    absolutely love recording with my apollo solo, i've had all sorts of interfaces and multiple computers over the past 20 years to try and record at home but they have ALL always had issues with clicking and popping in recordings, horrible latency or suddenly just messing up in the middle of a project and ruining any momentum i might have , since i got the apollo on my m2 mac mini it's been like another world, i just wish i'd got something like that sooner instead of wasting time and money on that other rubbish ! (Not that there aren't other good ones available! the neumann mt48 for example looks incredible but it's quite expensive for a peasant like me)

    Kind of curious about how much your bass guitar determines the shape of your tone.…ie jazz bass vs P bass. Etc
    I thought the tone you dialed in was a very good one. I have a Jazz bass, love the way it feels, but I find it a little thinner in tone than I like. Just wondering is there a way to fatten the sound, or am I just stuck with what I got. Btw I have the Apollo x8, I have used the legacy version of the Ampeg, and I have the Galilean Krueger plug. Thanks! Great video.

      Thank you tabodee. Your bass does make a difference. I'm using my G&L here. Pretty unique sound. I can get a cutting hi end and a good low end. My P bass has a better low end and records very well naturally. I just got a J bass and recorded with it today and I'm happy with the roundness. You can roll off the bridge pickup a little on your J. Pretend your studio speakers are your bass amp when dialing in your sound. Helps. .

    I’ve tried the SVT software, and honestly… I get my best sound using a sansamp paradriver for my bridge pickup, and the neck pickup plugged straight in… no amp software. I find all of it to be glitchy and sounding real static like, plus I get too much feedback. And watching this…. that is WAAAY too complicated just to record your bass. Especially for having such a basic sound that is easy to get using just an amplifier

    • @JerryCherryBand
      @JerryCherryBand  7 дней назад +1

      I totally get it. I will say that if you're use to this work flow, its very easy to record bass this way. In my studio apt in NY I don't think I can get away with using a bass amp. I do like the Sansamp. Thanks for the comment 🎸

      @ recording is something that I’m very new to, and it is so far the hardest thing I’ve tried to learn on my own. Learning and instrument and playing it is easy… it’s capturing them as they are being played that’s hard.
      One must first learn how to use a DAW. That, alone, is something… people attend actual schools just to learn how to use pro tools. And here, I cannot figure out GarageBand for the life of me, let alone attempt to use pro tools
      So far I have been having some success with AUM for the iPad. The disadvantage with it is 1) recording using an iPad kills the battery in no time. And 2) recording as WAV files, it takes up so much memory, it’s unreal

    Hi Jerry, so you plug it in the Hi-Z input, or would it work as well in a line input? I’m ising a apollo 8xp, and for a variety of reasons using the inputs in the back would be waaier for me

    • @JerryCherryBand
      @JerryCherryBand  2 года назад +1

      Hi. I'm plugging into the front of the Apollo Twin with 1/4". There it's using its Unison Technology, matching the impedance between my bass, the hardware, and plugins. I don't have to adjust any input levels on the Apollo Twin. I just tweak the plugin a little bit. I believe I can turn that off from the front input if I want but I don't. I believe that the Apollo xp8 that you have has all unison inputs on the back. That should be great for you if thats where you need to plug in. I think the unison inputs are what make the UA stuff work and sound great. I think with the Unison tech it doesn't matter if it's hi or low input. It's going to match whatever it is. Hope that helped. Thanx for asking.

    • @WeirdWolves
      @WeirdWolves 2 года назад +1

      Thank you for your reply. So I tried to A/B my bass on a front input (Hi-Z) and a back input (Line), both with a Manly Voxbox on the preamp slot, and the results were unexpected:
      The Hi-Z is louder for sure, but I can match the loudness with the Line by bumping the input a litle higher. Once at the same level, the line sounds better to my ears (more low end), so I’m really puzzled. Manley Voxbox is unison, so I assume the unison part works both on a line input or a Hi-Z input. Anyway, I’m confused by the results

    • @JerryCherryBand
      @JerryCherryBand  2 года назад

      @@WeirdWolves Great comment. Makes a lot of sense. The line level is going to give you a little lower level than Hi-Z as you pointed out. Why it sounds different I don't know. I've heard people say that it sounds better without using unison. That it's less harsh on the high end. I'm not even sure that you're using Unison by plugging into the back. I know the Mic XLR's are, the inner 1/4" may not be. Have to find out.

    Hi, would it be good idea to use a DI box between the bass and the interface's input? Thanks!

    • @JerryCherryBand
      @JerryCherryBand  3 года назад +1

      Hi Geo. Thanx for the question. I would not use a DI. There's no need to. Most interfaces will read the impedance and you set the input gain. With the UA Apollo I'm using here, in the unison slot it automatically sets your impedance. That's the magic of it. Hope this help. Thanks.

    Does it work without preamp?

    • @JerryCherryBand
      @JerryCherryBand  3 года назад +2

      Hi Wallam. Thank you for the question. I will say yes. If you're using the Universal Audio interface you have unison technology input slots. I open this Ampeg plugin in a unison slot. It's like it has a preamp built into it. There are times I'll open a preamp instead of the Ampeg plugin for other uses besides bass that I want a preamp. In a sense this plugin opened in the unison slot acts as a preamp too. You don't need any outboard preamps either before the input. Hope this answer helped. Even if you choose not to have the input set to unison you don't need a preamp. You just have to manually set the input gain.
