  • This is without a doubt the largest plant haul I've done on RUclips 🫢
    I had been coordinating a few trades, purchases, and other shipments for a few months and I feel like a part of my brain never really considered it to be real until they all showed up within the same week and now I have a bin of amazing plants I don't have space for 🤠 some of these have been on my wishlist for my whole entire life (this is an exaggeration), so needless to say I'll do whatever it takes to find them a cozy home even if it means purging or chopping other plants down!
    Huge thank you to all of my plant fairies 🥹 make sure you're following them if you aren't already -- they are linked below!

    So glad to see your Australian plants 😍 midnight velvet is a bench hybrid of Wynne @ foliage freak plants, an aroid collector in far north queensland for the last 20+ years. Midnight velvet is one of my faves, Wynne called it that because it is so dark. She also crossed it with "garden velvet" which she grows outised and her blue velvet which are stunning mixes, same with the mv x sanguinem which i have and love!!! Sang and Guatemalan or reophyte hybrids are so pretty and very popular here atm. I think the most beautiful Aus one is the bloodmoon red sinus hoffmanniii which is still out of my price range!
    Plant collector melbourne recently did a shadehouse tour of wynnes plants and its so luscious. Unfortunately in melbourne and it gets too cold a
    for velvet anthuriums outdoors but i can dream!

      Yes! It was such a great and informative video. I have quite a few plants from Wynne. One of my MVxRC lives out in room conditions in Brisbane in pon (MAB grow) with sphagnum moss on the top. after a bit of an adjustment period it’s been growing amazingly for years.

  • @kathrynrosemua
    @kathrynrosemua 3 месяца назад +1

    Yay congrats on your first Aussie Anthurium! I have MV crossed with Garden Velvet and two MV crossed with Wynnes Round Crystal.
    Mine aren’t finicky. My two MVxRC are pretty hardy. One is in pon and it tolerates a dry period but it could be all hybrid vigour. I’m also in a subtropical climate and it lives in room conditions. Went through an initial adjustment when it first came from the tropics but that was years ago.

    Hi, I used to intern at a pesticide company and let me tell you how spider mites are the bane of their existence haha. I think the problem with spider mite pesticide is once they dry out they lose efficacy. Personally misting with water everyday works, or using neem/horticultural oil which doesn’t dry out like other pesticides.

    • @horace6851
      @horace6851 3 месяца назад

      I think the soap mixture Charmaine uses works well even when dry. I don't wipe it or wash just leave it on and spider mites tend to stay away from those leaves, at least for a while. Alcohol is gone within seconds though, so that part only works on contact.

    I know this is unsolicited advice and possibly a bit late, but mixing some fluval stratum with the perlite might really help. I've been adding stratum to everything that's struggling, adding it to water when water rooting cuttings, mixing with perlite for rooting chunks, etc. It really stops the rot from spreading. I also crush it and use that powder on cuttings, instead of rooting powder.
    This was an incredible haul. 💚

    • @youdontevengrowhere
      @youdontevengrowhere  3 месяца назад +1

      This is definitely welcome advice!!! I have almost zero experience with stratum but at this point I’m desperate 🥲
      So interesting that adding it to water rooting vessels helps?!

    • @octaviana_elena
      @octaviana_elena 3 месяца назад +5

      @@youdontevengrowhere it works wonders! I used to get some rot here and there when rooting cuttings in water, now I just add a few pieces of stratum to the water and forget about them. They also root so much faster. I call it "stratum soup". As someone mentioned earlier, stratum also works amazing for alocasia corms. Just dome them, because stratum tends to dry pretty fast.

I hope they do well in my care 💚 off topic but I am a coffee lover would you ever show us how to make some coffee your way? ☕️

    Can I ask a question? I have 3 A. Pallidiflorum from Ecuagenera but they all 3 look different. One is more flat matte and the other is darker velvety green and is so pretty. The third is kinda a mix of the two. I have pics and a video of the three if you wanna see. It's just driving me crazy cuz I don't know if they are another form of a strappy anthurium or just different forms of pallidiflorum and hoping to get another set of eyes and opinion. Thank you.

    Expecting a bunch of besseae aff hybrids from ecuagenera this may. Kinda nervous. Last time I tried importing from them was 2020. Those were mostly philodendronds and I was a noob.

    Love to see your new babies. 😊If you have a high humidity terrarium, you can try to reroot the lil Carla x (Bl. Widow x Michelle) in Stratum there. That saved babies which have just a tiny lil piece of stem with a single leaf for me. ❤

    Girrrrl you’ve GOTTA do stratum for miss Jacklyn. My mother plant died (transitioned her from soil to pon too abruptly) and her children are freaking obsessed with stratum. I have not tried pon with orchiata/perlite for the corms yet, so keep us updated if you do try that!!
