Good morning fellas! Kenny is a mean dude on the ‘mean green machine.’ Kenny….the best way of doing anything is the way you like to do it yourself! Yes, we ‘back seat drivers’ love to comment…..and as you know we always know best 😀! It’s all a bit of fun anyway….and we ‘passengers’ love it! On a more serious note! Many years ago I was working west out of Denver, on continental divide, at Berthoud pass! This one day it must have been about 5 below. We were out in the yard with our loader driver (Harry Blantz) loading steel for the shaft (mine). Old Harry lowered his forks onto the ground, taking some of the weight of the loader….and suddenly both forks snapped like carrots! I assume it was because of the prolonged cold weather up there (11, 300ft above sea level). Those forks of yours seem to be extra long, so be warned! There ends my ‘expert advice’ 😊. Anyways, keep up the good work….as Sinatra used to say……”I did it my way.” And why not ah! Len (Devon 🇬🇧)
I like Kenny’s system, moving the logs to a central location then bucking and splitting into the tractor bucket. Fewer touches equals more efficiency! GNI 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I know this may sound crazy but I can tell it is cold by the sound of your foot steps in the snow. I was stationed in Alaska for three years in the early 90's.
Put some heat on it "Ken" with a Touch. You guys Love the Cold, I'm a Fare Weather Guy myself. Too Cold for this Old Guy. I like to watch you work, I had my share of working in the Cold. Where's Scheib or that Back 40 guy when you need them.🤣 its time to get by the 🔥🔥and get warm. That Ken is a Worker and he don't Baby👶his tractor Chris. Ken know how to move wood around. Great Video Chris and Ken !
Might need to talk Kenny into a 3rd function valve and a grapple. Legend has it that the thunder will roll when he breaks the seal on the wallet. LOL. Grapples sure are nice for moving logs and can easily get spoiled by it.
It’s relaxing to watch a competent operator doing their thing. It’s the reflection of a man who gives a damn and the tens of thousands of hours he’s performed similar tasks. In my early years of open pit mining I was told by my mentor that I was a direct reflection of my instructor... Meaning Do it Right! Let’s just say, Kenny does it right. Oh, and Chris, you’re mighty efficient on the saw too😉 Bless’ns to ya both, Tedd
Mr. Carlson sure taught his boys a great work ethic. Wonder if Ken has a “ Free Beer Tomorrow “ sign in his garage. Free Beer, great see you then, show up next day, he points to the sign, “oh no, that’s tomorrow. Take care, fellas
Your brother is extremely happy with his process. But you have to admit his tractor causes him to spend more time preparing to work than actually doing the work. Thanks for the vid!
I've moved a few logs with forks and it's not easy. Kenny makes it look easy! That was working perfectly you could cut a pile in about the same time as it took him to make another pile. Good work fellas. GNI
Mornin! It takes more finesse with the tractor in the winter. The logs have snow and ice on them and really slide on the steel forks. I kinda use Ken's same method in my yard. It's either snow, ice or dirt to deal with. Great video as always. Spring is around the corner.
Oh Ken, you make it seem easy on that John Deere with Forks! I have a skidsteer with bucket forks and a grapple. I would have to use the grapple to somewhat try to keep up with you! Great operater makes a huge difference. Aince you have a big area, i like the way you have staging areas. Less for handling the wood by hand. Chris, i think you were cutting a pile faster than Ken was making the next one. You both were machines today! Another great Carlson Brother's Video!
Always good to see you and Ken working side by side. However, we need some Cookie, Woody and Grogu back in the Woodyard. Cuttin', splittin' and stackin'. You ought to be working on 22/23 inventory.
was just cutting for my small wood yard started splitting and stacking yesterday. won't be cutting any more till I get all the rounds split and stacked....welcome to my world LOL
Hi Chris and Kenny!!😀😀 Kenny does it the same way I do. Three stringers and a thin layer of logs on top. But I have the forwarder in my woodyard and am able to take 3 full cords at a time and lay them out perfectly in line with each other. A grapple would be nicer than the set of forks. But you use what you have. Take care my friends!!😀😀 Logger Al
Al I don't know about the grapple being nicer than forks. I have a grapple and after watching Ken, I'm thinking long forks might pick up more logs vs the grapple. It's forced me to rethink my whole life but that occurs daily.
@@motleyoutdoors3410 it just depends on the size tractor you are using as to how much you can lift on the forks versus how much a grapple will hold. Forks on a 60 horsepower range tractor will lift more on the forks than you can get in the grapple. Titan Equipment makes a set of forks with a grapple on it like the big ones that they use on pay loaders at the sawmills. They are the best of both worlds.
@@motleyoutdoors3410 I think those forks with the grapple are priced right and that's the way I'm going to go when I buy one. It will make a good 2 in 1 piece of equipment for moving everything from pallets to brush.
Definitely more then one way to skin a cat. A big rack, with the forks to fill it and a long bar to cut many at one time is about the only thing i can think of to speed things up. Less bending over LOL.
I've always got the log truck driver to stack the logs only 4ft high for safety and we just work our way into the pile cutting and splitting as we go but my splitter is lighter than Ken's and easier to move but hey every operation is different and another great video buddy
Kenny use same cutting method in summer ? When the ground isn't frozen and the wood wants to dig in the dirt when pushing the pile to the splitter. I was just curious, I never make crazy suggestions in the comments. Thanks Pat
Though it would be nice to have a grapple for the brush work, cleaning up tops and such. I really don't need it for the logs etc. Forks and the bucket do just fine for me as well. I'll probably end up making a grapple clamp for the bucket as that has teeth on it just to make it easier to clean up the brushy stuff. Nice work you two. I felled 6 oaks today and have them bucked up for lumber and tomorrow I'll buck the firewood thats in them
Kenny is a wizard with that little tractor no matter what attachment he has on the front. Having frozen snow covered ground like that make it a lot nicer when it comes to pushing the wood around....Slides easily and stays clean. How is your back after using that shorter bar? It looks like you're doing a lot more bending. Dave
Awesome work with the forks Ken. I’ve been considering forks myself since they’re more budget friendly and use for moving logs too. Please let me know how long your forks are. I’m considering 48” & 60” forks. Thanks, Kel
Good job guys. I personally like pallet forks, but forks with a grapple would be better yet. Is Kenny going to owe you time in your woodyard at the end of this? GNI
Ken is a master with the forks! WST has mad fork skills too! Maybe a fork off challenge in the future!! 🤣 Nice work fellas! Go enjoy some beverages.🍻🍻GNI

Yes he has the moves!
Ken and the JD were singing today. Great work with the forks 🚜❄️❄️🚜

Your brother is really hard on his tractor!!!!
He just uses it to get work done, that is why he has it, not to pretend to do work like most people.
It's a pleasure to watch Ken work the tractor !
It sure is!
Pallet forks make staging logs so easy but you made cutting look easy.

Ken has tractor skills moving logs. This works for him and Im going to try to put mine on stringers for cutting. Have a Safe Day
Yes, stringers are nice for cutting.
Everybody has their own system how they cut up their wood and everybody has a opinion whether it's right or wrong
You got that right!
If you left the wedge end of the splitter up just above level, would it stop the wood from vibrating in that direction?
Maybe but when splitting you need to keep moving.

why not move wood to be cut closer to the splitter ?less use of the tractor !!
Because it has to be unloaded off the trucks from the drive, so the wood gets moved to the stacking area after splitting.
