    Great insight. Personally came from a legal background, went into some small legal assistant roles then eventually into info compliance audit -> records manager -> DPO. There's lots of growth opportunities in the public sector in particular.

      @moniquegordon9812 Absolutely 100% if you want to follow a similar path to DPO role. Highly recommend doing the IAPP CIPP/E cert alongside the above - especially when it comes to applying for the DPO role itself. Not mandatory at all but a very desirable cert in this field and will help a lot.

      @@KirkpatrickSounds What country do you work in? I am finishing law school, I am South American but also EU citizen. I want to find a job in Europe and I wonder if CIPP/E would be good enough to get me an entry level job in the industry.

      @KirkpatrickSounds 7 месяцев назад

      @LimeeSlime I'm based in the UK myself. CIPP/E would be more than enough, so definitely go for it if that's what you want to do! Good luck.

    Great video. I started working in data protection just over a year ago coming from a legal background. Started as a DP Assistant with a large company and now work as a DP manager in the public sector. Completely agree that the best thing to do is to listen to, and learn from, those around you doing the job. I do want to progress onto one of the DP qualifications mentioned in the future, is there a preferred one or do they both carry equivalent weight in your opinion?

      Thank you! That’s amazing, so good to hear you’ve started your journey. Having a legal background is always going to be beneficial as well! Qualifications are very much personal choice. The CIPP/E is very well known and recognised but for many, the BCS is technically more challenging and arguably better. Both courses are great for the CV and future roles though

    Great video! I am from Turkey and working as an in-house data protection lawyer in a global company where located all over the world. I would like to work in Europe but do not sure how to go forward. Is there any eligibility requirement that registration in a relevant countries’ bar for instance? Where should I start to enhance my knowledge? Is is enough to get certificate from CIPP/EU or is there any different recommendation for aliens? I will also consider to transfer to Europe within my company but still some questions as I’ve asked… Many thanks in advance for your reply!

    • @iSTORMDiaries
      @iSTORMDiaries  2 года назад

      There is no eligibility requirement as such. You need to have a clear understanding of the GDPR of course and if you want to practice in a certain country, then understanding their local laws is key. The CIPP/E is well recognized by employers now and will make you more appealing as a candidate! Good luck!

    Great video... Please do you think someone without a legal background can function properly as a Data Protection Officer even after sitting for the CIPP/E exam?

    • @iSTORMDiaries
      @iSTORMDiaries  4 месяца назад

      Absolutely. A good DPO doesn’t need to be a lawyer; they do need to understand the local nuances of law though. Being a DPO requires a wide range of skills and knowledge. Sometimes not being a lawyer can be an advantage in terms of practical advice and guidance, sometimes being a lawyer has its advantages but neither should take the role exclusively

    Hi I am from technical background can I do this data privacy career?

    • @iSTORMDiaries
      @iSTORMDiaries  3 года назад +1

      Of course, if you come from an IT background then understanding ISO27001 and risk can help you start to transfer your knowledge to privacy. If you have a privacy team in your current business, talk to them, ask if you can shadow them or be involved in DPIA's and work from there.
