"Not An Appropriate Thing For Our Prime Minister To Say!" Rishi Sunak Calls UK 'Sick Note Britain'

  • GPs will soon be stripped of the ability to sign people off work as part of a major government initiative to crack down on ‘sicknote culture’.
Rishi Sunak today claimed that a surge in people signed off sick with mental health conditions is placing ‘unsustainable’ pressure on the welfare budget.
Delivering a speech on welfare reform, the Prime Minister said people should avoid ‘over-medicalising the everyday challenges and worries of life,’ pointing the finger at people struggling with depression and anxiety.
Mr Sunak said ‘something has gone wrong’ since the pandemic to increase the number of people signed off work for long-term sickness, especially those with mental health conditions.
TalkTV's Ian Collins is joined by behavioural psychologist Jo Hemmings. who says kids need to be taught the difference between mental health issues and “normal stress and anxiety.”
Jo says: “There aren’t the resources out there to explain it to people, so they feel they can’t work when they probably could.”

@@paulnew8745 His own people come into this country seeking work and have the privelege therefore of paying taxes. Those from the indian subcontinent are coming in the droves to do work that the Europeans have been doing since the EU formation that the caucasian british population shirk from. Now because of Brexit, the fantastically highly skilled, hardworking and conscientous Europeans have left in the droves back to Europe, who takes their place ? The British still don't want to do these jobs even though they were so mad at their european cousins for grabbing all their jobs. Therefore to fill these vacancies those from the Indian subcontinet are now grabbing them. As a consequence instead of having more caucasians in Britain, there are far more Asians coming in because of Brexit. Those who voted out for Brexit were certainly very short sighted. I recall some of my friends from India who voted out as well. I thought that was very curious that they did. their rationale for doing so was because if the Europeans left, then more Indians could come in to take their place. I guess that's why somer people are more successful because they are not short sighted. the look at longterm implications of their actions. Also if you audit the asylum seekers/ illegal immigrants coming in, you will find the majority are from middle eastern, sub saharan regions where terrorist activity is rife. While some of them open small eating bussiness, the local benefits population will have to share their benefits pot with them.

Pumped money into the welfare system..... Tell me again why there is £23 billion in unclaimed bemefits then. It seems pointless for ut too be " Pumped into " unless it's going to start actually going to those who have clearly fallen through the safety net and do not claim at all. Question, if the DWP know have these figures, surely there should be some kind of automatic enrolment system that would overhaul claimants not claiming because of stigma or what have you? I've never really understood why it isn't the DWP's responsibility to make sure our own citizens get exactly what they are entitled to? But, let me guess, the unclaimed benefits are being paid to Tory MP's in the guise of bonuses. Tell you what, why have eating disorders went up ten fold here? Especially in kids. 1.5 million kids have eating disorders and nothing is even dome about it by the government or NHS. Being sent home because they are not malnourished enough..... absolute madness. It's about high time that the government and DWP stop accusing people of not claiming when in fact they don't want people to claim or they'd take up the idea of automatically enrolling every person of age who isn't working/worling for low pay into the system. That way no one goes unclaimed or unchecked in terms of their social security. It's an absolute atrocity that this island puts illegals before any of our own and remember, most brits are only one last paycheck away from being in that same situation. Come on eh! This is supposed to Great Britain. Doesn't look so great with the particular issues i just raised. It's a disgrace to us. It's a disgrace to our people. It's an international disgrace coming to think of it. How any other country around the world take our government seriously is beyond me. Finland even managed to sort out the homeless problem they suffered. But No, No! The " supposed " Great Britain can't even match little old Finland in terms of that issue. Let alone help our most vulnerable. Absolutely pathetic when you take into consideration that we are supposed to be a 1st world island. More like the pits of the sewers.

That's why so many people who have their claim denied don't bother contesting it, or else they end up going to tribunal (which costs the govt more money!).

Clinical anxiety is crippling to the point of becoming agoraphobic.
Especially for those of us who are also neurodivergent.
I worked for years, and my husband worked for over 52 years before he retired.
I had to retire in my late 30's due to chronic osteoarthritis and osteoporosis, which I was predisposed to.
I don't enjoy being in chronic pain.
The welfare state was created for those like myself and others , who, through no fault of their own, are unable to work.

This is completely unsustainable, especially for a welfare state with a publicly funded healthcare system.

A doctor should make these decisions otherwise you might as well just get a ticket at a supermarket to apply. which is practically the system now as she points out. A complete stranger acting as a gp with no knowledge of their meical history makes this decision in the span of a 5 minute conversation. I also feel bad companies, bad management and poor pay play a part in some people getting depressed at work. Zero hour contracts should be banned. Recruitment agencies should be regulated. Workers should get more rights. That would reduce the numbers by 600,00 already.

Not working therefore not contributing through taxes and 3. Claiming sick benefits that they don't qualify for. It is simply unsustainable.

Perhaps we seriously need to look at assisted dying. I use to be against it, but now i am getting older i would rather die than live a life where i was a burden to the state, and if the cost of social care is so high. , assisted dying would free up housing, nhs care and disability benefit payments. This should ease alot of the problems.
