I was so confused on why my cue'd tracks were playing over of the master to my audience (the dog). duh..deactivate the channel while cueing or mind blow..turn the volume down. I have open tickets with Abelton and NI of me whining. I'll refer them to your videos. super helpful
I've been trying to find a way to create a headphone monitor for myself (Drummer in a 4 piece band) and this looks exactly what I want! Thank you I'm going to try this soon
I thought part of cue you are discussing is how you program the words intro, verse one, verse two, chorus, bridge, repeat chorus, guitar solo, ending four bars. Something like that. This is what I was looking for about cues. But thanks for your lessons.
Great job on the video`s and whole channel. I`m picking up recording and preforming again. and started two different channels to work from here on the tube. I`m using your channel along the way to help build. Super useful stuff. I started with daw back at live 5 whenever that was... oh the hours ,months and years I spent fumbling around figuring it out without you. Your making picking it up again much much... FUNNER!!! THANK YOU, YOUR AWESOME! p,s, " Ableton" you awesome too!
Very good video! Especially regarding the second point you were talking about: I would highly recommend getting an audio interface that allows you to create seperate mixes externally. That way you can use ableton as a performance tool only and dont have to worry about accidentally messing with the sends/returns of your bandmates (that happened to me before :D...). But I still love the fact that ableton lets you do this. Its a great way to learn the concept of routings, busses, returns etc. Keep up the good work.
Wow!! This tutorial is exactly what I was looking for. Protools people: that's the one about routing output professionally ! lol Thank you a lot! I just started a new world with push 2 and live and i'm learning a lot with you!!
Hello LNA ... I love your channel so much ... I have the technical question for you, hopefully you can help me. I am using cue output with an UAD apollo x4 interface and this one allow me to use two headphones outputs, so in this case I am sending the main mixe for headphone 1 and the cue for headphones 2. the point is that I only can hear the sends like reverb and delay (knobs A and B) for the main mixe and for cue output NOOO and I'm getting crazy. So I need to know if is it possible to hear the sends in the cue output as well. best regards 👾
Great video. Thank you for clarifying the capabilities of the cue function! I had only been using it to audition sounds and adjust the click volume. First video of yours I've seen. You are very funny and smart! Rather attractive as well! Subbed!!
thank you:))i really love your stuff. ``and i just ordered those same glasses on amazon just becuase i love your teaching and your style as an artist and so much respect :)
Thanks. But what if you want to simulate a dj live situation. I mean, you want both the main speakers and the headphone speakers to play the music, But at certain times, you decide to preview upcoming tracks only in the headphone speakers .. And then, when you leave that mode, the live audio continues to play again from the headphone speakers (as well as the main speakers): I don't see this being possible with Cue out, because the 'cue out' will only play the previewed sounds, but not the main audio ...
you can listen to a whole channel. lets say you create channel 1 for track a and channel 2 for track b, you go through the same process she did except for you will need more than 2 outputs, so having a 4 outputs interface i think would be the solution. You set the output 3 and 4 for cue out and 1 and 2 for master out and only press on the solo/cue blue button to choose what you want to listen to. Maybe im wrong but that is what I understood )
Thank You for the video (Y) I have a problem if you can help me :) when i recording guitar sound, Ableton record any sound from cue out like metronome :/
Thank you so much for this video! I have the same interface with 2 outputs and this cleared the doubt I had. However, I have one more question. How do I set up the output for the audience? Kindly excuse me if this is silly, but it would be of great help if you can answer it.
Happy the video helped! If you performe live and wanna performni in stereo you need to have an interface with more outputs. With this interface you would need to perform in mono, which is not ideal :)
What I’m wondering is is it possible for a singer recording vocals to have a headphone mix with compression and reverb on the vocal without actually recording the vocal track with compression/reverb on it?😮 Would you just put those effects on the return track you created?
What if i just want to listen to what i make on both right & left side of the headphones. Im not to worried about letting my "audience hear" for now just me in general. Hope that question makes since😂
Good video but I was wondering, so with the 212 interface you can't separate the headphones from the monitors? For example hear the click on the left headphone and what the audience hears in the right headphone and the two monitors (all adjusting with the 212 Focusrite)? Would we need more outputs then to be able to do that? Thank you !
Thanks :) so as 2i2 has two outputs we can separate the headphones and one speaker (making the output mono). To keep it stereo, you need more outputs :)
Thanks for the video, I got it but still have a question you might be able to help me out. I got a Blasker K3+ Sound interface basically same options than the 2i2 you got but my issue is that when I set the cue and start playing I can listen on my Headphones but it also sounds on the speakers at the same time, I wanna just listed the headphones, any insights?
Yes it is you output settings. You need to select the ”cue out” and ”master out” to cerparate output channels. I show this on the video, and explaing why it different when u only have 2 output channels :)
Mam while recording microphone also captures headphone's sound which destroys my whole recording if I down the volume of headphone then I feel hearing issue but if I increase volume then mic starts receiving headphone's sound 😑😑😑
hi, could you show us how to hear only on the headphone while recording? every time I tried to record vocal or guitar I have to go and unplug the big monitor's speaker to avoid echo.cheers mate

If you are looking for a cheap way to add a cue output you can get a pair of cheap usb headphones and your DAW will see them as additional outputs.
Cool 🙌
How can I hear the monitor-mix AND the click on both ears?

hi, could you show us how to hear only on the headphone while recording? every time I tried to record vocal or guitar I have to go and unplug the big monitor's speaker to avoid echo.cheers mate
Your interface should have to volumes: one for montors and one for headphones. Then when recordong just turn off the main one :)
LNA Does Audio Stuff it’s focusrite scarlet 6i6 it’s got two volumes though
That's a really helpfull tutorial BUT I have the problem that the sound cue sound is also audible on the left speaker , so I have sound on my left headphone as well as on the the left speaker. Sounds like you only have two outputs. To have cue and stereo speakers separate you need to have more outouts than 2 :)

Well glad you are here now!
my solo /cue buttons pernamently greyed out but everyrhing else generally works
how to control or arm different tracks headphone icon on or off from push 2 ?
You can always macro map it in the "user" mode if you wish :)
So you actually play the set in mono?
Depends on how many outputs are handy :)
i don't understand it. When i hear the metronom out of my monitors, the audiens will hear it to. How can they not hear it?
you need to use the Cue and the output selection. All is in the video :)
