I still have an old portable dvd player from when my oldest was little. This one looks better of course. I wouldn’t mind seeing a portable vhs I have so many old tapes I can’t watch 😂.

I agree with the sensor it should have been on the screen bezel so when flipped screen works with remote. Other 2 things this missed mark on is not being Blue Ray which most people have now and the other is why wouldn't this have bluetooth considering most people phones have gone to bluetooth only now forcing most everyone into bluetooth headphones and bluetooth speakers. Aside from these issues. I think this is a nice little unit. And would be great for those camping, RV homes, cabins, or for power outages. Considering many people now have even portable solar battery back ups. Or cars they can charge off of. Great for family to enjoy in such events and of course personal travel as well of course or personal use. Great Review and thanks for sharing. I hope you get to enjoy this unit often.

Good points, but I surmise that if it included the features you list, it would be a different unit in a different category (and more expensive). A tiny Blu-Ray player that could interface directly with a smartphone, tablet, computer, or SmartTV would be fantastic, though!

Can you use a chromecast stick and stream content on this?

No, I don't believe it has that capability.

Ah, thanks for the clarification. Since I do have Prime I can't always tell what's a special deal or not. What's the purchase price for non-Prime members, John?

@@AskDaveTaylor Currently (03/28/2024), the cost is $139.99. But there is a $10.00 off coupon. Amazon rating are not very good, IMO.

This player cannot change to 4.3 aspect ratio. Only plays in 16.9. Any videos in 4.3. Is stretched. Very annoying. I return the item twice.

Why did you return it twice? 🙂

@@AskDaveTaylor I thought it was a defect in the product, so I exchanged it for a new one. Apparently they don't make anymore portable DVD players that play movies in 4.3 format without stretching the image. You or now one else on RUclips has included this fact when reviewing these products. It would have saved me a lot of hassle if you did.

A fair point, but I'm not sure I have any DVDs that are in the 4:3 format. Given that this is the industry trend, my guess would be 16:9 is the format for almost all content nowadays.

@@AskDaveTaylorYou must not be a classic movie fan to not have any 4.3 DVD's format. You seem to be in my age range. Yes an industry standard, viewers today don't comprehend the 4.5 format. They see the black bars on the sides and think image had been cropped. So they prefer to stretch the image to 16.9 and watch the image distorted.

This is super cool if the year is 2004 but the year is 2024.

I agree completely. But in 2024 people still have DVDs and still want to watch them, and there are parents who don't want to just give their kids a tablet with unconstrained access to the Internet.

Agreed. And how useless it would be with no discs to play! 🙂
