Gotta agree, I'm definitely reminded of the Star Wars: Risk-in-name-only that was a pretty fun albeit light game. Also feels like they set out to make a light/mass-market alternative to War of Arrakis.
Risk was the the gaame that really got me into Gaming I stll have my original Risk game and bought the 40th anniversary edition. Metal pieces a little smalleer but nice. Then picked up the Star War edition because it was supose to be like Star Wars: Queens Gambit (Avalon Hill) part 2. It really was. But this looks like it could be good. Do you have a favorite version of Risk?
Is Dune that popular? I don't know many people that are into it. I read the book and have seen the old and new movies and even played the old Dune 1990s computer games. Maybe the strategy of multiple factions is good for gaming, but I can't get many people interested in games branded Dune. They think it's going to be "overdone and weird."
There are several Dune games out there right now. Dune Imperium is one of best games out there according to many reviewers, myself included. Dune: War for Arrakis a great wargame. Dune as an IP has really come into its own in gaming with the new movies. I wouldn't be surprised to see a game based on the new HBO TV show either.
I believe that the latest movies made Dune more popular then it ever was. And because of that more games have been coming out. And the fact that those games have all been really good only helps.
This sounds like a perfect IP for risk. Unfortunately, there are now too many games better then risk that have been made. This would have been perfect for the year 1984.
Being I am now 68 I find I like the simpler and faster games. I am a big Advanced Squad leader fan. But I think if were going to get into it today I probably would not. I do see your point though.
I kinda put it in the fun less complicated, easy & fast catagory like Axis & Allies, Memoir 44 etc. I guess its how you catagorize. I do it by complexity. Like I want a fun light game Memoir 44. I want something with a little more but not ASL Tide of Iron (midway) I want to play high end I go ASL.

@@MidniteCathedral It’s very much like SW Risk for sure.

@@douglaspearson4853 I’d have to think about that.
I have not played the core risk game in years. I also heard that Legacy Risk was really good as well.

Thanks for unboxing Risk: Dune!
Thank you!
Great video! How tiny is super tiny? 8mm? 10mm? Thanks
Stay tuned for the full review.
I think 1mm is super tiny. :)
Its not "the Oh-Pee" its "the awp" as in the "op" part of Mon-op-oly.
Ah! Makes sense.

It's still a fun game in 2024. Stay tuned for my full review.

I agree with Cody still a fun game. I love playing this game with my kids who want a light fast game.
