Here's my thoughts. Sungjin's voice is more rough and melodic but fragile - not powerful enough, powerful belongs to YoungK and Jae. Wonpil's angelic and soft. And yeah, dowoon is a badum tss bad ass drum slayer.
It is still amaze me how can those four distinct voices, that are completely different with each other, can still harmonise and sounds soooo good together. As the famous music critic, Kim Youngdae said, "bfr being a band, Day6 themselves are an outstanding vocal group. Each member’s voice is great & when they sing the melody you can trust them and trust that voice" Also, when other idol that trained with Day6 also said that it is so unfair that the best jype trainees in vocal department got put into one group. It feels so funny but it kinda boost my myday ego too tbh 😂😂

It's always irked me that some fans need to make him "main vocalist", like why is his drumming not enough for you??? They act like only being a drummer would be a bad thing. Like it wouldn't be "enough".
This is one of the reasons Day6's songs are so dynamic. With their different vocal style, each section feels new/different even though it's the same melody or vocal lines. And also one of those rare moments we get to hear their harmonies. Oh lord, it was golden. If I remember correctly, Kino from Pentagon, who was once a JYP trainee, said that even among trainee that time, Day6 are known to be the Vocal Wang / Vocal Kings, you can definitely see why. And then of course next he mention back then YoungK was dancing to Usher's DJ got us falling in love ㅋㅋㅋ
Sungjin and wonpil's voices are easy to recognize. I got confused with Jae and Young K's voices. After listening to their songs I just felt that Jae's voice is more flirty and for young K's voice is like a chameleon, his vocal range is unbelievable. Dowoon's voice is a treat. It's difficult to sing while playing drums. So I always love and enjoy if I hear Dowoon's singing. I'm currently swaying my 16 year old daughter to stan day6. She is missing so much of her life not knowing these wonderful boys.
With the flexibility of having 4 main vocalists and 1 vocalist, I also think DAY6 has made great decisions for their vocal arrangements! They really know how to determine who sings what part to evoke a certain feeling and atmosphere which I think comes from their different vocal textures and how each of their voices seem to have a “weight” to them. I think they balance and contrast those “weights” really well in their songs
*Flashback to them saying they decided on parts by playing rock, paper, scissors* ✋👁️👄👁️ lmao all jokes aside, I agree! Every song and their versatility in presentation, (the live performances videos are glorious and I miss ot5) they never fail to take my breath away!🥺💞✨

Still upset that JYP changed the lyrics of Chocolate ;( The original lyrics that Jae and Wonpil made implies that even when chocolate melts and appearances change over time, the heart doesn't. JYP changed it to imply that chocolate is sweet like love, but he just took the genius lyrics that Jae and Wonpil made and gave it less meaning..
I thought the same too! But it's probably because the song was for the web-drama.... If they were just gonna put song in their album they I'm guessing they would've kept the original lyrics but they needed to match the theme so... :(
Just for context, it was the first and only co-written song by wonpil, jae, and jyp, and also their first project with jyp. I remember them being honored and so excited talking about it and I'm sure they also got to learn some things from him. In the end, the song turned out great anyway :)
This is just my opinion, Dowoon doesn't really need to sing much. He is a very advanced skilled drummer!! That's really an important role in a band. I watch some reaction of musicians and drummer that heard day6's music, they are always praising the drums sound!! Let Dowoon show off his main talent as well. Thats more than enough!😁

THIS! Honestly, 'kpop' fans are so used to having kpop groups whereby normally all members have parts but in band world, not all sing. Some more, it's usually only one main vocalist, 1-2 sub vocals, and rest dont sing. Sometimes i feel bad for Dowoon because some people keep wanting him to sing/have lines. Yes, it's good if he has lines, but it's also okay if he doesn't. It has been 7 years and he keep improving his drum skills and not showing that much interest/greed to sing(which is totally fine, because he is a drummer and they are a BAND) So let's pay more attention to his real passion and his drum skills that have grown so much through these years. He didn't upload all those drum practices and covers just to hear fan/casual listener asking 'Why Dowoon doesn't sing?' Or 'When will Dowoon sing?' Of course, like Sungjin said, they have five vocalists, but it doesn't mean we have to push him to sing, let him do what's comfortable for him and applause him more for his drumming skills.
I listen to Day6 playlist every single day without fail but I still fail to realise that each of them actually sing the the same part at the chorus in many of their songs as pointed out in the video. Not sure if it was intended or not, but genius, I really like it, it makes the overall songs seamlessly more colourful with their individual’s character. None outshined each other and I really love it that way. I didn’t know I am still able to like Day6 more than I already have. Thanks Wonpilates and other Myday who realised this, for sharing this aspect of Day6!
personally, i LOVE jae's voice. but i also love all of them; but i dont get tired listening to Jae's voice. honestly though, all of them have really unique voices and they make a perfect band. that's why my heart ached for a month when Jae left the band (the pain is worse than breakup)

I have always had a thing for raspy and raw voices, so it's Sungjin for me. But really, they all each bring different color with their voices, at the end, it just makes their songs more beautiful. So glad to have our talented 4 vocalists.

One cannot simply like just one vocalist out of day6. They all have very unique timbre's and each of their voices suit different sections of songs the best. I don't think I can choose any one of them as the preferred/favourite vocalist.

That's why the first time I knew Day6 I don't have a bias, and after religiously listen to them for 1 month and decide that Sungjin is my ultimate bias. Since March 2020 I listen to their songs almost everyday
no one can deny that they all are great vocalists! (and instrunent players of course). all their voices are different but they compliment each other so well

i think my fav voices are Young K and Jae. Young K has that growl that he gets in his voice but also a beautiful falsetto and I love Jae's smoother tone

One cannot simply like just one vocalist out of day6.
They all have very unique timbre's and each of their voices suit different sections of songs the best. I don't think I can choose any one of them as the preferred/favourite vocalist.

That's why the first time I knew Day6 I don't have a bias, and after religiously listen to them for 1 month and decide that Sungjin is my ultimate bias. Since March 2020 I listen to their songs almost everyday
Their voices are so good n distinct..it's like each of them have their own unique voice...

no one can deny that they all are great vocalists! (and instrunent players of course). all their voices are different but they compliment each other so well
the things i would give to go to a day6 concert, istg, whenever a ot5 concert in announced, I NEED to take tickets, im just hoping it will be in europe :(

i think my fav voices are Young K and Jae. Young K has that growl that he gets in his voice but also a beautiful falsetto and I love Jae's smoother tone

Dowoon is technically a vocalist too he does sing a bit like you can hear him in Dance Dance, So This Is Love and Love Parade. God I miss these guys so much, at least we’re getting Young K’s solo in 6 days as when I’m writing this. About a year now until Sungjin returns from the army.
