  • Aku Pema, a widely known song sang by Tsering Gyurmey, originally sang by Palgon from Amdo, Tibet.
At no point during the song do the lyrics mention the Dalai Lama. The reference to the Dalai Lama is through a nickname “Aku Pema”, which in Tibetan means Uncle Lotus."
"This song is mainly considered to be calling His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama back to his homeland in Amdo, Tibet, but this is indirect. It is "a metaphoric tribute and homage to His Holiness the Dalai Lama and how his absence from Tibet deeply affects the Tibetans in Tibet from suffering injustice, inhumanity and brutalization under the cruel and illegal Chinese occupation."
This song has become sensation around the world, and is admired by all the Tibetans inside and outside of Tibet. It has been sung by many different Tibetan artists now. Also, it has won the best lyrics award at the 2003 Tibetan Music Awards.
Sang by one of the most popular Tibetan musician in exile, none other than our King of pop Tibetan singer, Gyen Tsering Gyurmey La.
