My guess as to why the "Arthur's Big Hit" DVD is so rare is because the episode was so bad, and often considered the absolute worst episode of the entire show, that even the writers themselves were ashamed. I mean in the UK, they had the Complete Season 4 DVD and every episode was there, except for "Arthur's Big Hit".
Well I would assume around that time said DVD came out in June 2006 was that Sony Wonder was concluding its Arthur license and I would think there weren't very many copies printed for Arthur's Big Hit DVD and some other Sony Wonder Arthur DVD's released around 2003-2006 before WGBH Boston Video and PBS Distribution would begin releasing Arthur DVD's of their own, and some of the last Arthur VHS and DVD ever to be released by Sony Wonder including Arthur's Big Hit, You Are Arthur and Arthur's Club Rules are incredibly rare and expensive to find today.
Doing these videos has been really tricky for me that I've haven't been finding the right time to do them, but I did have two new additions: Arthur Goes Back to School DVD by PBS distribution and A Video Visit with Marc Brown: Creator of Arthur VHS by Trumpet Club (which I plan to do a full rip of).
I love arthur its my number one favorite pbskids show.
