out or perhaps the oil pump is about to grenade. Most likely the lifters though.

      @@CrazedPerformanceRepair thanks a lot. Appreciate the response. It’s does have AFM confirmed by the build sheet from GM. It has an L83 5.3 in it. Oil pressure has not changed until today. I noticed it was down 1-2psi and oil is 75% until next change. Typically at cruising speed it’s always been at 40psi. No noise today so far. I did order your VLOM plug and lifter tool. I’m going to start there with the gasket mod and now you said push rods so I’ll add that to the list and see what happens from there.

      @@CrazedPerformanceRepair will do! From everything I read and watched, if I do your VLOM plug and gasket mod, leave the AFM disabled via the tune… I shouldn’t get any code and the truck should operate like it has been. By doing this, the theory is… it provides better lubrication to the lifters and making it not prone to the typical failure, right?

      @@CrazedPerformanceRepair just wanted to let you know that I got your VLOM plug last week, installed the plug and did the VLOM gasket modification. Three days into driving and 200 miles with all types of driving, haven’t heard that noise yet. I’ve tried to replicate it the same way when I heard it last week and nothing. I’m hoping I caught it in time to save the lifters (and money) and preventing a full DOD delete. I have a lot of driving the next five days so that will be the real test.

    Quick ? I Had to replace my afm lifter on 08 silverado5.3 for the 4th time in 6 years. Truck runs good except for sometimes feels sluggish but also every now and then it dies and on restart it goes to limp mode stabilitac error (usually lifter problem) and rpm dont read (sometimes with mph). but on other times it runs just fine. Would like to mention that during torqing I turnd crank clockwise a couple times. Did i mess up timing or does anyone know what's going on?

    • @CrazedPerformanceRepair
      @CrazedPerformanceRepair  2 года назад

      You might have a bad ground for the wire behind the head. It also sounds like you need to shut off AFM in the tune because you clearly don't have enough oil pressure for AFM to function properly on that lifter.
