Sonam Dorji, affectionately known as "Bull," is a leader who exemplifies resilience, determination, and compassion. His journey to becoming the Gup of Kabjisa Gewog in Punakha Dzongkhag was not an easy one, as he faced and overcame numerous challenges along the way.
For Sonam Dorji, success did not come easily or quickly. It took him four courageous attempts before he finally secured the trust and support of the people in his Gewog. Through unwavering determination and a deep connection with his community, he persevered, learning from each setback and growing stronger with every try.
When Sonam Dorji was finally given the opportunity to serve as Gup, he didn't rest on his laurels. He went on to win the trust and confidence of all the elected leaders in the local government of the Dzongkhag, earning him the esteemed position of Thrizin, or Chairman, of the Dzongkhag Tshogdu.
But Sonam Dorji's story of leadership doesn't end there. In a remarkable display of integrity and selflessness, he made a decision that shocked and inspired his Gewog, Punakha Dzongkhag, and the entire nation. Despite being entitled to allowances and benefits associated with his position, he chose to reject them all, except for his monthly salary. His motivation was clear - he believed that his salary alone was more than sufficient to support his family, and any additional perks were unnecessary.
