      That was the really neat part of the trip for me. Setting up in the dark and spread out through the forest, we couldn't really see what each other was doing. So it was neat to see everyone's unique setup in the morning an compare notes on what we liked and didn't like.

    Inspiring, man. Makes me excited to get out and camp in my own slice of the Northern backcountry (Gogama region). Looking forward to more videos from you guys.

    • @ExploreTheBackcountry
      @ExploreTheBackcountry  Год назад +1

      Love that region, not too far a drive south for me considering. That's pretty close to where we were on this one (west of the watershed). We've been opening up lost routes in the Sakatawi over the last few years (have a video on deck form last summer). Lot's to explore there!

    • @ashenoracle
      @ashenoracle Год назад

      @@ExploreTheBackcountry I'm down in Onaping Falls area, actually. Nice stuff around here, but driving past Cartier and up towards Gogama / Sultan Industrial is amazing backcountry. I haven't had enough opportunity to explore yet, I'm still very new to the area, but your video of the Tatachikapika definitely makes that a route to explore. Same with the Sakatawi and a few other areas. It kind of boggles the mind the available places close by that no one ever explores, preferring Temagami or Algonquin.

    • @ExploreTheBackcountry
      @ExploreTheBackcountry  Год назад +1

      @@ashenoracle yeah, you're in a good spot to explore! There's a ton of great route options off 144. Have at least 2 more vids from last year of routes in the area to put up, so maybe more ideas for you too! Very few people compared to the Algonquin-Temagami area etc. It's some of my favourite scenery too.
      The Tata is a great spring run! Good intro to intermediate whitewater. Don't attempt in July onward or you'll be doing a lot more walking. The fall flush is sometimes a good option though.

    • @ashenoracle
      @ashenoracle Год назад

      @@ExploreTheBackcountry it's incredible beauty. Looking forward to those videos, wondering if there's any overlap in some of the "less used" routes I'm hoping to check out and clean up this year.
      I'm hoping to do the Tata in early June to avoid needing a dry suit. Going to be cautious and careful, solo whitewater is something I'm learning!

    • @ExploreTheBackcountry
      @ExploreTheBackcountry  Год назад

      Thanks Kevin! For sure, shelter from the wind was our priority. It switched directions 3 times so we made sure we were far enough in the woods to avoid it. As picturesque as camping by the ice is, the windchill down by the lake was just nasty!

    As u we’re coming in at the end of ur trip ur first man in red plaid shirt had a milk crate on his sled, but as u we’re coming off the lake it was no longer there, what happened to it ?????

      We found it stashed by the shore on our way in. We assumed a local trapper had been using it as it was by an old boat cache and traps. We just used it as a seat for the weekend and returned it on the way out.
