I remember playing this in an arcade machine when I was a child with my brother at a store near home. It was cool back then. I'm glad I found this video since I could not remember the name of this game.
Glad I could help!
I swear I've seen the game as Crude Busters in arcades, pluralized with an S.
Hm... maybe that's how it was localized in Europe?
lol Im pretty sure I've seen it with an S as well. Im playing the Sega version right now on the Sega Mega Drive / Genesis classic collection which is avalible on Steam. Also missing enemies when throwing objects is not much of a problem - you can throw them while you are crouching and that way you always hit your target ;)
I did to
I have a Pro Legends Gamer system and it is indeed Crude Buster. Part of the confusion might be it's a two player game so Crude Busters is more logical.
Two Crude Dudes actually easy to beat when you know how it works. For example, in bonus stages you can destroy soda vending machine to gain 1UP. Also, you can pick up and throw anybody in this game (even bosses) - catch the enemy, throw, step back and repeat few times
Yeah, you have to mash to get that 1up! But I didn't figure out the throw and repeat trick.
@@SameNameDifferentGame Enemy AI in this game is simple and easy to manipulate. Level 1 Boss jumps pretty high and you can catch him when he lands - you just need to predict where he lands. You throw him, he jumps. You catch him, throw again, he jumps again. Level 2 Boss is easy when you realise you can confuse Big Guy constantly switching between lower and higher level and pick him up at the right moment
Loved the arcade of this spent many long nights in my university dorm playing it.! Phsycho santa yeah !😅
Yes! Love the crazy little Santa!
@@SameNameDifferentGame if i remember the arcade version santa throws bombs and goes 'phsycho santa'every now and then !
I just discovered this game on the Mega Drive, just played through it. I really like it, for the soundtrack if nothing else.
Soundtrack is pretty good!
Great vid! I actually preferred Two Crude Dudes to Bad Dudes, but its so over the top that it's great.
"Great" might be a bridge slightly too far, but the over-the-top-ness definitely makes it better than it otherwise would be!
Me too
One of my favorite Gensis games growing up
It's a unique one, for sure! Very memorable, if nothing else.
I believe this belongs to one of the first group of Mega Drive games I ever played. I remember playing it with my sister. We did better then than I do today but still couldn't get past the first level. What a day indeed. 😂
Indeed.
This must be the back story to the second boss in Double Dragon 2. He just let himself go.
Hahaha, sounds about right.
Crude Buster stage 1 background music ROCKS
No argument here.
I was lucky, I got the Wii Data East Arcade collection when it was still cheap, and the Genesis Two Crude Dudes while it too was still cheap.
It's really crazy how much that compilation goes for now.
I always lol when I see the dog chewing on the dudes nips
Me: Data East ports to home consoles during the 8 - 16 bit era are always inferior to the Arcade version
Atomic Runner on Genesis: Hold my 🍻 beer
The exception that proves the rule!
Nice job as always. I remember Two Crude in the arcades in the early 90s. It's a fun brawler. Wow I did not know that the Data East Collection for the Wii was that pricey. Data East is one of those developers that put out solid stuff under the radar.
Yeah, I didn't actually leave it in the episode, because I thought it was bit too tortured, but I initially was going to compare Data East to a Poverty Row film studio. Solid, but kind of weird, stuff that just never had enough funding to get to a level of real polish, you know?
Never heard of this game. Doesn't look like I missed too much. Sucks that the arcade collection is so expensive. Good review man!
Yeah, it's got its charms, but you didn't miss a lot. And it is a bummer that collection is so expensive, it's got a lot of fun, weird stuff on it like Sly Spy and Peter Pepper's Ice Cream Factory. And I'm glad you enjoyed it!
It’s a good game. Definitely worth a try if you haven’t played it before.
Had no idea that Wii compilation jumped in price so much! I too bought it when it was considered a new budget title. Great video, love seeing obscure stuff like this.
Yeah, crazy, right? And thanks! Glad you dig it!
When I was 11. My friend rented this game from the video store. We let his 3 year old brother hold an unplugged controller, to let him feel like he was playing the game. After that his little bro was always asking us if he could play "Tucra Dudes." 🤭
Two Crude now on GOG and Steam! 👍😎🤘
Ha, nice!
Gotta love evil dwarf Santa!!
Absolutely. And by "love," I assume you mean "pummel mercilessly."
This game is out on the switch eshop together with Bad Dudes.
It is! (But the emulation on that version isn't great.)
Good video, man! I also got the Data East Collection on Wii for $20 and until then had never heard Two Crude be referred to as Crude Buster. Sly Spy was also called Secret Agent. Weird. Anyway, I've never played the Genesis version and have had it on my wish list for years. I can't believe the difference when tossing items at enemies. What the hell were they thinking?! But visually, it looks pretty good and the music on it sounds great from the short clip you played. Watching this video has definitely instilled a new sense of urgency to pick it up before it gets even more outrageous in price.
Nice. And, yeah, I thought the same thing about Sly Spy and Crude Buster when I got the compilation. But, yeah, if you want Two Crude Dudes on Genesis, I'd say move now.
Or wait for the retro gaming bubble to burst (which it's going to).
Was called crude busters on the megadrive cart i use to have think it might of been a import though
Yeah, that was the Japanese MD title.
Good stuff man. This is one of them game you really don't see people covering. Never played this when I was a kid but really wanted it. I remember the ads being brilliantly macho in the early 90s but kinda still really the 80s way.
Yeah, I try to do that once in a while. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it turns out no one's covered it because no one cares (Image Fight, e.g.).
I've noticed Jimmy Hapa has had trouble with that where, because his games are obscure by nature, it's a real crap shoot how many views they get. Your viewer base has to be pretty huge for the obscurity of the game to not matter any more.
Definitely. It can work against you when "Obscure" is in the name of one of your shows, too. lol
Great episode ! Enjoyed it ! :D
Glad to hear! Thanks for sticking with me, man!
I find the Genesis version MUCH better than the Arcade. It has less colors ok, but the music is faster and better. I prefer the bonus stage in Genesis as well, as you fight for the coke.
"I WILL PUNCH YOU IN THE FACE FOR THAT COCA-COLA."
Joe, i like your old theme song. what is it and why does it sound so familiar?
I don’t know, but it's called "The Freshest Cat Possible" by a band called White, Wrench, Conservatory.
I got a recommendation for a future episode of Same Name, Different Game. Gauntlet and Gauntlet 2. That should be fun to sort out! Here's one hint on that. Both the NES ports of Gauntlet need to be compared to Gauntlet 2. :)
Thanks for the suggestion! That's a good one!
I've never played the Data East Arcade Classics collection, but I watched videos of it online, and I was disappointed to hear that the pitch in the music was lowered. If you compare MAME with the collection, you'll see what I mean.
Yeah, a lot of arcade compilations have less-than-perfect emulation, unfortunately.
nice video. well done.
Thank you!
What a day.
You start to hear that a lot in the higher stages.
Please do Taito's Growl/Runark
Definitely one I've considered in the past.
Better still MAMEHub or the new Retro-Arch with the online play so you can beat the game with a partner.
Legit.
Is it me or in the genesis version, the dudes walk faster than the arcade version?
Yeah, a little bit, I think.
Same Name, Different Game you have great videos and different than many other RUclipsrs. I’ve been watching some of your old stuff, since i just subscribed not too long ago. Keep it up!
@@chris30605 Thansks!
Animaniacs the name is the same but two different games
Definitely on the list!
This game suffered from cheapovacation, mask roms where still incredibly expensive the megadrive could easily done more shame. But you're right it good effort despite it short comings.
Yeah, it's a decent effort.
Nice video dude! While you're in Genesis-DataEast mood do Midnight Resistance.
I have a copy and it's definitely on the list!
Right on!
One of my favorite Genesis titles, that tune(flood of power) from stage 1 will forever be stored in my head:)
I remember thinking of this game as a double dragon ripoff. I can't remember playing it though.
Aesthetically, yeah, it kind of is, but it's not a belt scroller.
On the Stick Yeah, more like they just ripped off the IP and said to hell with it.
Yep. Though, to be fair, Double Dragon was cribbing pretty hard from the 1979 film The Warriors
What is the channels intro music?
At this time, it was "The Freshest Cat Possible" by White, Wrench, Conservatory.
Same Name, Different Game cheers! I have just discovered your channel and am watching everything!
@@djisuruperera4520 Awesome! Enjoy!
with "3D"-streets this game would have been REALLY cool
Most likely would have been an improvement!
i have the two versions but i definitly prefer the genesis version.
The game is faster, more nervous. The way the ennemies can beat you up is very frustrating in the arcade version, your character seems to have no invincibility frame.
And the game is pretty easy on genesis when you learn how to throw ennemies on the others.
Just a shame the graphics on genesis look so empty , the console is able to do a lot better
Hy u should do a video on rolling thunder 2
I should! Especially since the arcade version is on Switch now.
In russia we call this game "Punks"
That's awesome.
Hi you can asking to nintendo for inserting this game on switch the genesis version thanks!
I don't really think they'd listen to me.
@@SameNameDifferentGame thank you but johnny turbo's arcade insert this game arcade version if we ask to him for inserting the megadrive version
Looks a little sluggish but at least it's got personality!
It has that more than anything else!
I'm already subscribed to you guys!
Sweet!
Hi. I suscribe your channel. Like

This might be my first first, and it's definitely my first first in Russian!
Honestly i think this game sucks. On all platforms.
Ok
