Gary is correct about the intact bulls horns pointing forward and down. A steers horns will grow up like the cows but not as far outwards.
Chad, Commissioner Gordon should get one of your T-Shirts...if you know any firemen, talk to them about the trash pumps...in fact, you could offer the fire department an opportunity to train on " Water Recovery Training" for the volunteers...our FD is all volunteers and
they welcome different venues to train at and test the equipment...do it before the snakes start to emerge❤️... Cheers from Maine.
We have similar here in the UK- our fire and Rescue are the same people and they have some specialists in water recovery, since locally we have a very low lying land, and loads of huge drainage ditches (river sized) they are always interested in venues for training, as well as winching out cows and horses, and generally sharing expertise with local landowners - in a pinch, a nice big pond can even be a resource during wildfires
They might even be upgrading a pump and happy to sell you secondhand?

YES! As someone who has been involved with my local volunteer fire department since I was very little…that sounds like a fantastic idea! Most volunteer departments will jump at such *free* training opportunities. Also Chad could included them in his video (if they want) for some free publicity! Let them say where & how the community they serve can help & support them.
Our volunteer firemen are the same. What would our world be without volunteers.

If you're going to use a pump to pump out your pond, advise that you put a screen over the end of the inlet hose, that way you don't run a chance of pulling trash through the pump. Or you could use a 5-gallon bucket with quarter-inch holes drilled all around it, leave the top on the and cut a round hole in the top just big enough to slip the end of the inlet hose through it and submerge the entire thing, but be warned, sometimes you will have to clean the outside of the bucket off or clean the screen off one.

You might want to call whoever marks the utilities before you dig, so you know where they are . Here in Michigan they call it Miss Dig. I remember they had something similar in Illinois as well, but with a different name. Here we are supposed to call several days before we expect to start digging to give all the utilities the chance to either spray paint or put out little marker flags for buried lines.

100% agree! Hope your health issues improve❤ Slowly recovering from the increased joint pain & a 3 day migraine caused by the recent storm front that went through myself. Also was told this week I will need knee surgery…possibly major reconstructive like I had on my other knee. And that surgery on my other knee was really rough at age 17…not looking forward to it at age 40!!😣😕 Husband is literally just 1 month out from having had knee surgery…on the same knee. He was also just diagnosed with Lupus. So yea…that’s how 2023 is starting for us.😕 Was hoping 2023 would be better than 2022…but not looking like that’s the case so far. So videos like this are a VERY welcome distraction!

County came out and cleaned the ditches on my road. My house sits on the top of a ridge and instead of grading down the ridge, they dug all the ditches at the same level. I now have the deepest ditch on the road (4 1/2 feet deep)! Insane!

@Angel love Arizona. Sure miss it. We lived up in Prescott, was amazing. Had to move back to hometown in midwest ,after hubby died. Had only been out there for year and a half so going back to family seemed a good move. It was but even after 20 years I still wish I would have stayed much longer.
I had to stop and replay Adler's reaction to the crawdad for my Mom! Stinkin hilarious! I thought you were gonna leave the ditch alone until the pond was done so it would fill faster? On our farm the KD's like to lay their eggs on stones at the south end of our driveway.. every time we have to detour around their nesting site. They pair up not long after coming here...love their voices and faking-injury dances.

get some decommissioned firehose pieces! the longer the better! stretch out several across the dam. fill each with water , tie a heavy weight to the intake end & place as deep as you can. then go to the discharge end & let the water flow. The siphon action will drain the pond without pump, fuel, or electricity.

Chad I love watching you, your family, and all the animals. I wish my husband was as easy to talk into getting chickens and other animals. We have 20 acres here and it is mostly wooded, at least the area our house is on is cleared. Have fun finding that culvert and playing in the ditches. Tessie's new boyfriend looks like he can handle her. There are probably a couple of older boss cows in the herd that will quickly put the new girl in her place. 💖😉💖

We were at the bottom of a big hill so we got the neighbors runoff too. But we had greener grass. If course that means we cut the grass every other day. That grass grew FAST!! 🤣😂🤣

I am a farmers daughter, a single parent (my kids around 30 now 😍), a swimteacher and a preeschool teacher among other things. My thoughts on your pond is that you can teach the kids to have respect for it but also be a friend to it. I mean, as you say getting scared when something happens the worst. My dad taught as to canoe in our pond, falling off it and try to get in it again. All when dad was there. But his thoughts, and mine too, was to prepare us from things that could happen in spite of e fence. I have always felt that getting to be safe in all sorts of water I needed to level up and take responsibility to educate my kids the best way I knew how. I know you didnt ask for any advice, I am only sharing my thoughts and I am sure you know what is best for your boys 😍💖
