  • Build Review: Durafly Tundra 1300mm from Hobby King
    Today I give you my review of the Durafly Tundra from Hobby King. Probably one of the simplest and easiest planes to put together and something I would recommend for a first timer.
    Flight footage will be up soon and I can tell you that this plane is one of the best out there. Well done Durafly and well done Hobby King.
    Thanks for watching. :)

    Great review as always. How do you feel about the durability of this plane from the point of view of transportation. Can it be put together at the Flying Field and taken apart again each time you go flying? how long do you think it would last? the screw holes for the wing spares etc...Regards, Pete

    great vid, would suggest keeping a piece of posterboard handy by camera for when you want to do a close up, just reac dwn grap the posterboard (or whatever is handy) and hold behind object, cam is trying to maintain focus on the back wall even with you and close up item up close, even a sheet of paper would do, just need to block out background temporarily and it will quickly refocus for closeup

    Vas, if you want a cheap but good FPV set (goggles, camera, transmitter, etc), get the Hobbyking FPV Bundle. I got mine for $99. All you need is a battery and I love it!

    The Dynam Hawksky V2 flies with a 2S 6000mah Zippy Hardcase from my Sabertooth! Usually I fly it with a 3S 2200mah Flightmax Zippy. So, don't worry about 3000mah+ for this plane. It might be impossible to hand-throw it, but on wheels the plane should have no problem to gain altitude after reaching the right speed for lift off. Flight characteristics will change of course. It'll be harder to land it and you won't be able to fly loopings at a certain weight, because it'll stall much earlier.

    Right wing of mine won't attach and am afraid forcing it too much will damage the PCB or bend the pins - how was yours? Bit disappointed.

    • @AussieRCPlayground
      @AussieRCPlayground  8 лет назад

      I do remember having one wing that was a bit harder to install than the other, but it eventually fitted fine. Try attaching the wing without the spar and then feed the spar in from the opposite side. See if that works.

    That water rudder is strange, the official pictures and videos show it with rudders attached to the floats, not the rear wheel...
    I wonder if you got an early or late version...

    VTOL? I believe it's a STOL plane, not VTOL. Do not think it has sufficient power to launch from a vertical position (handheld), but with the amount of flap throw it is certainly a short take-off or landing plane.

    • @alexfeatherstone6676
      @alexfeatherstone6676 4 года назад

      I think mine does, it has about 1.8kg of thrust on 3s, the plane weighs 1.1kg. It theoretically can do vtol.

      +Matt Holcombe I'm not getting that truck any time soon, so don't hold your breath. It's too expensive here in Australia ($1300-$1400) and way beyond my budget. Not to mention, Traxxas has just recalled the ESCs on those trucks, so probably a good thing I didn't get it right away.

    Dang Vas, you lucky guy! I have been drooling over that plane since I saw the teaser vid from HK but my budget isn't able to buy one. HK needs to have better shipping options for the U.S. they only offer the most expensive carriers here. I wish they offered shipping through our postal service the cost is half of what they offer now😟Anyhow maybe someday HK will offer better shipping choices here and I will be able to buy one, in the mean time I will watch you with yours😉 have a great day my friend.

    You didn't mention the ball links on the control horns. I purchased ball link pliers specifically for the assembly and I still had issues with making the connection without damage to the servo horn. I suspect the size of the pliers I purchased was not correct for the hardware supplied with the plane. Ball link pliers are only about $6 elsewhere but I couldn't find anything appropriate from HK. HK should offer ball link pliers as an accessory option which have been sized appropriately for this model. Also, the control horns for the plane are not offered separately, you have to purchase the whole wing if you damage the horns during assembly. Would be a good idea to offer the control horns and linkages as a separate kit. The only other issue I had was that the rudder and elevator connector labels were swapped. Otherwise it seems a great model.

      +Darcy Foster This is a video about the Tundra. I have about 400 videos on cars that you can view and there will be hundreds more in the future. Flying is a part of the RC hobby that I'm very passionate about so there will be more videos on planes in the future. Equally, there will be more videos on cars, trucks, buggies and the like, so just be patient.
