My dad had one of these. It was our family computer until 2011 or 2012, when we finally gave up on it because of its inability to handle the new demanding Internet site designs. It would also shut off at random instances while doing tasks and simply played out its role. We have never had such a sturdy and reliable computer laptop since
Waiting for mine to arrive, bought one for $80 on eBay. Comes with everything, including a carrying case! I always wanted a proper Windows 9x laptop, and this one should do the trick just fine!
Dang that's some pretty great full range sound coming from those little guys! You got me hooked on a E500 now, looks like a pretty solid little machine
This maybe one of the best sounding laptops made. Not many manufacturers know this, but the m500 has an internal front port 2" subwoofer that actually works.
My first laptop that I got from my uncle when I was about 7 years old was a Compaq Armada E500 identical to this one. Mine has Windows XP SP1 running on it. The next laptop I had was a Dell Latitude C600.
Back in December of 1998, I got a Compaq Presario Windows 98 Pentium III desktop PC. It was awesome! It had a beautiful CRT monitor that had slots for the 2 JBL speakers it came with. And to top it all off, Compaq shipped it with a copy of the game Moto Racer! I don't remember the model number of it, but I wish I still had it.
Have an E500 with 15"screen here next to me. I booted it up last week because i needed to use it's RS232 port to drive an old Roland Pen Plotter :) 17 years old, 512MB RAM, and still fast with XP
The old trusty Compaq Armada been a while since i lanced on this machine I got mine Highschool and used it all the way to 2006 and was my primary computer during University had windows Xp running on mine To bad it died and was non savable take good care of it man
I have one of these, I've yet to do anything with it though. Still has it's factory 128MB RAM, someone upgraded it to XP SP3 - unbearable to use. I ordered 2x 256MB modules for it and was planning to reimage it with 98SE but the RAM didn't work and I never bothered to do anything more with it, lol.
I ended up getting one of these for free about 10 years back, and did a video on my old channel a few years ago. It was left behind with a laptop bag and lots of software by some shady businessman at my grandparents house. When they got in touch with him, he told them to keep it. Very strange but I don't know the full story. So it ended up coming to me. When I investigated, it looks like the RRP when new was in the thousands. I was always very annoyed with the two separate power toggles and the volume buttons on the front were very hit and miss so I used the keyboard ones instead. I messed about on it and ended up installing XP and vista transformation pack, which as you can imagine ran like absolute crap lol. In the end I put 98 back on it, with some funky driver issues, but once sorted it was the perfect machine for running old software. Some of my favorite being the galaxy of wingames 95/98 and other collections. Like you, I found the keyboard and speakers to be exemplary for a laptop of its age and class so its a great all rounder. Not got round to using mine since the power supply went pop spectacularly, but after seeing one in action again I may have to pull it out.
0:51 Try to find a genuine power adapter as soon as possible. I had one of those cheap Chinese power adapters with a vintage laptop I used to have and it got killed by that...
Want to know something funny? I have heard of the Windows 98 startup sound on a Windows XP and a Windows 98 computer. Also, I have heard the Windows 95 startup sound on a Windows 2000 and a Windows ME computer.
Wow, those speakers really do produce great sound. I'm wondering if it's using some kind of software wavetable synthesis for MIDI music playback. I don't know much about ESS sound cards, does the card actually have hardware wavetable synthesis? It certainly doesn't sound like FM synthesis to me.
Those are not any old chavs. They are a pack of Middle Eastern visitors hanging around as in any typical town center in the UK. Coming to a town near you soon. Not sure what Jay's point is.
That Microsoft Word 2000 actually starts up faster than the current Office 365 in a solid-state hard disk.

Also, it was great to be able to access the RAM easily by removing the keyboard with the 4 black toggle tabs between the top row of keys.

The donate button is on the home page of this channel
Either that or I might just get a good quality universal one.
Great video. I'm getting an Armada E500 soon. I'm also looking for an Armada 4100 for nostalgia reasons.
according to google that Fujitsu hdd is a 40gb which was a upgrade since this model usually came with like 20gb some say
HL1 was launched without acceleration, wonder if it supports it.

Was the Compaq Armada E500 the last Compaq Armada model ever? I can't find anywhere online what the last Armada model is...
retro laptops are great
Hey, I still have one too, unfortunately, the one I have had XP loaded on it and it ran like crap. My model has a CD drive instead of a DVD drive.
Ezeket a gépeket lehet telepiteni?és ha igen akkor hogyan kell?
RAM is under the keyboard, you have to unvis and turn back the plastic bars to access RAM
Sir jaise laptop ko open krte h to vo piche gir jata h uska kya kre

The E500s were probably the best windows laptops ever. They also cost a fortune at the time.
that's office 2000 not 97
Lol, I use Office 97 so much that I totally auto-polited that one. Eyes to brain didn't work.
You had one job! :P
I've noticed that there seems to be a mix of both Office 97 and 2000. I could tell from the icons.
use office 2007 or softmaker office 2012
Roberto Vega Millican does that run on windows 98?
+lmull3 could you please try windows xp on it?
It'll run...although not well if you're gonna use modern stuff on it. It's a PIII after all.
+Jacob's Channel I understand it was just an experimental idea
I could, but it's just going to be Windows XP not running very well.
lmull3 lol haha, also any major changes to the bedside computer lately?
try windows fundamentals for legacy pcs

Not sure what Jay's point is.
Why do I want one? .....
And your 'Ciao' got cut off too!
Windows 98 SE (1999)
anothr model might have them on the sides or the corners
Great computer? Did you get a voltage converter? I think he lives in the UK.
Universal voltage is a thing.
+lmull3 That's good to know. I'd love to get an Amiga 500, but I know there would be voltage issues importing one. This is a newer computer, though.
si jeni ju
nice practice pad lol
Is this laptop silent or noisy?
I'm selling one of these quite cheap if anyone is interested.
ATI gpu? Run crysis
cliquennois lothaire You have no sense of humor
Runs The Division at 666 FPS #CantTakeTheEdge
I hate the fake power supplies because I can never listen to the radio with them cause there is so much interference.
I really need to get myself a high quality universal power supply instead of using this trash, lol.
id give it windows 2000 pro or windows 2000 nt or windows me
